a dyno is a dynometer in full

it is just like an emmision test depending where you live and the style they do it

the car is strapped down with the driving wheels placed either on top of a large metal drum or it sits between to smaller drums also depending on the style of dyno

the car is held in a gear and reved at wot ( wide open throttle)

a computer is hooked up to the drum in the ground measuring the speed at which it turns and calculates the amount of horsepower and torque given as output by the driving wheels at specific rpms

this comes in very handy when doing any modifications as you an see on paper not a

butt dyno( your mind ) if there actuallly was any improvments at all

them most can compare what parts they added to a similar car and see if it is any good to there aftermarket part

all in all a very useful tool

best to do when the car is still stock to get what is called a baseline run to see what a regualr stok car does

cost is about 40 canadian here

but i know the dyno guys pretty well

another thing some dynos have is a air fuel ratio reading

where it sees where and when the car is runnng rich or lean especially good on a turbo car for fuel adjustments

hope this answers your question

the dealer wouldn't have one

unless they really are into performance

you would have to check local performance shops to find one close to you

call around tommorow and ask who is closest and recommended plus average price
