Ecu Reseting

i was searching around and found this sight that shows how to reset the ecu:

http://web.ace.net.au/soarer/ecu_reset.html

1st ?:  can this be done on the I6

2nd ?:  it says shift throught the gears.  what would you do if you have a manual?

can anyone go into detail on this subject.  thank you.

I think you can reset any ECU by pulling the negative battery cable for 10 minutes or so, unless it has a battery backup to keep the ECU memory intact.

do you shift through all the gears with a manual, including reverse?

I'm pretty sure the only reason it suggests that is to re-learn the fuel curves. It's going to take some time of driving before the ECU is completely back to normal, so your car may act kind of odd for a few days. Just reset the ECU, or pull the EFI fuse, then drive the car normally for a few days, or drive it how you want the car to learn.
