I'm looking at a 99 es 300 with 85000 miles 13500.00.Looks great inside and out. Anyone hear of sludge problems or anything else to look for on this year? I'll get carfax report and long test drive. Driving 04 es 330, looking for second car. Any help would be great. Thanks

Do make sure that you have complete oil change records on that 99, the years for the sludge problem were 97-01.

Thanks, I'll be extra careful when and if go back to look at this car, and any others I'll look at. Take care.

No problem. Another quick test you can do is to open up the oil cap and feel around for any sludge. Thats no guarantee it wont have sludge but if you can see any its a definate pass because that means its pretty extensive.

id take it, i payd US $12500 in NYC for my 99 es300 back in august and mine had 150k on it at that time (is it me or are cars over priced in NYC, i get the feeling everything is) , since it came from a lexus dealer [Lexus of Englewood, across the bridge NJ] and was a lease car they changed the oil every 3k miles so the sludge problem was avoided, im now changing the oil every 2.5k miles just to be on the safe side. These cars r good to go lotsa miles the only thing that craps out with the hi mileage is those dang sensors, my o2 sensor went recently and i dont think im gonna be replacing it, delaer wants like 600 bux, and i was warned about the cat converteres too. Other than that if u treat her well and dont beat up on her, you should be able to put atleast another 100k on her easy.
