McDee
My car has a delay when I want to get up and go. I hit the pedal and it seems like a second before the RPM's come up. Only 63,000 miles.
silvermate
thats normal.....delays for a sec then all hell breaks loose.
SW03ES
Yep, they all do that. It should be less noticable in ECT PWR mode.
99lsguy
Ditto the above.............. You probably notice it also shifts down to First as you slow to near stop at an intersection or such - then revs a little and goes to Second gear..........not the best IMHO but she'll run Smooth after that. It's Toyota's way for engine protection - no way for it to "LUG". Let's the tranny do the work..........

Jacob
One-second delay is not bad; I once got a delay of a few seconds. Also, it seems that you have to really depress the gas pedal to get the transmission to downshift, something that I didn’t have to do in my previous 2000 V-6 Camry. SW03ES
Your 2000 Camry did not have an electronic throttle.
Jacob
Your 2000 Camry did not have an electronic throttle. ← What’s the difference? And shouldn't an electronic “gizmo” be better than a non electronic one? Jacob
SW03ES
Run a search on here for "electronic throttle" or "drive by wire". Many cars with these e-throttles have this sort of hesitation on gasoline powered engines. Not sure why.
