npcomplete Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Hi members, Can anyone help me out in replacing a starter for '95 LS400? :cries: I would be much appreciated if someone provide me with step by step instructions for replacing starter. (Reason for replacing starter: Everytime I try to start the engine, it makes "tick" noises... like 15-20 times... and gets started...) Any suggestions/advices would be thankful. my email address: hukim0@yahoo.com Thank you again.
90LS400Lexus Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 :o Sorry to hear about your problem. I am not sure about the instructions to change it, but hopefully it is not as difficult as it is on the 90-94 models. I have heard it is a very difficult and costly replacement. It cost my uncle either $1000-$1200 to have the starter changed on my aunts 90' LS400. Maybe it is a solenoid?
RFeldes Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 mine did that and it was a loose battery connector
moune Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Be prepared to pay alot of money to get it done. It's not a simple task at all, from what I've been told you will have to remove your whole intake mandifold and ect. Sorry to hear about it, I just had it done last year.
npcomplete Posted October 1, 2004 Author Posted October 1, 2004 To moune, You said you had it done last year, if then, could you tell me what mileage do your car has and what year is your car? Thanks. To RFeldes, I've recently changed my batter and even checked its volts but, it seemed nothing wrong with the battery. (gave me 12.6Volts). Any thoughs? Thanks. To 90LS400Lexus, :cries: That's pretty expensive... Hmm... that sound the worst case... Members, If I happen to DIY, Can anyone at least tell me what other parts (like what exact gaskets... etc) do I need to ORDER (other than starter)? Also, do I need some kind of adhesive as well? Thanks again.
npcomplete Posted October 6, 2004 Author Posted October 6, 2004 Members, Anybody have replaced their starter of their own?? If then, please help me out with above mentioned questions. Thank you in advance. :P
99lsguy Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 Members,Anybody have replaced their starter of their own?? If then, please help me out with above mentioned questions. Thank you in advance. :P ← I haven't changed the starter. My buddies 97 coach edition LS with 120K just had the starter replaced - $800. Heres my 99LS manual description:
99lsguy Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 Ok........ This new software update won't allow me to attach.... :chairshot: remove air cleaner and MAF unit remove throttle body You gotta take the intake manifold off ; replace those gaskets. remove the water bypass "o ring" and the bypass pipe. Then you get to the starter.... All the above has lots of "individual steps" - probably 8 hours plus for dIY..
90LS400Lexus Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 It really all depends upon where you live and what shop repairs it I guess. Hopefully, you can get it done cheaper. . (gave me 12.6Volts). Any thoughs? Thanks. To 90LS400Lexus, :cries: That's pretty expensive... Hmm... that sound the worst case...
moune Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 I have a 90 LS 400, when I had the starter done I had about 200,000 miles on it.
