LEXDOGG Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 My shifter handle is worn out. The sun killed it thanks to arizona heat. The leather is thrashed on it. Does anyone know how to remove it? Also, does anyone know where to get one? My car is a 91 thx, lexx
silvermate Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 i am in the same boat as you are........i've been looking for an aftermarket auto shifter knob (wood, or wood leather) for about 2 years with no luck the problem for the 1st gen. is the overdrive button..... therefor no other gens. are compatible to swap out.....nor could i find an aftermarket knob that was...... there are aftermarket companies that will redo your oe shift knob any way you want, ie......exotic wooddash co., and american stiches.....i called for quotes and they are very expensive so i passed... to take the knob off all you have to do is pop off the plastic cover caps on the front of the shifter (mabe on the side as well, i can't remember) and unscrew the screws lift up on the knob and disconnect the od button....... good luck.........if you find anything let me know.
92Lex Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 Cant you just relocate the O/D button somwhere else and install a shift knob without the O/D button on it?
