96 Es300 + 18inch Rims, Good Or Bad?

I just recently bought a 96 Coach edition and wanted to upgrade the wheels on it. I was thinking about putting 18's on it. It has the Enkei 15's on it now which is standard for coach edition. Many people told me not to upgrade as my speedo, odometer and ride will be greatly affected. What problems will i encounter if i go through with it? or should i just leave it?
