BlurrySC300 Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 As the title says, I have a SC300 (automatic) and am interested in doing the 2JZ-GTE swap. The only thing is, I want to do it in increments. The first thing that I want to do is swap out the tranny for the 6-speed Getrag Supra tranny. Anyone had any experience in swapping an auto tranny for the Supra TT manual tranny? I'm interested in costs mainly...not including labor...I have a few friends at Lexus of Austin (where I work) that are willing to help me do it for very little cost. Thanks, --John
bean_8044 Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 Average prices for the 6 speed GETRAG are usually around $1500-$2k. If you get the box then you should get the 6 speed diff also so the ratios dont change, and you get the Torsen also
soarer479 Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 well going to the 6-speed your going to have a nice little bit of custom work id recommend talking it over with a local tuner shop ask them about every thing your going to need then simply do it yourself good luck hope every thing works out
JPI Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 John, This is a doable swap but it's costly. Why not stick with the auto tranny and built it to handle the power. JPI
jzz30 Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 i think the hardest part may be getting all of the parts at a good price. but if price is no objective then just order all of the parts. here in japan the soarer 5speed conversion runs just under 4k parts included. if you can find a junked 5 speed sc and rip all of the parts off like pedals, clutch master, hard line flywheel shifter boot etc.. then its a matter of drilling 2 holes and dropping the trans. oh your also going to have to have the drive shaft lengthened or made. bean: didnt you do this? except with the 5 speed?
BlurrySC300 Posted August 11, 2004 Author Posted August 11, 2004 John, This is a doable swap but it's costly. Why not stick with the auto tranny and built it to handle the power. JPI I'm not a big fan of the whole auto transmission. Leaves too much up to the car's ECU..I would rather being doing the extra work just so I can control when to downshift and yada yada yada

Don't call me and say" I need everything"!!!!! AS for you automatic owners: You should not be doing a 6 speed swap on your cars!!! This is way toooooooo costly for you, not to mention the time involved. MY advise to you is: get a front clip of a Aristo or supra tt 6psd. IT WILL BE CHEAPER IN THE LONG RUN. OR get a Torque Converter, the will nock out a 50%-80% of second in 1/4 mile... SORRY IF I DAMAGE ANY OF YOU DREAMS WITH THE 6 spd __________________
jzz30 Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 its not that big of a deal. it a very popular thing in japan right now they even sell full conversion kits on yahoo auctions. it runs a bit over a grand
StickyGreenz Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 anyone know of a shop that can do the engine swap near los angeles California???
bean_8044 Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 damn DUNO, dont tell me you went through the EPC and got all of that by hand. Good list regardless. Ive done the R154 swap in my soarer and im pretty pleased with it. Cost around $800 for the parts, not including all of the things i had to buy to get it working right. I bought the parts from someone that was pretty shady and i didnt get a good trans package. Whatever you do, dont buy a R154 from Japan. Its the same exact one as in the US and you can get a supra box, just change the speed sensor. Its a completely different car now with the manual and lightweight flywheel. Hopefully by next month ill get those gears in and think of a way to fit the R34 intercooler i got.
