Es 300 -persisting Clutch Problems

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I bought a 1992 ES300 5 speed Manual about a year ago, unfortunately, in a hurry. The car cannot pass smog check (California) and the clutch was weared out. I have been trying to fix it at Lexus dealers and outside mechanics. Here are some of the problems.

1. The car/clutch chatters and shakes when shifting among lower gears, from stop to gear 1, gear 1 to gear 2, and very often, from gear 2 to gear 3.

I replaced the clutch at a out-of-town Lexus dealer due to their fee quotes. I picked up the car at end of the day and started to drive home, but I found the clutch problems persisting before I got home.

I called Lexus customer service for advice. The customer service rep was very helpful(that's the only thing Lexus impressed me so far) and arranged a check-up with a dealer in town. Since the warranty on first replacement was still in effect, the clutch was replaced again without any charge to me.

What happened next is all you know, but I feel too embarassed to go back to the same dealer in town and complain about the problems.

I was told that 1992 ES300 with 5 speed manual transmission is a "rare" one, even to the mechanics at Lexus dealership.

2. Another problem is steering wheel shaking. Shortly after it starts and stop still at traffic lights, the steering wheel starts to shake and it seems coming from the engine or some rotary motor, since the whole car is shaking as well. Steering wheel shaking dissapeared once the car started to move.

Does anyone have any clues about the problems?

Thanks!

you need to isolate the shake it could be anything from the engine trying to stall to a mount, you can see the car ,take a look

something is worn in the tranny ,probably a gear and slider causing it to jiggle around.

you need to get it rebuilt
