Diy Shop Essentials

I have learned so much from this forum I am going to ask a simple question (simple from those that have these items, again too many choices for the one trying to purchase). I am looking for inexpensive, yet quality jack stands and advice on a floor jack. I am looking to get what I need to do routine maintenance but also be prepared for things down the road. I did all of the repairs I was able to do in my garage on an 89 Toyota Camry LE but was able to access everything from the top, or being very creative with my front curb :o to gain more clearance underneath. Don't want to do that with the GS400.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

go to Sears. Usually they have a floor jack on sale from time to time that comes with a set of decent quality jack stands. Their prices are usually very good and they have a no questions asked warranty on Craftsman stuff.

If you want, I can give you the model numbers of the trio that I have.

Hey Steviej;

Thanks. I was at Sears yesterday looking the items over. I would love the name (ID #) of the set you got. I don't know what tolerances (weigth limits) I need so that would be helpful. Also, Do I really need a torque wrench for the lug nuts on the lexus. I seem to recall a thread in which someone mentioned the rotors were warped because of improper tightening of the lug nuts. The whench is pricey but it certainly will be less expensive than a set of rotors.

Thanks for the help. Go Sox.

I have three torque wrenches. I say yes. It will be of use for more than just the lug nuts.

I will list them as soon as i can get them. I am at work at the moment.

Sox......same old story. But the trade that is in talks is very interesting.

Randy Johnson for Lowe, Youkliss and Nomar. hhhhmmmmm. makes you think.

Ok, I'm back.

The hydrolic floor jack is the Companion Series, 3 ton, #950115

the 2 jack stands that came with it are also Companion Series, 3 ton, #950118

All from Sears. Very nice stuff.

hope that helps.
