greggebhardt
On my 2004 LX470 there is a auto setting for your wipers. This causes the wipers to only run when it rains and adjusts the wipers according to how much rain is hitting the windshield. Could one of the experts here tell me what type of sensor makes this work. How does the windshield wipers know to turn on and what regulates their speed in "auto". jbarhorst2
I believe they use LEDs that shine onto the windshield. The amount of light refracted is translated to water on the windshield and makes the wipers cycle. On most cars the sensor is near the rear view mirror mount.
