e34v8driver Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 Hi: Friend has a set of 19" rims recently installed on her 92 SC400. The rims were bought used from a private party. Now she has a shimmy that occurs at 55-60mph, not below that and not above. The shimmy is felt in the steering wheel at that speed. We're going to do a high speed wheel balance. Any other clues. I know that BMW's sometime have this problem and it can be fixed with hubcentric rings. Does the SC400 use this on large sized rims?? Thanks, Charles
bezee Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 i have the same problem too i have 18"s ...im looking for a solution as well.
dcfish Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 It could be that the wheels themselves are out of round , that is without the tires on , balancing may help with the tires on but the problem will still exist if it is the wheels , Only a thought
bean_8044 Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 I have 18 as well and the high speed balance is very necessary. My wheels were perfect until i installed a new tire and my guess is they messed up the balance or didnt rebalance it afterwards
