Maintenance & Timing Belt Issue

Recommended Posts

I just bought the 02 ES 300 4 days ago, but it got the very high milrage "92,000", and I was going to change all the fluids, spark plugs, tune up and replace the timing belt, But I went to lexus dealer they going to change me $1,200 for only replace the tming belt, that was really scared. :o

After that I went to Toyota dealer to check out the price since the engine is same as camry v6, first they give me a pretty decent "toyota camry price", but after the Rep went check with someone, He came back told me because the company policy they cann't give to me the "camry price", I have to pay about $850 more just because the "Lexus". that was relly *BLEEP* me off.

Then I dicide go shop around the individual auto shops, that was the nightmare start, almost all the auto shops just tried to ripp me off, I'm very depress right now. I have no ideal what I going to do. :cries:

I live in Las Vegas, Nevada, Can some one hook me up! Please tell me what to do or any suggestions!

Are there any owner live in las Vegas can recommend a good Toyota or Lexus specialist to me Please!

Thank you!

Andrew

$1,200 for only the timing belt????? My Lexus dealer is $375 for belt only change. I can get the complete 90,000 mile-service with belt for $900.

thiink about it, the blet is like $40 retail. Then add on 4 hours for the guy to change it. So at 85 per hour that is $340 + 40 part=$380. You can check the water pump and that is xx fee. Or if you need one add another $300.

I also asked two other leaxus dealer and the price was as low as $250 or as high as $495.

Also get the belt tensioner replaced. Ypu, The ES are due at 90K miles. I would try to get in very soon. It will not hurt anything to go over a little but do not wait till 100K and say oh ya...A lot of it is how you drive.

Thanks Mike for you post, I really surprised the price you list on, I think the Las Vegas only have 1 Lexus Dealer - Fletcher Jones Lexus, That's why they can make the price so high, because no another Lexus Dealer around.

vega-winner, if it is $1200 for just the timing belt, find out what they charge for the complete 90k mile service. I am very curious.

It may be cheaper for you to take the drive to TX and see JPI.

I have a '98 with 118000 plus miles and do mostly hi speed hiway driving. I'm not sure I fit into the timing belt change guidelines.

Comments please.

wow budy you should pay more attention on your car! according to my knowledge Lexus suggest change the timing belt at 60,000 miles, but lots of Lexus experts from this fourm they said can wait until around 90,000 miles to replace it. In your case probably pretty dangerous, you better go change timing belt as soon as you can to be avoid serious damage!

Can't you just find an independent mechanic in your area to do the timing belt? or example, I got a job quoted through Toyota at $1200CAN, but when I took it to an independent mechanic, it only cost $300CAN. That is a pretty big difference!

Good luck,

Bryan

First of all, your dealing with a bunch of idiots overthere! It *BLEEP*es me off just hearing about it! It's all the same parts as the Camry, and I had mine done from my Toyota mechanic because he is Lexus/Toyota cerfied- not that it matters, and it cost me the same as all my other Toyota vehicles- $189 plus tax ($220 out the door)! You can take your car to any Toyota shop, and get the same damn price as for the Camry. Infact, you can have them talk to my service advisors Manager, and he will explain it to them if you'd like? 801-363-0595 @ Mark Miller Toyota. Oh, if they decide to charge more, make sure they tell you what it includes, as some company's like Honda will also do the drive belts and water pump at the same time- which only costs about $450. Good luck bro! And one more thing, your motor is a "non-interferance" motor, so if you break the Timing belt- it won't hurt anything- unlike Nissan, Honda etc. But the suggested mileage for a ES 300 V6 is at 80k miles ( I bought mine at 110k miles and changed it then).
