Bryan LX470 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 We own a 2007 Lexus LX470 with 95k miles. We've owned it for around 6 months. The Check Engine, VSC and VSC Lights have all come on and then go off a few days later. This has happened 3 times in 6 months. They all turn on, but then all go off on their own. I have read online where a loose gas cap is sometimes the culprit. We try and make it tight when we refuel, but I have noticed occassionly when I re-check the tightness later, that it has become a little loose. I have not had the codes read yet. I suspect I should do that first to verify that if the gas cap is the problem or not. The other idea I had was to replace the gas cap with a new one. Any additional thoughts?
eugene.s Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 The best is to buy some cheap OBD II tool (e.g. Fotga MINI VCI) and check the codes and the pressurisation in the fuel system at different RPM (these codes, in particular, light up with a loose fuel cap as the car thinks there's a leak in the fuel system). I am not sure anyone can really feel if the cap is loose (once closed with a "click" you can only open it - but probably cannot test if it was tight before), so replacing a cap might be a good idea, indeed. 1
jacktherealtor Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Mine is doing this now. Is it really simply a gascap issue? I actually did try to twist the cap tighter after I had it happen. My son used the truck for a couple weeks and just returned it (great kid, washed and fully gassed up) and possibly didn't secure the cap all the way. I had a myriad of troubles/lights and issues with my Toyota Sequoia and dash lights. Turned out my mechanic lost my gascap when he was taking WAY too long to do some repairs and bought a cheap !Removed! gascap from Napa (nice enough to bill me for it actually). The lights began and NO it couldn't be the NEW gas cap, he said. I ordered a factory on from Amazon, lo and behold, NO lights!
jakmr26 Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 had this same issue. it was actually my alternater. The voltage regulater was over charging battery. It was causing all my check lights to go on. it was charging my battery at over 17. After changed alternator everything good.

But I already replaced the gas cap. like 2,000 miles ago. It was actually fine for almost 1,000 miles but now these three lights have started up again; they come on and stay on for a few hundred miles. Then I go to start it and they're off. I drive it a couple hundred miles and suddenly, they're on again. And the cycle repeats... Thanks

Thanks I have a 2001 LX470 - Purchased new in 2000 - it now has 270K and to keep it simple, whenever that happens I either check: Gas cap (replace it if necessary), inflate tires to at least 44 psi., or have your mechanic check the (4) wheel speed sensors. One of them might be faulty or dirty. Replace or simply clean it. Hope that helps - they are great trucks and worth keeping...

That info was incorrect. The correct psi is actually 29-32 psi max. Fast forward - First, I Rebalanced my tires because sometimes the little tire weights on them fall off and slightly throw the tires off balance! You would notice that at higher speeds. Then I got a wheel alignment! Lastly, My mechanic changed one of my wheel speed sensors then he reset my computer and the lights haven't come back on. Its been about maybe 4 months or more now. So far so good. Hope that helps..
