  1. Not sure if this only applies to NAV vehicles or not. But if you press & hold (2-3 seconds) the AUTO button controlling the fresh/recirc, it goes to a screen so you can adjust the smog sensitivity.

I notice this is very accurate. When I'm behind a car at a light, and the car ahead accelerates from a stop, the auto mode switches from fresh to recirc for a few seconds. Hard to believe that it is that accurate.

  2. I love this web site. Our '04 RX 330, now at 80k miles, is ready for its second set of tires. At 40k I stayed with the original Michelin tires. I've seen some good reviews of the Goodyear Fortera Silent Armor tires.

Anyone have any experience with them? Or do you have any experience with any other tires that provide a "QUIET" ride.

I'm looking for silence, not roadability.

    Thanks

  3. Hello,

This is winter time here where I stay.

I have an ES 350 which I bought end 07 (so it is just around 1+ yrs). I did not drive it for around 10 days. Today, when I tried to unlock/lock the car with my remote key, it did not work. The car was open, so i got in, and tried to start. No lights, no indication nothing. Dead. The brake also feels tight. I tried with my spare remote key, same thing. I tried the 'contact method' in the manual (L logo to ignition etc) no response.

Does this mean my battery is discharged ? Is there no light or indication showing it is discharged ?

Also, if I jump start it, will I have to replace my battery or is it that once it is "charged" it is fine again ?

    thanks!!!!!!!

I would get it jump started and then take it to a Lexus Dealer or auto shop that sells batteries. They can hook up the battery to a machine that will tell you if the battery is still good and has any life left in it. Not sure if the battery could be replaced under warranty.

Using the remote to start the car (by placing it at the start/off push button) is used if the battery in the remote is dead. I have a couple of new remote batteries on hand, so when the batteries do go dead, I can replace them right away. I got the remote batteries at Radio Shack.

    Good luck.

  4. Is there someplace on the internet that I can see what kind of a connecting cable it takes to link my iPod to my ES350 audio system? Barring that, I would just like to know what the connector plug name, type, and size is. Thanks.

    Try this website:

    http://www.negsm.com/3stmatomahej.html

The output audio is 3.5mm located in the console. Connect one end of the cable to the headphone jack on the ipod and the other end to the output audio 3.5mm in the console.

IF you have the car adapter you can plug it in the cigarette lighter jack inside the console too.

You will need to switch the audio option from CD or radio to "aux".

Hope this isn't a dumb question....I have an iPhone but it is a pain in the butt to put it in the console & connect it (for music) when I make several short trips. After each stop, I have to remove the phone and take it with me. So, I ordered an iPod Nano. Will I be able to use the same cable I now use for the iPhone, to charge the iPod and the other cable to play the music?

I'm disappointed with the FM reception in the ES, so I'm resorting to my own music. I miss XM that I had in my old vehicle (TL), but I hear XM/Sirus is going belly up (in about a year), so I don't want to invest in an XM radio.

  5. Not that this matters, as the damage has been done. But, I bet it happened when the passenger was manually retracting the seatbelt (quickly) and went a little to wide and the tongue of the male end of the belt was forced into the leather. I bet it happened before the passenger got out of the car or as they were getting out. I tried to figure out how closing the door on the seatbelt could cause this damage and had no luck.

  6. My wife's 2004 RX330 AWD is pushing 87,000 miles. I change the T-IV in it every 30,000 miles and yes, the owners manual for that model year proclaims that the factory fill in this vehicle is "lifetime". I'll stay with fresh T-IV every 30,000 miles for as long as we keep the vehicle, probably 140,000 to 150,000 miles barring no accidents or other catastrophic failures. Would Amsoil be a better option in this transmission? Maybe, but I won't run that risk and lose my rights to negotiate if her transmission fails as it did in her previous 2000 RX300 AWD at 48,000 miles. That unfortunate event caused me to stay with T-IV as the best wallet protection possible....

Wow, that is weird. My '04 RX owners manual (supplement maintenance schedule) says to change the ATF every 60k miles. I wonder if they publish different versions of the manual for different parts of the U.S. I am in Calif. Or maybe because we purchased in 4/03, they modified the manual for your vehicle.

  7. :( My wife left the dome light on in the car overnight, as i was leaving for work the next day i noticed it, shut it off. started her car, and of course the battery light was on. i let it run for about twenty minutes and shut it off and then left for work. that evening when i got home she said her car wouldnt start, i jumped it let it run for about twenty or thirty minutes and drove it around the neighborhood. parked it and tried to restart it, wouldnt restart. changed the battery in it, and still wont start. battery light check engine light, vsc light, tire presure light, and airbag light is on. is there a reset i should do after changing the battery or what. any suggestions please.

I just had our '04 RX serviced (80k) and had the battery replaced (it failed the test). Cost $182. It was almost 6 years old.

Anyway, I recall reading another thread that there is definitely something that needs to be reset and the instructions are in the manual. I know the sunroof won't operate properly until it is reset.

  8. I have an '09 ES350 with 1000 miles. I noticed it today for the 1st time. The vehicle was fully warmed up.....been driving for at least 40 minutes. I find it hard to reproduce though.....seems like you have to have the throttle about 1/2 way down. I thought I noticed it between 2nd and 3rd.....but it may have been 3rd to 4th. I'll have to drive much more in order to pinpoint and reproduce the problem.

  9. Its called the 'clunk-in-the-trunk'. It appears to be the gas level measuring mechanism. It occurs when the tank is full but not at 3/4 or below. Do a search for more on this topic.

    Don

    Thanks Don,

You are exactly right. I had to drive a while to get it to 3/4 tank, but once there the "clunk in the trunk" went away.

I had the 1k service today, and the service writer knew nothing about this.

  10. I traded in my '05 Acura TL for an '09 ES350. The TL was just back breaking. Way too hard of a ride. And the front end was so low, almost every driveway I entered caused the front end to scrape (I know one day it would fall off).

The ES has a living room drivers seat. I notice a little wind noise from the left side mirror, but this car is silent compared to the TL.

If you want luxury, go for the ES.

I drove my wife's 2004 RX330 the other day and I could not believe how noisy it was. I didn't say anything (LOL).

  11. We bought a new '09 ES350 about 2 weeks ago. When I accelerate (moderately) from a stop, I hear a thumping noise coming from the trunk/rear end. It's more noticeable when starting from a stop uphill and barely noticeable when starting and going downhill. It's as if there is something loose in the trunk and it only lasts a second and is fairly muted.

I checked the trunk....it's completely emply. All the equipment under the trunk cover seems secure.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Pete
