  1. I am wondering why the manual states to set the dial to "O" when the engine is not running.

With the ventilated seats on, you can hear the fan blowing and the fan turns off when you turn the engine off; even if you leave the dial on high.

So, how does the battery get discharged by leaving this in the on position?

I'm almost afraid to use it now, because I may forget to turn it off when I park.

    This is from the manual:

    3-6. Other interior features

    NOTICE

    To prevent battery discharge

Set the dial to 0 when the engine is not running.

  2. I've had this knocking noise from the glove box for several weeks. I figured there was something in the glove box moving around when I would make turns. I finally got around to checking it out and emptied the glove box. Took a test drive and the noise was still there. I can't figure it out.

Sounds like a bolt or nut hitting against something when I make a moderate turn and it doesn't matter which way I turn. Although, if I take two right turns it only makes the noise on the first turn. Then if I take a hard left the bang happens again. So, it's like there is a nut on a rod that slides back and forth from left to right to left.

I never noticed it when I got the car in Dec '08.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks....

  3. Good morning, my name is Samuel. I am in Boston and looking to buy my first Lexus next month.

The Lexus that I am interested in a new 2009 Lexus ES350 with the Ultra-Luxury pckg. I've been on many websites and to a few dealers and I still really don't have a good idea on what I'm going to be paying. Hopefully there are some meticulus minds here who can give me a hand. Right now I own a 2007 Toyota Camry XLE V6. It's a great car, but I usually don't keep a car that has more than 20,000 miles on it, and it has 17k miles right now. My last three cars have been Camrys' and Avalons' and I am ready to move on.

I'd like to thank everyone in advance for your responses and look forward to reading them.

For our '09 ES 350 with premium plus, and a few other options, we paid almost $5k below Sticker Price, which was about $750 over invoice.

  4. I had a similar problem with our '04 RX. When I took it to the dealer I described it as a gurgeling noise. It was coming from the footwell area. Initially (under warranty) the dealer couldn't reproduce the noise. Later (our of warranty) they heard the noise and said it was some sort of dirverter door related to the auto climate control. Since it was reported under warranty, they fixed it at not charge.

  5. The best tire pressure monitoring system on the planet has never changed. It consists of getting a decent tire pressure gauge (digital is great but there's nothing wrong with the old manual style) and committing to checking your tire pressures, COLD, once a week. Once every two weeks is better than monthly. And monthly is better than never.

Don't trust inconsistent and often faulty electronic tire pressure monitoring systems to manage your tires for you. Do it yourself, the right way, and you'll be safer with longer-lasting tires as well....

Twice, my wife has picked up nails in a tire that caused a slow leak (down to 25 psi). Both times the TPMS alerted her to something was wrong. I was able to drive the vehicle to a tire shop both times and get the tires patched before needing to slap on the spare.

    I love TPMS.

  6. I would be more concerned with the date they were made, rather than where the tires were made. According to Consumer Reports:

Every tire has a Department of Transportation (DOT) number following the letters on the sidewall. The last four digits determine the week and year the tire was made; for example, the digits 2204 would signify that the tire was made during the 22nd week of 2004. Don't buy tires more than a couple of years old. They can degrade with age.

I'm ready for my 2nd set of tires on our '04 RX at 80k miles, and I'm still debating whether to get the OEM. I'm more concerned with a soft, quiet ride.

  7. Design mistake... The turning radius was greatly improved once the 2nd Gen RX came out (Rx330-RX350)

Imagine those 4-6 inches make a big difference huh? hehe.

Also add to the list of imperfections the mischievous glove box rattle.

The RX330 has a 4' tighter turning radius than the RX300. (37.4' vs 41.3') ...4 ft is a little tighter turning radius than 4-6 inches. The ES350 knocks another 7" off that 37.4 ft turning radius of the RX 330, even though it is a longer vehicle.

And our RX330 had what I thought was a glove box rattle, but the dealer fixed it by inserting a rubber molding between the dash and the windshield (nothing visible). Not too expensive to fix, from what I remember. But I could have sworn it came from the glove box but it was the dash rubbing against the windshield. Too bad I didn't catch it while we were still under warranty.

  8. Hey everybody, just wanted to get the traffic moving a little bit in the detailing forum.

I wanted to start this thread up and give everyone a place to share those little tricks of the trade they've picked up over the years. Please, post away!

New '09 ES350 purchased 12/17/08...and I started noticing dust on the dash, around the knobs, plastic, etc. Ddin't find an answer here (although I got some of the best detailing tips ever). So, I went to a few auto parts stores and looked at some 2 dollar detailing brushes. Not wanting to use a $2 brush on my baby, I went to Longs (drugstore) and bought a $15 makeup brush (YES, very embarassing) that is so soft, it does the job perfect. Along with the tips to get the Sonus products, I'm a happy camper with a detailed car.

  9. Hi,

I have a 2004 Rx 330 and need to get my battery replaced, but I have never done it before.

First, What kind of battery should I get and where?

Second, how does one begin to replace a battery? Any help or a short guide would be appreciated.

Also, check the owners manual for things that need to be reset. For one, I know the sunroof won't close properly after disconnecting the battery.

  10. I have a 08 ES 350 with 4900 miles on it. I recently took it to the dealership for its 5000 service. Prior to this I was averaging 24 mpg in the city. After the service I'm only getting 22 mpg. Should this happening? What can I do to increase this? Thanks.

P.S. I did change to synthetic oil.

I get 24.4 mpg COMBINED (highway & city), according to the trip computer and I have a heavy foot. I've reset it on a 40 mile freeway trip and got 30 mpg.
