  1. Turned in my '09 ES for the recall campaign and 15K service. Lexus Monterey Peninsula provided me with a '10 ES 350 (blk/blk). I didn't care for the colors nor some of the improvements. Maybe I'm prejudiced, but I really like the '09 better. Both drove about the same. I did like the fact Lexus no longer puts in a cassette player in the '10's. I still can't figure out why they put them in the '09's. I mean, who still uses a cassette player?

  2. Is anyone familar with the Lexus Advisory Board? I received an email invitation and responded to one survey and then another. They are time consuming and I wonder what is in it for me (other than giving my input on numerous subjects). If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it.

  3. Once you do find your replacement part, it finniky on how to get it back on. I had trouble with ours. Just had to play with it. As fo finding one a trip quick to the dealer might give you some options if the sales guys ae busy. Play Commando, and see what happens......

  4. We have had our 2004 RX since April 2003. We noticed the noise not long afterwards. We reported it to the dealer and they couldn't reproduce the noise. A few years later they said there was a fix and repaired it under warranty. They pull the entire dash out a little bit and place a rubber molding between the windshield and the dash and that resolved the problem. Your 2004 RX is out of warranty and did you buy the vehicle "AS IS". In California the dealers must place a sticker on the used cars they sell that state "as is" or a 30 day warranty (but that warranty may not cover this issue).

  5. I heard the same noise a little after I got my 09. I'm not sure what is was, but I have not heard it in a while. It sounded like a rock hit the underside of the car. Has anyone else heard this noise? Any ideas??.....

Yes, I have heard it twice in my '09 ES. But, I just assumed I ran over something (a rock or road debris), but I am always very aware of what is in front of me, so I was surprised when I heard the LOUD knock from the undercarriage (which side I don't know) and I was certain I didn't run over anything. So, I thought this was isolated to me & my vehicle; but if there is something in common here among ES vehicles it would be nice to figure it out.

  6. What is the best way to deal with dust collecting on the dashboard, console, gear stick area, cup holder area, etc.? How do detailers do it?

I use Sonus Cockpit Detailer (purchased on-line) for the dash. It has a matt finish so the dash/vinyl areas do not get shinny or slippery. The Sonus also repesl dust. Make sure to always use a damp (with Sonus) micro fiber towel on the dash so you don't scratch it. I also use Sonus Total Eclipse, it has a SPF of 40 to protect the dash.

For the gauges, wood, and NAV I use a long handled woman's make-up brush...it is so soft and sweeps away the dust from the nooks & crannies. Also on the NAV I use a Lens Wipe...cleaning it very gently.

There is a detailing section on this site (somewhere) and that is where I got all my info.

    !Removed! luck

  7. Hello everyone! I have a question regarding the AFS movement on the driver side headlight. I can notice the passenger side headlight move when i turn right but when turning left I don't notice any movement of the headlight whatsoever?!? :( Has anyone else noticed this on their 07 es350? Kindly advise.

I don't have AFS on my ES, but I bet the left light doesn't turn (much) when turning left so you aren't blinding oncoming vehicles. And I bet the right light does move to the left and it may overlap the left light, so you don't notice it that much.

  8. Go to Menu, then Setup, make sure your time zone is correct, then turn off daylight savings time. Remember to turn it back on 3/14/10.

So, I think your issue is that you have DST turned "ON".

Yes, turning DST off appears to have fixed the issue.

But we *ARE* in Daylight Saving Time now (http://www.infoplease.com/spot/daylight1.html) so it should be "ON".

No, we are in "Standard Time" now. Read the first sentence of the Web Page you referenced. Daylight Savings time begins March 14th.

  9. The clock on my dashboard shows the correct local time (Eastern Time). I have checked Settings-->Clock, and it shows Eastern Time with Daylight Savings On. I assume that nav connects to some remote time server to update the time based on my chosen time zone. But when I set my destination to somewhere 15 minutes away from my current location, the estimate time of arrival shown on the screen is 1 hour 15 minutes! So if the current time is 4:00 pm and the destination is 15 minutes away, the estimated time of arrival is 5:15 pm! Where do I correct the nav's system time?

There is another time setting somewhere in the Nav settings...I don't recall how I did it, but I had the same problem.

Another easy fix is to tap the arrival time on the screen, and it converts to hours/minutes remaining to your destination.

  10. My friend just had her '09 serviced (5k miles) and said they shortened the accelerator pedal, removed some of the padding beneath the carpet and replaced it with a thinner type, also replaced the floor mats, and did a software upgrade. The software upgrade disables the accelerator once the brakes are applied (so you can't brake and accelerate at the same time), whether your foot is on the accelerator or not. This should preven unintended acceleration.

  11. What was the recall notice 3 months ago...the floor mats I assume? They didn't do anything about it yet?

And you won't get a recall notice about the accelerator pedal...it does not effect your car.

The PDF file didn't copy too well:

    Dear Lexus Owner:

This notice is being sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Lexus has decided that a defect which relates to molor vehicle safety exists in certain 2007 through certain 2010 model

year ES vehicles. The defect is the potential for an unsecured or incompatible driver's floor mat to intedere with the

accelerator pedal and cause it to get stuck in the wide open position. Lexus has determined that this defect does nol exist in

vehicles in which the driver side floor mat is compatible with the vehicle and properly secured.

Lexus is currently developing a campaign remedy and will notify you when it is ready. In the meantime, we are providing

important information regarding the issue and steps you may take in the interim.

    Ulhalislbe risk?

A stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop the vehicle, which could

cause a crash, serious injury or death.

    !_l/Jratw_dl_texusde:

We will notify you again as soon as a campaign remedy is available for your vehicle.

    What should you do?

We request that you take out any removable driver's floor mat and NOT replace it with any other floor mat until the

campaign remedy is ready and implemented on your vehicle.

In the evenl you choose not to take out your removable floor mat, Lexus strongly recommends that you ensure

that the correct floor mat is being used, that it is properly installed and secured, that it is not flipped over with the

bottom-side up, and that one floor mat is not stacked over another. Information on proper floor mat installation for your

vehicle is enclosed with this notification. Please visit http://www.lexus.com/floormats for information on other models

  12. taking '99 RX300 in for a 120k mile service. anything I should expect that would be outside the cost of the service (like tranny issues)? I have been following the mainantence schedule....

I just did the 90k on our '04 RX (big bucks). It sounds like Lexus adjusts the maintenance schedule as they continue to learn what is needed, what wears out and what doesn't. On our '04, spark plugs are changed at 120k (or maybe 130K....don't remember).

They didn't recommend changing the water pump, even though they replaced the timing belt. They said the water pumps lasts much longer.

Also, they no longer adjust the valves at major servicing like they used to. They said that only 5% of cars needed any kind of adjustment, so they no longer recommend it.

If you are going to keep the vehicle for some time, I would do whatever Lexus recommends (bring a fat wallet).

  13. I have recently purchased a 2004 RX330 that I absolutely love! This is my second RX as my wife has a 2001 RX300. I noticed a bit of a ticking noise while idling Maybe it is a lifter, maybe not. Any thoughts on how I can redolve this small annoyance?

We have had our '04 RX since Apr '03, and have had the ticking noise since then. I reported it a couple times under warranty and was told it is normal and it was not lifters or anything else that was a problem. My wife drives it most of the time, but I think the ticking noise diminishes as the engine gets fully warmed.

    I wouldn't worry about it.

It is an excellent vehicle and very well built with high quality materials.

  14. No Problem! Anytime!

So I'm wondering what a reputable online parts store would be, to order the air mix servo. I'm having the same problem, and I called Lexus here in San Antonio, TX and they want $200 + tax for the part.

    Thanks,

    Daryl

I just had our 90k service performed. I thought I had a servo motor issue, but the noise cleared up after the service. Anyway, the service writer said there are 3 servo motors. I'm wondering if there is just one part that is used to replace any one of the 3 servos. Or, are there 3 different motors (parts).....one for each servo?

  15. Here is a link to a LA Times article from 10/18/09.

    http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-toyo...2642,full.story

It states: One possible remedy is to redesign the accelerator pedal to make it harder to get caught by a floor mat, he said. Another potential fix, he said, involves reprogramming the engine's computer to automatically cut power when a driver brakes while the gas pedal is depressed.

I still don't think redesiging the floor mats is the solution because 10 years from now someone buying the vehicle (used) could potentially install a type of floor mat that could duplicate the problem.

My new 2010 ES350 has the front drivers carpet attached to the bottom carpet with those plastic ties like holds new socks together. I cut them off so I can remove the carpet for cleaning.

I just had my 10k Service and the service writer told me that the initial temporary fix was to attach the mats to the seat frames with plastic zip ties. Then I guess they decided against it. The dealer left my drivers mat in the car just like it was. They just made sure it was installed correctly.

He said another temporary fix would be coming in a few months. They are going to shorten the accelerator pedal.

Then a few months later they will have a permanent fix for the accelerator pedal and they will remove some of the sound profing material beneath the carpet and replace it with a thinner material. I guess this will allow more space between the pedal and the floor.

  16. i have a 2010 es350 ultra luxury package - my seats are not getting heated - they might just become warm - took it to the dealer today and the technician after testing it - informs that since these vehicles have both heated and cooling they use a blower instead of heating element as in the past and hence the seats do not get heated like other luxury models

would greatly appreciate of any inputs

My '09 ES seats get plenty hot. After a few minutes on "3), I have to turn it down.

My complaint is with the cooling of the seats. Even if placed on high, you can barely tell they are on.

  17. i got my new 2010 es350 in oct, 2010 - changed the clock to reflect the end of day light savings time in nov

when we put an address into the navigation - it gives an approx arrival time - the time on my es350 still shows up as daylight savings time - that is it shows one hour ahead of actual time of arrival -

took it to the dealer - who did not know how to set it - informed will investigate and revert back

called up lexus - they informed that i should contact the dealer

any one has a similar problem or know how to set the clock in the navigation system

    many thanks

My '09 ES does the same thing. I fooled around with the settings for some time, and no luck. So, now I touch the clock (arrival time) and it converts to hours and minutes remaining. I've had other vehicles with Nav and they all set the clock (dashboard display) automatically. This is the first one that does not.
