  1. Parts are not expensive for a LEXUS. At least not on EBAY. If you have an TEC. that will use your parts you bring in then all you really have to look at is labor costs. On my 97' ES300 I had all gaskets, but the head gasket changed, Timing belt,Water pump, Full tune up. Tranny fluid, Full brake job, done for $800 bucks. And the parts was $200. And my 97' ES300 runs like new with 145,000 miles on it right now. Just about anything you need for a Lexus of and kind it on EBAY. I pick up a few things for my LS400 also.
  2. Are you trying to gain Horse power in a cheap way?Cutting your cats is not a good way to do it. Just buy some HI flow CATS to replace your old ones. Anyway if you want to cut something off on your exhaust system cut the resonators off. They are right before your mufflers. And you will see better gas mileage and a small gain in horse power.
  3. The size of the Batt. Is not that important as long as it fits safely in you car. What is important is the cold cranking amps. The cold cranking amps should be the same as the OE Batt. or more.
  4. If you want a nice system for you car. You have to get rid of that stock radio. I agree it looks nice but it old and out dated. Anyway All the new high end cars have TV, DVD, NAV, ECT. So I went with a Double Din 7'' inch screen TV, DVD, NAV, mp4, Sd, ect. I think it looks nice. I've look at a few 98's and they had a Nav, and DVD as an otp. So to the few people who rode in my car thinks my car came for the dealer with that set up already. Second you can add more bass with out being too loud. I would take out the stock sub and replace it with a PIONEER TS-SW2541D. It's an 10'' inch sub and it's a Shallow Mount sub so it won't take up much space at all. You also can put the new sub in place of the stock sub if you cut the mental dash to a larger size. It doesn't take much to make this type sub fit in the rear dash. And you don't need a very powerful amp to play it. If you have about 300 watts this sub will play just fine. Ebay is an good site to find a good deal on sound. So it depends on what you want. Door speakers is what you want to pay more for. Only because you don't want to hear the voice Sound like crap. Bass is cheap and a Clear voice for mids and highs cost and lil more. But you can always find a good deal out there. Have fun.
  5. Nippondenso starters are really good. Mine went for 130,000 miles before it die. And my starter also clicked for about a week before it went out. After that And I replaced it with a brand new nippondenso starter and had no problems. I have 136,000 miles on my 96' LS400 now. And never buy anything but oil or filters from Auto zone because they get a lot of returned items that are bad. And sell the same thing to the next guy. I went through that with them when I had my Cadillac.
  6. oldskewel I agree with you. How can you lost Hp and gain mpg. And everybody else who says 87 fuel gives you more power and better mpg. Then why Race cars are running 100+ OCT. instead of 87. Why lambos call for 91 or higher fuel. Or any other true sports car at that. Calls for 91 or higher. Everybody best bet is to see what type of fuel your car calls for 87,89,or 91 and Stick with it.
  7. Gas that's funny I see their is still a lot of people who wants to look cute and not pay the upkeep. I had a Cadillac and Benz before the Lexus. You pay big money to buy so don't go cheap on something like gas. 91 or higher only. That's why I see some nice brand new cars riding around the city that's only about a year old ,and they sound like crap. You want to put cheap gas in a car GO BUY A FORD!!!
  8. Sorry to all those people who doesn't know what a loud smell means. It means a very strong smell. I'm from the south. I know we speak differently. If you haven't found the leak yet put ink in your coolant. It makes it easier to see where your leak is coming from. Hopes this helps.
  9. Quarter panel your best bet is to just let a body shop order it for you and do work. EST. about $1,200 part and paint. Any thing else you can find on Ebay for a good price.
  10. IF The interior is in rough shape. Then I would pass on that LS400 because interior work can be very costly. But if it just seats that are bad. Then go ebay and buy some seat covers for $800 bucks. It covers the front and rear seats and arm rests. Or go for a 94' LS400 in good condition.
  11. Try to check your motor mounts they wear out after awhile.
  12. If you had a Head gasket leak you would smell it. It's a very loud smell and blue smoke would come out the exhaust.
  13. Nice Ride you should put you car on Cardomain.com Check up my ES300 And LS400 on there. My Name on that site is LEXUSS.
  14. I have 20mm for my front wheels and 15mm for the rear wheels. Now the front Wheels has a finger wide gap. From the back of the rims to the brake with a 20mm spacer. Now a 15mm spacer might have worked for the front ,but I didn't want to chance it to rub. So I went with the 20mm. You can find these Spacer on Ebay for about $85 dollars a pair. Make sure you get Hubcentric spacers. Just type in (20MM WHEEL SPACERS ADAPTERS LEXUS) on Ebay and you will see what I'm talking about. I try other Types and got stuck on the side of the rode from 2 broken studs from NONHUBCENTRIC spacers . Let me know how it works out for you.
  15. Hey let me know how that works out for you.

  17. Nice rides ya'll need about a 1'' drop. Real clean Lexs.
  18. I would put my 96' LEXUS LS400 against any benz don't care if you had a S500 Benz. Benz and BMW are crap. And break down to often. If you want to trade the Lex .Trade for a newer year or model. I also have and 01 ES300 both rides great no problems.
  19. You changed everything but the ignition coils. That right there is the one thing that is stopping you from a full tune up. And the timing self adjust itself 95-up.
  20. Wow that's funny no check engine light. I've only had that problem once. In an 94 LS400 it was the ignition coils. You have two of them. And they go for about $65.00 per coil. And when the coils start to go bad you won't get a check engine light. But the good thing once that's fix you're good for about another 120,000 or 130,000 miles.
  21. Hey I've also had that same problem with my LS400. What you need is longer studs and a 20mm hubcentric wheel spacers for the front because of the brakes are so large. The rear you don't really need spacers ,but if you do choose to pick them up. Your car will ride better with out wheel vibration. Hope this helps out.
