  1. Very old Topic but I have my 1993 Cadillac Eldorado with the 4.9L motor. With no problems at all! By far it's been more reliable than my last 1996 Lexus LS400. Also the Cadillac is cheaper on upkeep too. The Lexus is an great car but some cars are better. My new M3 Bmw is fun to drive but lexus is more reliable. Pick certain years of every car make and you'll find out everyone was on top at one time or another. My garage now 1987 jaguar xj6, 1993 benz 400e, 1993 Cadillac Eldorado, 2014 Bmw M3, 1995 jaguar VDP , 1997 lexus es 300.
  2. An 04 LS430 VS 97 E320 is not a good match up at all. To be in the same ball park you will need to look at an 99 and up E430. At least then both motors are 4.3L V8's. The benz will be a better car to drive because it can make really tights coners. The Lexus is not a driver's car. But the Lexus is a better car to keep in the long run. And way cheaper to work on.
  3. Ok the Ls and the Sc400. They have the same problems. Because of the 4.0l they both share. They coupe sits real low But that's how all coupes are. Doors are long so getting is and out of the car in an parking lot will be harder than the Ls. Power steering pump if it leaks. It will leak right on your ALT and short it out the Ls does not have that problem. But the Sc is still a great car it just depends on your needs. But me I would just keep both. Keeping two old Lexus up and running. will be cheaper than a new car note and insurance.
  4. Hey Cynical thanks for your input. It's nice to get info from someone who had both cars.
  5. I'm looking at an 97 Cadillac coupe and a 96 Lexus sc400. Which one looks better. And which one would you think of as more Luxury. Thanks for your input.
  6. Where is the fuel pressure regulator located on an 97 Lexus es300?
  7. Nice ES I have an 97' also. 17's are great not to big where the ride becomes hard like a sports car. Check out my ES300 on 17's.
  8. If I was you. Go ahead with an supercharger it's the best thing for an old LS400.
  9. I have an 97' Lexus ES300. NGK Laser cut spark plugs are the best ones you can put in this car. You will feel the different and they go for about $7 to $10 bucks a plug.
  10. Well my lil brother just smashed my 96' LS400 today and it's not coming back, so I'm looking at an 2000 LS400. I looked at an LS430 and it doesn't have that rich look like the 400's has. So the LS400 will be my choice. But I going to miss my 96' LS400. :(
  11. Thanks for the replies. So the Benz sound like a great deal. For as room I'm 5'7 so I can fit in anything. I was just looking for a Benz that is almost on the same level as my 96' LS400. For as a Benz without the repair problems like most Benz and Bmw always have. A S-class Benz looks nice but they are always in the shop and my brother's 04' C-Class had the same problems. So I guess I'll go for the 99' E300TD it seems like Benz made this car as a keeper. And for as the rest of the Models I can say they just don't stack up to an Lexus LS. Thank for the info. I'll keep ya'll posted on the two cars.
  12. Cutting out the resonators doesn't change the sound of the car much. LS400's for some reason just not a very loud car when you add mods. Unless you do a larger full exhaust system. When I cut my resonators on my 96' 400 it sounded really nice. Not loud at all. It was a heavier low sound. Kinda like a old school car but way smoother and you can only hear the sound when you push the gas. Other than that. You wouldn't even be able to tell the change in sound at cruise speed or when you're parked. I have an air intake system, Cut the resonators off, and racing JDM 3 1/2'' mufflers on my LS400. And my car is not loud at all.
  13. There is an double din install kit available. That's what I have in my LS400. I think Eagle makes the kit ,but I not 100% sure. I've had my system for awhile ,and it's always on back order. Circuit city doesn't have that kit and they can't order it. I try 2 years ago. Try Best Buy or Mobile One Audio Sound And they should have it or at least can order the kit for you. B)
  14. Thanks for the Consumer Report Thomas,But your E-class report shows an E320 Benz with the V-6 3.2L with an gas engine. What I'm talking about is An 99' Benz E300TD 3.0L Iron block Inline 6. Diesel engine. Turbocharge. They only made this Model in 98'and 99' years. And from what I've seen in the price range from 12,000 to 14,000 dollar range. The miles or between 160,000 to 200,000 miles on them. So I think 90,000 miles on a Turbo diesel isn't so Bad. I don't see many reports about this Model. Only a few and most of them are form people who only drive Mercedes. And never had a car from Japan. A lot people say Diesels motors last longer than gas motors. And diesels has less maintenance also. Has anyone Had a Benz Diesel before. And how hard or easy is it to maintain compared to a LS400.
  15. 20's will make your car slower just because of the weight and size of the rims. So you want big rims and the same speed you had before. You need more horse power and TQ. I would do some minor exhaust work and an Air intake system. An LS400 won't get very loud form these things being done. Unless you put a large exhaust system on your car. I would increase size by .25 or 1/4' inch. It helps out a great deal and cut the resonators off. Add Hi Flow cats to. Hope this helps you out. I know it worked for me.
  16. If I had to pick between a LS430 and LS400. I would pick the LS400. Only because the 400 can makes tighter turns and doesn't have as many electronics to go bad like the LS430. Now we're talking long term ownership for the LS400. But you just want a car to look nice for about 2 years and then sell it. Then get a LS430. But In my book the LS400 is a keeper. LS430 has More electronics more things to break with time more money to fix. Engineering and reliability differences not very much in that area you're safe with both cars. Good luck on you search for your next LS.
  17. A Rx Is the SUV version of the ES to me. They both share a lot of the same parts. But they both can't compare to an LS of any year. They just don't ride or handle as smooth or quickly as an LS can. LS is and always will be #1.
  18. I'm looking at an 99' Benz E300TD fully loaded with every opt. I had an 01' S430 an It suck like hell. Always in the Shop with only 40,000 miles on it. I had it for a year and sold it. I always like Benz style. Just not the money I had to spend on it behind auto shop costs. I've read form other Benz owners that this model is the best one you can buy. For as staying away form repairs like most Benzs do. I'm keeping my LS400. I just wanted an travel car that I can keep for a classic. So does anyone think an 99' E300TD with 90,000 miles on it for $13,000 is a good deal. And will it stand up to my 96' LS400. With out the pain of being in the shop all the time. The Dealer has all the service records also. And does anyone know any problems with this Model I would have to look out for. Thanks for reading. B)
