  1. ...its all in good spirit fellas...this is just such a controversial subject!

I'm not knocking Mobile 3309 or any other knock off down....i just dont see it in my recomended fluid type in my manual is all...

Im sure Mobile has probably R&D thier product to the specifications of the tranny they go into and placed the product strategically in the market to get a piece of the pie - and sure enough it does exactly what the label says it does...meets or exceeds the recomended etc.

if its your preference...go for it! these LS's are way out of warranty anyways :P

  2. I would love to cut a hole in my fender.. and duct some piping into a "ram" type setup in the lower grill.

buuuuuuuuut...... i don't think I have the grapes for that at the moment!! :D

 that would be a good modification for a better cool air intake than the Factory setup for sure....and when you think you get the grapefruits to do it....take pics!! B)

  3. .....must....hold....back.....

    ....must......show.....restraint.......AAAAAAAARRRRRGH!!!

    ....whew... THAT was close.

    "WHY DON'T YOU SEARCH n00b!!!!!"

LOL  Is that what you were going to say Mark???? hahaha

    Jk man! :D

...yes...but i had to conjure up all the power i could muster to resist....so i formally apologize to those of you that experienced a blackout earlier...

hope you find the deal you are looking for Glenmore :) we could all use a deal in these times.

  4. I always wondered....

Spraying the intake piping with some sort of heat resistant material... would probably drastically reduce air temps going into the engine...

...prolly have to get in touch with NASA on that one...

i wouldnt say drastically reduce, the intake pipe is too short for the fast moving air transfer heat particles to any sort of materials...

thats way intercoolers are so big, that air has to move through alot of material to transfer the heat off...

    Try this as an experiment..

    Shop Vac

    Duck Tape

PVC pipe or equivalent the same length as your LS intake

    2 digital thermometers

you get the jist of it, but try any material possible inside the piping to see if it cools the air at any signifigance.

    ...Science is so cool... B)

  5. I had a 68 cadillac de'ville once with a 475 cubic block rated at 325 Horsepower and a 3 speed Tranny, that boat could float down the road pretty fast! it was suprisingly a quick car, despite it wieghed as much as a full size truck.

Gosh yeah.. I had a 1972 Buick Electra with a 455 engine... he car weighed nearly 5000 pounds, but it would still roast the back tires and pin you back in the seat. I most always babied that car, but there were two occasions I had to give her all she had. My current '72 Chevy Caprice and '73 Pontiac Grand Ville (both big blocks) are no slouches either, but I really baby those. ;)

AHHH yes...the models right befor the government regualtions on the gas guzzlers....a 74' thru 78' V8 Block was only pushing 120 HP or less back in those days... <_<

  6. I shake my head every time i hear someone (mainly teens) in a modded vehicle run it to the Red line before shifting....sounds cool yeah, but thats not where the power is, and youll get dusted every time you race that way.
I believe you are wrong. There are only a few cars where what you say might be true (80s-90s Corvettes, virtually all diesel cars, etc.), but virtually all modern cars today perform best running the engine all the way to the redline. That's where all the torque/power is! ESPECIALLY on Hondas with VTEC and Toyotas with VTTi or whatever it's called.

If you look at a horsepower/torque curve, you'll usually see the power start to taper off just a few hundred RPM before redline, but that's still much more than what's available when you shift to the next gear at that point (or sooner).

(No wonder you guys are getting smoked! )

..slight differences in opinions, no biggie. when i say take it to the redline, i mean i hear kids hitting the RPM Limiter before shifting..(NANANANANANANA..thats useless....and annoying.

the only way your truly going to know what your cars strengths is to have it Dyno'd...the you can map out your shift points.

  7. Oh yeah and FYI I speak from experience. I had the retarded RMM intake on my 1LS.

Just a stupid velocity stack adapter and a big K&N.

    what a waste of money!!!!!!!!!!!!

    :censored:

I agree with you on that one Jcrome, I thought Don Corleone was talking about the actual intake manifold was an upgrade intake the SC400's use, like they were designed different than our LS400's.

Im leaving my intake Box Stock, cause if i ever decide to upgrade to an 04 LS430.... im selling mine, and i would like to keep most of it stock :)

  8. I don't understand this torque argument though, probably for obvious reasons associated with the poster of heresaid reply, me. But, my 05 4runner with the 4.7 V8 generates 270 HP at 5,400 rpm / 320 lbs of torque at 3,400 rpm. My 01 GS430 generates 300 HP at 5,600 rpm / 325 lbs of torque at the same 3,400 rpm. The GS is clearly more powerful across the board. However, the 4runner will throw you from the driver's seat to the rear glass window in a heartbeat with a full throttle start, yet the GS won't. The 4runner is super "jumpy", as where the GS feels "sluggish" in comparision. The 4runner definetly feels a lot faster than the GS. It must be in the gear ratios??

Which one's faster? My guess is the GS...

Who knows... there are many factors involved in off the line performance. The torque converter on the GS may be designed to engage more gently owing to it's luxury nature. The 4 Runner probably has lower final drive and first/ second gear ratios to assist in towing. That would explain the jackrabbit starts; but does it run out of power at ~60 mph? I remember the GS seems to take off like a rocket and never look back...

I remember most people being surprised that the LS430 with 'only' 290 HP was consistently the second fastest car in any roundup; only the BMW 745 was faster. It even beat the Infiniti Q45 despite having 50 less hp and weighing more.

one of those factors being the Driver Himself, does he feather into an Hard acceleration or just stomp it hard core? Does he know the Maximum power curve in the RPM range and know his shift points to go slightly past it before shifting? most of the new cars today compute these factors for you in hard acceleration, but also puts in the mix the most "fuel efficient" factor as well...so it is better to "manually" shift yourself if you really know your vehicles strengths in the RPM range.

I shake my head every time i hear someone (mainly teens) in a modded vehicle run it to the Red line before shifting....sounds cool yeah, but thats not where the power is, and youll get dusted every time you race that way.

  9. another thing you could do is either mod your intake or get a aftermarket one. i have a injen sc400 intake on mine and it sounds like a airplane when i drive down the street. "Wooooooooooooooooosh!" kinda like that. very powerful and menacing. you can just remove the air box and have the filter exposed or buy a rod millen filter and adapter or custom fit a sc400 intake in yours. doesnt help exhaust noise though, just the sound of the intake which is a big difference.

and your gas tank in actually IN the trunk behind the rear seat. the hump under your trunk is for your spare tire

yaa i know that i found that out when i put two subwoofers in the back of trunk i was like wtf is this black thing...oh wow the gas tank, man that looks safe <_<

YEP! safe indeed...its almost impossible to rupture in a rear end collision.. ;) ..unless someone fell asleep at the wheel in a Semi.

  10. trust me i know very well how expensive these cars are. $1500 tune up on a almost 20 year old car LOL. even the parts alone ran me about $500 but thank God for sites like these and lexls for all the great and FREE info lol. i checked the coils with a multimeter and both check out at 12.25 and the repair manual states they should be between 10200-13800 so they are fine. i also checked my wires, extremely low!!!!! Denso first time fit wires; cost about $90 here are my ohms

    1... 0.75

    2... 0.89

    3... 2.52

    4... 2.31

    5... 2.40

    6... 2.25

    7... 1.58

    8... 1.61

    c... 0.59

    c... 0.85

thus why i LOVE denso products (PS both coils are denso originals and wires have 2-3 yrs on them)

Its good to see people actually using Ohm Meters to diagnose an issue before they spend thier Hard-earned money on useless replacements! :D

  11. Experienced same intermittent problem with 99 LS.Loose connection in dash ?Try banging on top of dash and see if it pops up.Good luck!!

Same thing happens in my 95LS every month or so, had to also slap on the top right side of the dash to get it moving again. havent taken the Dash Cluster out yet to remedy the problem!

so the SC400 aluminum intake is an upgrade for the LS400 Block? just a bolt on, or is there a mod plate needed???

  13. On the inside of the turn your radius would have been smaller, and you'd have made short work of the Honda.
But the LS is no good at making turns!

:P oh yes it is too!! aint nothin' like Hard-Cornering in a squirly turn in a full size Luxury Vehicle! i did that at lunch coming off a small 35mph turnpike hitting Traffic Flow at 80+! i bet my front left skirt kissed the asphalt once or twice...

...thats why i need new Bushings and Shocks!

  14. Honda Accord huh...my wife drives an 2002 Acoord EX V6, by far no slow poke, but only 200hp and 175 torque...it cannot handle any year LS.
    A 2002 Accord V6 could easily take on a '90-'94 LS.

Keep in mind the current Accord V6 has 271 horsepower and 254 lb-ft of torque and weighs at least 200-300 pounds less than the LS.

but i know for sure the 95 and up LS will outrun the accords up to the 06' V6 model.

I dunno about that. I drove an '05 Accord V6 for two years or so, and that car definitely seemed a lot faster than my LS does.

The UCF20 I's weight and 4-speed automatic are really what hold it back.

I guess the guys with the Accords i trounced on for trying to pass me needs to turn in thier mancards then!!!

true, the weight of the car and the slushbox dont make it a great "off the line" car, but it does a good job in it's class.

I had a 68 cadillac de'ville once with a 475 cubic block rated at 325 Horsepower and a 3 speed Tranny, that boat could float down the road pretty fast! it was suprisingly a quick car, despite it wieghed as much as a full size truck.

Question for the gear heads: Is the heads on these Toyota/Lexus V8's interchangeable? for instance are the Blocks all the same design with the increase in Liters only in the heads? can the heads off a 2000 LS fit on a 95 LS Block?? the Horsepower increase always seem to be improvements in the Head design.

  15. Honda Accord huh...my wife drives an 2002 Acoord EX V6, by far no slow poke, but only 200hp and 175 torque...it cannot handle any year LS.

ok, i admit i never have driven a 90-94 LS, but i know for sure the 95 and up LS will outrun the accords up to the 06' V6 model. 98 LS and up will give the new Accords a run for the money.

also, its according to your racing/passing style too -

The New Accords cant hang with the new LS460's. a totally different animal altogether.

  16. Oh lol. I'm not too experienced with differentials bahaha

all I know is that if I floor it from a turn, either direction, it straightens itself out pretty quick. It's hard to spin out. Makes for nice drifting though B)

late reply, but that would be thanks to the nice 50/50 wieght ratio these cars have!!

  17. As a long time DIY kind of guy, The LS is by far the easiest car to "read" as far as basic maintanance and mechanical work goes, not to mention the most reliable!

Honda Accord huh...my wife drives an 2002 Acoord EX V6, by far no slow poke, but only 200hp and 175 torque...it cannot handle any year LS.

    next time....Smoke em.

    so far, ive taken -

anything Honda, even the Civic Si's....please!

Haundai Tiburan's are fun to beat!! only 176HP

all mazda's cept for the RX-8 and Murai...ill never see one of those in my lifetime!

    Got smoked by:

    the new Genesis

Most new Mercedes 500 and 700 series...and newest BMW's as well. but i give them a run for thier money anyways!

Dont be afraid to push the LS, you wont break it...and the deal with the 5k maintainance schedule is just

"guidlines". the Basics is all you need to worry about till its time for the Timing belt change.

    :D

  18. I have never never been a fan of Shell. And this just drives the nail further into the coffin.

I wonder if Shell adds ethanol as well as nitrogen. DOUBLE STUFT!!! lol

 i dont doubt that! 10%Nitrogen, 10% ethanol, 10% V-power, 5% water. Now your only getting 65% Gasoline....but hey! better for the "enviroment" right? jus kiddin' viromental folks!

  19. yes! :D enjoy it indeed!

no matter if you find one with MLS, NAV, ULTRA, SUPER ULTRA, SEAT MASSAGER, or whatever Badge it may or may not have, they are all awesome Luxury Vehicles.

Im shopping for my wife an LS430 as of now, and sometimes you can get a way better deal on the "Standard" LS430's for lack of a NAV and other goodies, cause thats what everyone wants. they are all the same powertrain, bodystyle, and smooth ride. ill travel anywhere in the Southern US to get one!

Im really suprised there are as many for sale out there as there is, i figured the drop in gas prices would make these things dissapear fast! i just cant imagine selling my baby either.
