  1. USE AMSOIL!

Way too many posts about people having shift issues using non speced fluids in an Aisin Warner transmission. Mobil makes T-IV and badge it under Mobil 3309. Besides, I can buy T-IV from a dealer for less than I can buy Amsoil. SO why would I pay more for a non-specified fluid?? Makes no sense at all.

    because you are getting more.

  3. It should be obvious to all that Toyota's transaxle design is currently, constantly changing, in a state of "flux", since the initial design flaw, mistake, was embedded late in the last century. But, additionally, the frictional material for the torque converter lock-up clutch has been changed throughout the industry just within the last few years. Beyond that time the lockup clutch was only used in top gear and under low engine torque conditions to facilitate an actual OD gear ratio. Nowadays it is being used to (marginally) improve FE in maybe all the top gears of a 6-speed transaxle, 4th, 5th, and 6th.

Who better to know the proper formulation for the ATF for a given car model other than the OEM designers of the transaxle....??

Just becuase they design a AT does not mean they know anything on fluid. They still push oil drains that are 10+ years old..BONG...Toyota does not make fluids. They buy them and rebadge them.

I do not put much faith in mfg on fluids or anything. They write manuals that bean counters write, not engineers.

YMMV, but if you think Toyota fluid is great, that is wonderful. I would tell anyone to test it compared to Amsoil or any other "top tier" fluids. Look at what gives you more, it an't toyo.

Lastly, if toyo fluid was so good why did my car shifter smoother etc with a non-toyo fluid? PLus warranty is a non issue. Not going into it for like the 1,000,000,000 time.

If you like toyo sold fluid, keep using it. I will use other since Toyo quality it not what it once was.

  4. I work at napa and we have filters for every application, and our filters are made by WIX for napa, best filters on the market bar none

I agree they have filters for most apps, but they are NOT the best on the markert. Based on SAE tests, Amsoil oil /EAA filter blow them away. Hence the higher price.

For me, best is great Cap/Eff standards which NAPA gold/wix is missing. As I stated for years, do a UOA and see the diff.

  5. Good news. Advanced auto parts actually has the iridium plugs for $7 each. I've got 6 reserved. It is barely in my price range, but I am a happy guy.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I get iridiums for the normal everyday price...I am going back to normal plugs since iridiums is for longevity and that is it.

  6. With gas prices getting so high, and after putting 120K (at leat) on my old plugs, I'd like to replace them ASAP. Right now and in the immediate future, I will be very tight on cash and would like to purchase the less expensive platinum plugs from walmart. I know that iridium plugs are reccomended, but they are out of my range right now. My question is what can I expect from platinum plugs? Will the engine develop a miss or act up? Anyone have experience on this (not including the 4 or 2 tipped Bosch plug-just regular platinum).

I tried a search but couldn't find any info on what performance I could expect from it. Thanks guys!

Lexus does not even use iridum plugs from the factory...NGK plugs will work fine for $2 each.

  7. USE AMSOIL!

Yes, by all means, and give Lexus a certain/sure reason for voiding your warranty.

oh please! Lexus is way behind the times on fluids...Then again if someone thinks color of ATF means something you are better then superman...

Amsoil ATF is WAY over Lexus fluid( lexus does not make fluids)

  8. Maybe I am wrong, but the EAA filters where not around in 2006 here. So how could someone have one?????

Amsoil will not make filters for autos unless there is a major demand...My next filter will be there EAA filter.

My levels in UOA (just got one backl) are fine using paper so it will be cool to see how it does compared to paper.

  9. call me mr. pita but people here own some $40K+ cars and are complaining about gas prices????Come down to texass: pump on one side and sell on the other. Prices are the same as up North..

For me the gas in my car is not the issue (could careless). Issue is diesel since all items are trucked in and food is a joke....That and copper prices...

I hope the oil market falls out since it is way out of wack.

  10. I disagree here. I am paying 80% for "Inspect " things...my god You can do the samething yourself in about 1-hour for 90% less. For me, it is sad that a little service like this cost $700. I could do all this above by the time it would take to drive to a stealership and come back...For me, I can put the money I save by doing it myself to other items I need completed (easy).

I bring my car in for items I HAVE to (so far once) in 7+ years...My lexus dealer does NOT provide a loaner unless it takes longer then a day servic. YMMV.

  11. I recently replaced one of the oxygen sensors because the engine light came on. one day later it came back and now the mechanic says its another oxygen sensor and that there are 4 of them and usually when you replace one the others soon start to fail as well. If someone can give me some insight on this topic, it would be helpful. thanks

You replaced the one the DTC says too. I would not agree with the once one goes deal.

  12. I'm not too into bikes so correct me if I'm wrong..

I hear the new Honda CBR600RR gets around 70mpg?...or maybe it was a different bike... plus nothing says fun like a 15k RPM redline :D haha

What kinda MPG does your GSXR get?

I would have the read about it..a 600cc big, should be able to get that. I get over 50 mpg if I wanted to.

  13. Took the LS430 to a detailer today to have them "attempt" to take out a few of my wife's mistakes, with low expectations, but i was surprised!

They couldn't remove all of the scratches and scuffs, especially the ones that went all the way through to the primer/metal but they removed many of the lighter ones! They took most of the stains out of the interior and got the coffee smell out as well.

They wouldn't give me any of the names of their products, but i took a sneak and noticed they were using a wax called "Collinite insulator wax". All of their products seems to come in the same-looking kind of container, and most of their shines/cleaners are either blue or pink and are sprayed from a plain sprayer like what janitors use to clean the toilets. The guy finishing it off when i arrived said the wax he was using (it was in his hands at the time) is the best wax out there, and costs $40 a bottle?

Has anyone ever heard of this wax before?

yea, it is normal wax. Lasts a long time but does not do much for gloss etc. Side not, it was not invented for cars either. $40 for wax is cheap. For me, the best is what things are important to the end user. If I want to get a customer back soon I would use Nattys wax since it does not last. If I will mostly never see the car again (trading in) use a filler and be done. If the customer is a long timer, they get JW stuff and CG5050 and some quickshine when done.

  14. $70g for a vehicle thats signifigantly faster than a $126k Porsche 911 Turbo (3.7 0-60) or even the $191k Porsche GT2 (3.6 0-60) Sounds like a deal to me! :)

But speaking of bikes, I'm a sucker for a nice Hyabusa ;)

sure until the next gas station! LOL

I have a gsxr and that is all I need for speed. Cars are overpriced and overrated.

  15. New Nissan GT-R tested ON SLICK PAVEMENT 0-60 in 3.3 seconds with launch controll, 1/4 mile in 11.6 seconds. That's signifigantly faster than the Porsche 911 Turbo, and for under $70,000. put it on the proper asphalt with the perfect tires you'd be lookin at a tenth or two less.

    check it out at edmunds.com/insideline

wow- but $70K.. I have a bike that beats the times by seconds and under $8K new.. So I saved $62K...alright!

    :D
