1. Thanks for the reply. So if I disconnect the wiring on the door The rest of the power locks should still work? I didn't think of that when I had the skin off the door. Must have been braindead that morning...
2. I have read the threads that I could find pertaining to this, but thought I would check with the experts here before proceeding. Here is where I am: Purchased car without remote entry keys. About 3 months ago, the rear passenger door lock quit working when the doors were locked, or unlock when the doors were unlocked. I have since purchased new keys and receiver module for the origianl factory installed remote entry. When I use the remote entry, the locks lock, then continue to cycle and lock endlessly until I press the remote button again. At no point will it try to unlock the locked doors. In fact, it will continue to cycle through locking the doors until it runs the battery dead. I disassembled the door today, thinking it may be a shorted wire. (BTW, the window still works from the driver door or this door.) I could find no shorted or broken wires but this is what I found with checking the wiring harness to the door lock (This is the actuator, correct?) With power locks locked: Blue/Red - No Power Blue/Black - No Power Blue/White - Power White/Black - Power With Power Locks unlocked: Blue/Red - Power Blue/Black - No Power Blue/White - Power White/Black - Power I acheive the results using the locks on the driver or pasenger door. I am hoping problem #2 (continuous locking) is related to fixing the lock on the rear door. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks in advance. :D
3. ps930, Yes that's the guy, and it is a prated mitchell manual. If you want the pirated manual you can buy them as cheap as $8 other places on ebay.
4. I bought the manual on CD from an ebay seller, was nothing more than a pirated mitchell manual. Going to buy the hard copyand let 'em kill a tree for me. Think it is 2 vlumes, around $140 on ebay.
5. Welcome! 1994 GS300, 162,000 miles 1994 ES300, 181,000 miles I think the GS engine is rated for many more mailes than the ES, espcially with proper maintenance.
6. Hey PS930, here is something I found out... By pressing the Auto button and the Recirculate button at the same time, and then turning the ignition to the 'on' position, the heater unit will display the codes for the errors. Here but here is the next part of the problem. My unit displayed error code 21, which is a solar sensor error. The solar sensor is the sensor on the right front of the dash. I called my lexus dealer, and spoke to a tech there, who told me that almost all of the cars gs300's that come in come in with that error, from the AC being turned on in a 'dark' garage or going through a tunnel. He said that he has never had to replace a solar sensor. He told me that the light blinking is almost always a sign of the clutch on the compressor malfunctioning. Also, that they always replace the compressor along with the clutch when this happens. So thought I would give you a heads up. Oh, BTW, to clear the codes on the unit you remove the 2nd fuse in the fuse box under the hood, from the top closest to the passenger compartment. It should be 7.5amps. Leave it removed for 10 seconds, with the key off, and it should clear all the codes on the AC/heater unit. Hope this is in some way helpful and that you got yours fixed. :) Mine is a new clutch and compressor. :(
7. Do you have the reprogramming procedure. Mine is a 94 with the same problems described by Big G
8. My 94 acts similar with the light flickering, but it never does actually work. I posted a thread on it a couple days ago, but so far, no responses to it. Here is the link to that thread in case youwant to chek it as well: Thread on light blinking on my AC unit
9. Has anyone seen this? When I turn on the front defroster or the Air Conditioning, the light for the A/C comes on solid for a few seconds, blows air (which is not cold), then blinks constantly. Never blows cold air. :( Is this a diagnostic for low level of refrigerant, or possibly a bad sensor or fan relay? Does anyone know? <_< Thanks in advance for the help.
10. I will try to post a picture, I know they changed the remote key design in 96 or 97.
11. Just FYI... The bottom foglight (foglamp) spacer clip is slight upward pry. It hooks into the foglight assembly with a downaward pointing tab. The top part of this spacer is a round knukle type clip that pushes over a round knob (screwhead). I found it easier to lift the bottom clip off first, then gently work the top knuckle back and forth until it release from the 'knob'. To reinstall, I put the bottom clip in first, then pushed the knuckle type clip over the knob. In case anyone needs to know.
12. I have the one that is built in the key. When I press it, nothing happens (No red light in car flashes, etc. There are no lights on the key.) That would not rule out a fuse or relay in the car, though would it? I put in a new battery. Is they key reparable, or would I need to replace it? And don't want to drop another $370 for keys and chip if it could be something in the car.
13. If it is anything like my ES300, then I would need to buy the key set and the chip for the receeiver in the trunk, unless I can find a key with the exact FCC ID number. I assume it is the same setup and the keys are not programmable as in the 94 ES300.
14. Already tried the switch, it still no worky!
15. Just purchased my 94 GS300, black on Beige/Tan, And the key had no battery in it. Went to Radio Shack, purchased new battery, made sure remote switch was on, and still no success. Previous owner claimed that the key used to work. Does anyone have an opinion as to whether or not this could be the transponder in the key, and if so, is just that part of the key replaceable, or am I looking at a new set of keys and chip for the receiver in the trunk? If just the transponder, any idea on cost? I have yet to check fuses and relays, but I would assume there are some for this. Every other power option is working. Help?
16. I don't know if they do it free or not, but the manual is online (in sections) at lexus.com, under the owners section. You will have to register and put in your VIN to add the car to your virtual garage, but then the manul is available for viewing (and saving and printing) on your computer.
17. I have traction control, so are you saying that if I have the traction control I have the touring package.
18. Is there a way to tell by the VIN if the 94GS has the touring package? Love the car, a major difference from the 94 ES300 I have!
19. I am pretty mechanically inclined, have built and rebuilt a few engines (and yes, they run when I ma done :D ), but just wondering if anyone has installed a turbo on their GS themselves. I am looking at one with all the instructions, taken off a GS that was wrecked. Any experience?
20. Ok, so I took the plunge and added a second Lexus to my garage, this time a GS300, 1994, Black on Brown/Tan, 18" rims, Vented rotors, 12-CD Changer, Heated seats, 250Watt Power Amp, Traction Control, the whole package. (as far as I can tell). Cold Air intake, K&N Air Filter. Even got the stock 16" rims. Picked it up yesterday, and ride is incredible for the miles. Higher mileage (169K, obviously highway), but a great price, I think! ($6750). Oil changed every 3000 miles, Garage kept, not a ding anywhere on the body! So a few questions: Is there a way to tell if it has the touring package? The trim piece around the drivers window is broken (someone tried to break in). Any ideas where can pick this up, other than Lexus. I get a lttlewind rush at that point around the window, and know that replacing it will eliminate the noise completely. Also, the woodgrain trim piece on the top of the center dash console (around the clock and vents) is a little rough. Is there a place I could purchase just that part that I can get a atch, or am I resigned to purchase the kit and do the entire interior. Needs an oil change now, so I am going to be changing it over to synthetic. Anythin in particular I need to know about the cld air intake? I have red the threads, so I have some of the basics as the hows and whys. Anything I should be on the lookout for? Thanks for the replies.
21. Just bought a 94 GS300 that has 18" wheels with low profile tires. Was wondering if the stck 16" wheels will fit on my 94 ES300? Thanks for the replies!
22. Ok, so I took the plunge and added a second Lexus to my garage, this time a GS300, 1994, Black on , 18" rims, Vented rotors, 12-CD Changer, Heated seats, the whole package. Haven't picked it up yet, but will get it Saturday from Toledo. Higher mileage (169K, obviously highway), but a great price, I think! ($6750). Oil changed every 3000 miles, Garage kept, not driven in winter weather. Have a 250 mile ride home on the interstate, so we'll see what she's like. Anything I should be on the lookout for?
23. I am possibly goingto purchase a GS. What are the differences (mdel year to model year?) I a lookin for a 93-96, so what would anybody have to say? Also, how is the dependability with high miles. The ES and LS seem to be good. Thanks for the input.
