  1. my question is when you first purchase a car, what things should you check, what kind of maintenance do you do off-hand and what kind of preventative maintenance is there?
  2. yea i took a quick look at how i can change the front bulbs, looks like i have to pry off a layer than use a wrench to un latch it..i guess i'll figure it out someway or another lol
  3. lol well I'll just test out the theories and see which works, thanks
  4. 19-1996 Es300, that holds true to the 02+ year es330, I have one friend in particular loves the car, others nag on him sayin its an old mans car..just be glad its not a bmw 330, now THAT is a chicks car..es330 is simply classy but yea reason why younger people dont drive it is because we may not afford it plain and simple
  5. yea you really cant go wrong. When I see people bring in an older es300 into carmax to get appraised, I get happy knowing it has tons of miles because that obviously shows it lasts as long as you take care of it. I dont drive much at all, about 6-8k miles a year so we'll see how long my ES lasts but good knowing your ok, shoot a 02 dodge 1500? eff that..
  6. yea i checked that out..thats why im in the air with this one, i was suprised by the vid how the guy managed to double his gas mileage, the acetone added 10 miles to the gallon, the rest was common stuff like proper inflation of tires and limiting the extra weight in the trunk
  7. this one must be a no brainer, but when i signal to go right, the signal flashes rapidly, when go left its normal. I assume its the bulb going dead? not sure which bulb it is exactly because when I look at the front and back they both look dimmer than when i check the left..any definite answer? thanks
  8. I figure 2morrow I'll ask the mechanics at my job (carmax) and see what their opinion is. why not
  9. Yes, it did increase my mpg, but certainly NOT by double! Over the course of several months and probably ten to twelve tanks of Chicago city stop and go driving my average went up from 14.7 to about 16 mpg. Obviously adding acetone did not address whatever was causing such low mpg to begin with, but it helped a little. From an organic chemistry perspective, the addition of acetone -- in the right proportions -- will increase the amount of fuel burned instead of wasted. It did for me. Are their serious downfalls to using the substance such as hearing that the acetone solution may mess up the O rings/gaskets, fuel injectors, etc. in the long run. I even read that due to acetone having 5% of water may create rust in gas tank. trying to do as much research as possible, my car is 96, 154,xxx miles
  10. I saw a vid clip indicating how someone doubled their gas mileage from 17 to 34 mpg, did the usual taking heavy items out of the car/less weight, replaced air filter etc, and added a few ounces of acetone with gas and doubled the gas mileage...for all you to view, heres the vid. let me know what you think http://www.metacafe.com/watch/524517/doubl...gas_mileage_2x/
  11. My drivers window was doing the same thing, it was the motor.. I removed the two phillips screws that hold the motor casing together and pried the motor open just enuff to shoot some lube/cleaner into it. I lubed the regulator drive cable/casings as well as any and everthing that moved when the glass moved. once the motor screws were re-tightend I kept running the glass up and down. @ first the motor would start and stall, gradually it started to loosen up and now its going great... Its been a cpl weeks and its still working 100%. I`m going to do the same to the passenger side as its a bit sluggish by comparison. hope this helps : ) what kind of cleaner exactly? windex? lol
  12. Is there any other decent place in the fairfield county CT where I could take my ES300 for servicing? cheap and honest ? ← Lexus of Greenwich is the only other dealership in Fairfield County. Although I've never taken my car there for maintenance, I have paid a visit for parts purchases and some quick maintenance advice from the service advisors. The nice thing about this dealership is that they are open M-F until 11PM (long enough to cater the hard-working crowd) :D ← Lexusk8: So which place do you go to for the servicing? I just bought a '97 ES300 and need to find a place where I can take it regularly, for preventive maintenance as well as for anything else that comes up. Your advice is appreciated. I live in lower Fairfield county. 96---154.XXX...I actually just bought mine last june with 148k miles, dont drive much but so far so good. Purchased it for hella cheap, and I work at carmax so I see qutie a bit of the ES models ranging from 93-2000 with over 200k miles so that speaks for itself.
  13. My es300 driver window is pretty much done. I can at times, roll window down but only a few inches, and wont go up nor down. Then after 5 minutes it'll do more so but id say about an 1/4 inch either up or down whichever way i choose. If i need to roll it back up it'll take an hour or so pending on how far down i had the window..etc etc..im trying to figure out if it is the regulator or motor, where I can purchase and have it repaired or if its easy to do so myself, rather than take it to lexus and have them charge me like crazy. Im residing in south florida and soon enough i will bake in my own car especially with the humidity...any input helps THANKS!!
