I bought 2 of the struts that hold the hood up from auto zone. I'm having some problems getting the hardware out of the sockets on the factory struts. Can anybody tell me what I have to do to get these things out? Thanks! Ler

Is there supposed to be a screw? My cover keeps popping off, and I've lost a few batteries this way. Where can I get a screw that will fit?

Appearance is really nice. I've had some touch-ups done, and there are only a few scattered blemishes. The interior has the usual wear and tear, a the steering wheel has some cracks, there is only one rip at the top of the rear seat, and a chip out of the center vent on the dash. I've stated the mechanical condition in my other posts. New engine block, transmission, radiator, ect. It runs and drives like a brand new car. Plus I have all the documents to back me up. What ever you guys recommend is what I'll probably place in my ad. THANKS A TON LOC! -Ler

I have ALL of the repair records for the car. I'm about 90% sure I'm going to advertise. I just wonder how much to put on the price tag. PS. I'm thinking my starter is starting to go

My final bill for a new engine and radiator and other misc. parts + labor was $2900. The mechanic payed for the place on the bumper where the engine swung and chipped the paint. All of the big problems with the body have been taken care of. I had another unexpected expense. I had to put in a harmonic balancer which cost me about $550. But, I've been up and running for a while now. The car runs really good once it warms up, and it shifts and drive like a brand new car. However, I'm looking for something I'm not afraid to park on campus, and DEFIANTLY something that gets better gas mileage, so I've decided to put my car up for sale. Can anybody give me an estimate on how much I could get out of this car taking in consideration how much more you'd be willing to pay for a car with a new engine/transmission/radiator/tires? PS I think I may have earned the right to be the official LOC member with the worst luck! :D

Drove it to work today and decided to check something out... Turns out that there was no transmission fluid in it . I'm pretty much irate. Called the mechanic today, and he came and towed it to the shop. Who knows how its gonna go from here, I put a few miles on it without knowing that it hadn't been filled. I'll let you know if I have to put ANOTHER transmission in. Pretty good day, huh?

There are two screws on left and right side where you open up the cup holder, and then you have to pry out the vent on the dash to get to two more screws. You will have to get a harness...My suggestion is to buy from crutchfield. BE CAREFUL TAKING OUT THE VENT! Mine is broke right now (not my doing) and I still cant even get it out. I was hoping someone could tell me if there is some sort of trick to get that out, I know you have to pry up on those two little clips...but that vent housing is in there pretty damn snug.

He'd laugh if I asked him to buy that from me, my only option is to sell it myself. I'm thinking about taking the money from the car and get a motorcycle.... B)

Its k... Anybody know what I could get out of this car with its current condition?

I've heard that about Lexus only using Toyota transmission fluid. I'll check into that.

Update... I logged on and saw this advice too late, I jumped the gun like a big dummy and went ahead and got tires today. AND THIS IS WHAT I GET The tire guy finishes putting on the tires and comes in and tells me I'm leaking antifreeze, so I go to take a look with him. The things that hold up the hood are messed up so the guy stuck a pair of vice grips on them to hold them up while we loaded it up with antifreeze. He went to put down the hood and forgot the grips were there.....well, he put a nice little bend in the drivers side of the hood. I didn't find out till I got out the first time to do a coolant check, and I still haven't called the shop. What would you guys do? HOWEVER, my drivers side window rolls down now...:) I really cant believe that the tranny is acting up because it has just over 40k on it (replaced 4 months after purchase of car). Dad drove it yesterday and didn't think there was a problem at all, but I KNOW that its not right. Is there anything that can be adjusted or wrong that you can think of that would be causing this? I'm not dealing with the mechanic that put in the engine anymore, If I end up fixing the new problems, I am taking it to someone with more experience with Toyota/Lexus. You guys are probably right, I ought to sell this damn car. Its getting a bit overwhelming, and I am COMPLETELY out of money now. Man, THIS SUCKS! Ler

Remember me? http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...mp;#entry232276 I picked up the old girl on Friday after an EXCRUCIATING 5 and a half months in the shop (new block and radiator :censored: ). I am yet to pay my repair bill of $2909.11 because the mechanic was on lunch when I got there. As I strolled out to hop it, I was met with a variety of fun new problems. The engine was dropped on the bumper and a small gash was left (damage is being paid for by mechanic), my passenger side headlight is full of water (probably not shops fault), my drivers side window doesn't roll up, I STILL have a bearing squeaking, he didn't fix the parking brake, and it doesn't seem to be shifting right when I get to about 20 mph. I go tomorrow for new tires and an alignment, and I have an appointment to get my bumper fixed and I'm looking for two new headlights now. The bearing is getting checked out this week too. I managed to fix my radio problems today, so at least I have some tunes on to drown out the sound of the irritating squeak. I know that these are really great cars. This one might be a dud, or maybe the last owner just ran this into the ground. I don't want my problems to scare anybody away from getting one, but just remember this: The fun just never stops when you drive a Lexus ;) PLEASE, tell me what you think about the bill and the the current problems. Make sure you have Toyota Transmission fluid and if you do, try Lucas transmission fix. I put a new tranny in my Lexus a year ago, and right now I'm waiting on an engine and radiator to be put in (may be done tomorrow :D). Hope you have better luck then me! Ler

How? I've considered this same thing because I found some very nice ones from a newer Lexus on ebay... What do you have to worry about as far as a clean fit? Also, what about the air bag, horn, cruise control, ect.?

Yes I am, sorry for delay.... Evidently, the block was the only thing damaged, but due to high miles, we decided to go ahead with an engine swap. The car has the old engine out and the hood off (I'm hoping to get some pics of that) and he's ordered the motor. Still no idea on the ETA for the engine. But NOW I'm out of vehicals to drive...the alternator died on dad's Mitsubishi mighty max, and we've also found traces of oil in the antifreeze. Since my parents are down to two vehicles now, that leaves me to find a ride with friends. For now I'm focusing on getting some cash saved up, and also getting other stuff I need to fix the Lexus with (namely speakers and paint touch up). So for now I'm just gonna play the hand thats been dealt to me. This isn't the end of the world, and I know it could be worse. I'm getting by ok with what I've got. I'll keep you guys posted Ler

Where can I find a paint touch up kit for my pearl white 93 es300? Its got a few chips and a tiny rust spot on the trunk. I talked to a friend that used to be a body man, he's going to help do the touch ups, but I've got to find the stuff. Anyone? Ler

From what I've read, alpine 6.5s are too deep to fit in a es300. I'm putting in infiniti kappas. www.crutchfield.com

The car overheated BAD and it turned out that the block was cracked. We're ordering a new engine this week, lots of miles on the car anyway, so we're adding some longevity to it and putting a rebuilt engine with ~ 40,000 miles on it (sorry to everyone who wanted me to scrap the ole girl....Been shopping for new cars, and there's NO way I can get something else). Just my 2 cents.... This happened to me and now I have to replace an engine... Hope you have better luck then me!!!

I've got this same problem...would epoxy or even double sided tape do the job?

First of I can't thank you guys enough for the incite. I'm listening to EVERY opinion I get. We went and talked to mechanic yesterday. He hadn't been called back yet on price for new block yet, but he called while we were there and got a price of $900 plus ~$150 to ship from California. He said he thought that it would take him 10-12 hours to pull engine and put the new one back in @ $40 an hour. 12 x 40 hrs. = $480 to save you the math. Final estimate of about $1530.....reasonable???? Also, I got my stereo faceplate and key out of my car, then locked it. The old girl is being guarded by 2 big !Removed! dogs....so I'm as worried about thieves or vandals anymore. The mechanic was very helpful. His guess was that previous owners didn't change oil like they should. He also said he didn't want to have to do this for me again so he wanted to do it right...and said it in a sincere way. Nice guy, and he's done work for my family before. Also, we live in a small community, so he can't afford to loose his good reputation. Ler
