  1. Original owner since new over 14 years. GS 400 is still strong with no major problems except a new starter this year. Wouldn't give it up. If it looks good and drives good, "go for it" .
  2. Your solution mentions removing the wiper arm. Is that really necessary for just removing the wiper blade for replacement?? My concern is to remove just the wiper blade to either change it or replace the squeegee only. Usually changing a blade doesn't require removing the arm. There must be a simpler way to remove the blade fom the arm on the rear wiper.
  3. 2004 RX 330..How do you remove the rear door wiper blade? After removal can the old rubber squeegee be replaced with a new rubber squeegee and continue using the original wiper blade frame?
  4. Planning to use additive Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus on next gas fill up to clean out system & stop some minor emgine pinging on 1998 Gs 400. Car has pleasurable 95,000 miles. Anyone used this products with reportable results?
  5. I was amazed with your mileage at 300,000. I own a GS400, also 1998 and it runs great at 95,000 miles. Was wondering what other problems besides the catalytic converter you experienced through the years. Good luck with the converter.
  6. Thanks for reply, plugs were changed at 60,000 mi with iridium plugs. Just had new starter installed which required removal of intake manafold . While that service was done I had the tech check the plugs and they were fine. Hope the additive Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus works on next fill up.
  7. 1998 GS 400.. 95,000 originl miles always using 91 octane gas and am now starting to hear engine pinging at slow speed in high gear on inclines. What's going on? Please help with any suggestions. Is this a sign of water in gas? Have read not to use any alcohol additives to remove water as alcohol will harm engines. Planning on using a bottle of Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus added to gas on next fill up to clean combustion chamber deposits. We don't have Chevron stations in western NY so always use Sunoco.
  8. Following the owners manual I use regular gas (87 octane) in my 2004 RX 330 with no problems. Mileage is always in the 19-20 MPG range. Newer (2009) RX 350 owners manual recommends 91 octain gas. Is 91 octain really necessary with the RX 350 engine and what would be the negative result of using 87 octain in the either the 330 or the 350 engine? I pose this question because my daughter has just purchased a 2009 RX 350.
  9. Is there a recall for 2004 RX330 for steering or crankshaft?
  10. My 2004 RX 330 (all wheel drive) gets only 25,ooo miles on brakes and rotors. Is this to be expected on an all wheel drive SUV?
  11. Agreed; it's all about politics and a grand plan to raise energy cost in the U.S. so we eventually accept windmills on our trunk lids to run our cars.
  12. I vote that they keep all the ethanol in the corn in Iowa, where it belongs..... Hear me? Sorry, I don't actually know the answer to your question, but do wish they'd quit producing it so the price of corn would go down and they'd keep politics out of our gas tanks! Greetings from Iowa! The answer is no. A 10% blend of ethanol in 87 octane or 89 octane is fine. It is of course used here in a great number of cars and I have used in it both my 05' and 10'. Actually Code, we export over 70% of the corn production for food products and use less than a few percent for ethanol. Ethanol produced from corn is a very expensive and inefficient process. Don't expect it to last forever. Paul
  13. Will 10% ethanol in 87 octain gas cause engine damage in 2004 RX 330? If yes, what can be done? Additive??what kind?
  14. I have a 1998 GS400 and wonder about any harmful effect of using 91 octane gas that has 10% ethanol. If the gas can cause damage what can be used as an additive?
  15. I have Bridgestone Dueler Alenzas on my 2004 RX330 (46,000 current mileage) and now have a loud howeling noise problem that started about 10,000 miles following the new tires being installed. The noise is loudest at 45-60mph and reduces slightly at highway speeds beyond 65 mph but is still noticeable. Have read customer surveys from Tire Rack and have noticed other Lexus 330-350 owners expressing same loud noise problems with this tire.
  16. I hear a loud continuous humming sound from rear at 45-55mph. RX 330 is AWD and has 40k miles. Can it be from U joint? Dosen't sound like wheel bearing, more like a steady loud roar, noise lessens at speeds above 60 mph. Any other similar complaints or suggestions of noise source.
  17. My 1998 GS 400 has 89,600, runs like new; best car I've ever owned. Never used in winter (Buffalo, NY)..91 octane gas only, regular 10W 50 oil at 3,000 mi oil changes, averages 22 to 24 miles per gallon, monster power and performance. Much better quality than my Canada built 2004 RX 330.
  18. My 2004 RX 330 with all wheel drive at 45,000 mi. has just started to make a low pitch humming sound comming from the rear drive train. The sound is noticable at medium speeds starting at 40 -to 50 mph. Is this an indication of a major problem or that any service procedure should be performed. Tires are about a year old and the sound was just noticed about 2 weeks ago, so I don't think the humming noise comes from the rear tires. Anyone with knowledge of what's going on, please reply.
  19. My 2004 GX 470 has paint problems as follows: A. both paint and clear coat pealing and exposing the primer from the hood (between grill and head light) and B.the clear coat is pealing from the front bumper. Vehicle was purchased used but according to a body shop acquaintance, the GX had no previous body repair in this area and paint appears to be factory original. Has Lexus experienced any paint issues in the 2004 GX 470 model that I can reference before going to the Lexus dealer to seek some remedy? Any helpful comments concerning what I can expect from the Lexus dealer would be appreciated.
  20. I remember Toyota having a recall or a notice of some kind because of defective radiators in about '04 or '05. I also remember one poster having his radiator replaced by Lexus on warranty and then the second one went bad, just like you. Since it's an '04, I would definitely contact Lexus about it because MOST radiators last the life of the vehicle (I assume this is the plastic tank that is cracked). There ARE radiator shops that replace the plastic tanks, but I am sure most would much rather sell you a new radiator and make the same money they would by replacing the tank. IF you are going to replace the radiator, I would suggest you buy online or locally. There are a LOT of places that sell radiators anymore and if you can install it yourself, it would be a LOT cheaper than having a dealer do it. Toyota dealer who's given me great service last 2 years, ordered aftermarket radiator for $100 less than Lexus original equipment unit. After 2 Lexus radiator failures in the past 5 years, I think it was a good decision. Replacement radiaor will come with same warantee as the Lexus unit option.
  21. Now facing a 2nd radiator replacement w/ my 2004 RX330. Leaking coolant from Radiator body at top and from upper plumbing pipes. Is this a weakness with this model? Also, planning service at a Toyota dealer and wonder if Toyota (2004 Highlander) radiator can fit in place of a Lexus replacement. Don't imagine that radiators are being repaired these days or are they? vs. buying a new radiator.
  22. My 2004 RX 330 (45,000 miles) runs great with regular 5W-30 oil and regular changes at 3,000 miles. With so many good reports on Synthetic oil , I may change to a Synthetic oil like Mobil 1 on the next oil change and keep the vehicle using a synthetic oil for the future. Has any one done this and are there any advantages besides longer change intervals. I know the cost per quart will be considerably higher.
