  1. Did you finish your installation already? I just saw this post now. Here are the installation items for my 2000 ES300 (with factory amp), I think Metra makes the harness you need. List of items I used: - Scosche LS2081B (Double DIN Installation Kit for Select 1997-2003 Lexus ES300) - Metra 70-8113 (LEXUS ES300 1999-2001 AMP BY-PASS) And the following items (from Crutchfield): - PAC SNI-1 RCA Ground Loop Noise Isolator (x2) - these helped only a little - American International S15A 15-amp/250-watt Noise Filter - eliminated 90% of the audio buzz - American International AS100 Noise Filter for Motorola Antenna - 1 day subscription here for splice locations for Vehicle speed sensor wire, parking brake wire: https://techinfo.toyota.com
  2. Hello - yes, navigation was not an option on the ES until 2002. However, the Toyota navigation system manufactured by Denso fits and integrates just fine with your '99. Check here for more info: http://www.oemvalue.com/request/toyotanav.htm However, if you want to save some money vs. OEM Toyota, I would recommend the Eclipse AVN-5510. It looks like an OEM system, and the touchscreen interface is identical to OEM (compared menu screen by menu screen with stock '03 system owned by my in-laws). Here is the link to my install in our 2000 ES300: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...mp;#entry249244 Also, I am not sure the OEM system has ipod/bluetooth/HD radio add on capability like the systems available from Eclipse. I installed the Eclipse system myself in one afternoon. It's not clear to me the relationship between Fujitsu Ten and Denso - but their nav systems look and operate nearly identical. Also, from what I've seen, the input connectors on the Fuji10 and Denso systems are identical. Some sources say Fujitsu Ten is Lexus's nav system supplier, but the Lexus nav systems clearly say Denso on the back of them. Other sources said Fujitsu Ten actually supplies Denso for integration, and also sells directly via their Eclipse product line. For reference, here is what the Toyota/Lexus stock OEM navigation system will look like in your ES: Here are some images of our widescreen Eclipse AVN for comparison: It looks OEM and the button illumination even matches the climate control's and the actual screen is larger than OEM. My wife relies on the navigation system frequently, and her ipod is always hooked up - it all works really well. I purchased my system here: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9027_-...se+AVN5510.html at $899 it's a great deal (I paid quite a bit more back in June '07) anyway... Also, another ES300 member has installed a pioneer AVIC system that looks pretty nice too. hope this information helps! To put an OEM NAV system in a car that came without this feature originally is NOT advisable, due to the fact that it would require extensive rewiring, ie: new wiring harnesses, new dashboard, etc. A super expensive modification! As said in the FAQ section on the Lexus.com website: A portable GPS unit would be your best bet. :)
  3. TIS diagram for a 2000 ES300 showing relay locations, should be the same for a '98. relayloc.pdf Hope this helps relayloc.pdf
  4. Yes, glove box changer still installed but not working with the AVN-5510. Eclipse support indicated that the stock changer is not compatible with the AVN.
  5. I finished my Eclipse AVN 5510 installation yesterday in my wifes 2000 ES300 - everything works as advertised, so far it's great. Looks like it could easily be OEM, the illumination color on the panel buttons match the climate control buttons. The iPod control interface is really nice too. Items with part numbers that I used in this install: - Eclipse AVN 5510 - Eclipse Eclipse iPC-106 (iPod Control Interface for Eclipse iPod Ready Stereos) - Scosche LS2081B (Double DIN Installation Kit for Select 1997-2003 Lexus ES300) - Metra 70-8113 (LEXUS ES300 1999-2001 AMP BY-PASS) Added the following items (from Crutchfield): - PAC SNI-1 RCA Ground Loop Noise Isolator (x2) - these helped only a little - American International S15A 15-amp/250-watt Noise Filter - eliminated 90% of the audio buzz - American International AS100 Noise Filter for Motorola Antenna - 1 day subscription here for splice locations for Vehicle speed sensor wire, parking brake wire: https://techinfo.toyota.com Installation was not too difficult. It's a tight fit as there is a HUGE pile of wires that go behind the system along with the noise filters. The VSS and parking brake wires were tough for me to get to, may be easier with the drivers seat removed. Here are a few more images: Main menu: System off:
  6. Everything is working great now - highly recommend Eclipse AVN 5510 for OEM look + functionality. The iPod control interface is really nice too. Added the following items (from Crutchfield): - PAC SNI-1 RCA Ground Loop Noise Isolator (x2) - these helped only a little - American International S15A 15-amp/250-watt Noise Filter - eliminated 90% of the audio buzz - American International AS100 Noise Filter for Motorola Antenna - 1 day subscription here for splice locations for Vehicle speed sensor wire, parking brake wire: https://techinfo.toyota.com The VSS and PB wire taps were a pain, but the parking brake enables many features - I may tap another wire that would allow access to locked out functions while the car is moving (in lieu of the PB wire).
  7. Thanks for the info - confirms what we thought. We'll check out an '07 model with the v6.1 disc to see if they have added coverage.
  8. Installed an AVN-5510 last night - that's the good news. The bad news...system not real usable just yet. I am working the following issues: - very loud constant audio buzz: looking into ground loop isolators for power line in, preamp line out and antenna input - GPS not working: antenna installed temporarily under the dash and is not getting a usable signal(s), VSS wire is not hooked up yet either - iPod interface: not able to see more than 8 songs in any playlist, not sure what's wrong... - car battery dead this morning: may be related to all the testing done last night, this is the original seven year old battery and it has been acting up prior to this install Here are a few images: I used the Scosche kit with a Metra harness and added the iPod interface: Here's the old setup with a Garmin iQue, and a partially functional Dension IceLink (and some trash on the floor):
  9. Background - this is a long posting, sorry... In-laws have an '04 ES330 with navigation - I do not know the version of their DVD disc, but it is the original that came with the car. Problem: they reside and travel frequently outside the 'detailed coverage' area in their home state of WI. Whenever they use their system, the "voice" tells them that guidance is not available and they need to proceed to the highlighted route to begin guidance. Sometimes the highlighted route is quite a distance away, or in the wrong direction. They have expressed their frustration with the system to the dealer, and to my wife and I. This last week I experienced the lack of guidance firsthand, and tried some troubleshooting while on vacation with them in northern MN. Can those familiar with the Lexus OEM nav systems comment on the following that we experience when using their OEM navigation system: - If you begin your trip from a location that is not in a detailed coverage area, the navigation system will not give you audio guidance until you reach the route it has planned for you. So, you have to find your way to the beginning of the route it has planned for you - hopefully you have a co-pilot to read the screen while you are driving. Sometimes the beginning of the planned route is not in area of the map displayed after it has calculated a route - which only adds to the confusion. - If you begin your trip, or have a destination that is not in a detailed coverage area, the calculated route will only plan a route that consists of Interstates, US Hwys or State Hwys. You must find your way to the highlighted blue route to begin guidance. - There is no county road or city road audio guidance available in the non-detailed coverage area, even though the correct map and current location information is being displayed as you drive Questions: - does the newer DVD increase the covered area? - is their navigation system defective? - what are their options for a navigation system that will provide guidance in the non-detailed coverage areas? Needless to say, this $2K option has not been helpful AT ALL for about 90% of the trips they take. Thanks for any comments...
  10. So after all the questions...I ended up getting a good deal on an Eclipse AVN-5510 and ipod interface. I'll check back with pictures and comments when installed. With the harness it should be straightforward, I just may need more detailed information on the exact location of the VSS wire. Thanks! Scosche doesn't make a harness for it.. at least not when I called them. I can't confirm whether the audio system in the '00 ES300 is the same as my '99. I used this wire harness: http://cgi.ebay.com/92-99-LEXUS-ES300-TOYO...1QQcmdZViewItem I didn't completely get rid of the problem. I installed ground loop isolators, which got rid of the 90% of the noise. It's fine for now until I have time to work on it after finals are over. GPS Antenna: There's a magnet on my GPS Antenna, which I have attached to a metal cross beam behind the dash. VSS Wire: purple/white cruise control module Notes: The cruise control module is under the driver side dash. Reverse Wire: red/black in the driver side harness to the rear (Not necessary unless you plan on installing a backup cam) Getting close to starting this project on our ES300. Novice question - where did you get your ground loop isolators?

  12. Thanks for the harness info, so I think that my shopping list (along with the D3) is: - Scosche double DIN ES300 install kit P/N LS2081B - Scosche P/N TA02B / TA03B integration wiring harness (or Metra 70-8113 ES300 intragation wiring harness) We have a '00 ES300 and I didn't see an ebay kit. Remaining questions... - Is the VSS wire integrated into the harness - and where is it located? - other wires that need to be tapped into? - GPS sensor location - back deck or front dash? tips for routing the wire for this? - I'll check AVIC411 again, but I thought I saw that you had an issue with engine noise - resolved yet? you just left the antenna unhooked? Thanks for any additional help! For the wire harness, you can search on eBay for "ES300 wire harness." Just get the the one for your year and make sure it has RCA connectors. These will plug into the pre-amp outputs on your head unit. I didn't have to rewire anything or splice into the factory harness. The people at Best Buy and Circuit City are useless. I asked them the same question and they said I had to rewire the speakers and get a new amp and sub.
  13. Installation looks great! This gives me some inspiration to continue looking into upgrading my wife's '00 ES300. Do you have any more specific info on how you were able to integrate into the stock system - did you use any wiring adapters or did you have to cut into the factory harness? One retailer told me that they do not install the Pioneers in ES300's without a complete rewire/speaker install/amp install and now I know for sure that is not necessary with the D3. thanks for any extra info...!
