  1. It seems it should not be too hard. Do you have the switch? Do you know where it goes? Well that should give you a fair indication of how hard it will be. I will look at my 91 and see though.
  2. WD-40?:-D When you are done, maybe rinse it with fresh tranny fluid.
  3. Ok so far? Well, my check engine light is not on, but the ABS and Trac lights are. So I go to check by using the procedures suggested for my model year and this time the check engine light does not flash like it should in this jumpered state (short flashes with .5 second pause between each set of flashes) so I am confused. What does that mean? I have done this before, with the procedures I printed out and got code 41 (TPS-- according to the printout... please verify?), but this time it just keeps on flashing fast -- more than one flash each second. Anyone has a clue what this means -- cause I don't? I am thinking it is saying no code has been detected, but the instructions I have says nothing about this type of feedback. thanks
  4. Welcome. No better place on/in the web for Lexus owners. enjoy:-)

    Wow!

Sure, you get nuff neck-breaking horse power and that is a good thing. But what is the negatives about a super charger? Without thinking, fuel mileage come to mind. But what else -- if any?
  6. Not a problem -- I don't think. I do it too. I just hate to see a problem unresolved. Heck, I do it so much that at one time I was thinking I would certainly get a cease and desist pm from the mods -- never happend though. Anyway, I did not know they would still activate these phones. I just put the phone back into my 91 -- for emergency calls, ONLY. I was on my way to work one AM and I saw a guy go off in the ditch. I called 911 on my not-in-car mobile and left it at that. A few weeks later, I get a bill on which they charged me nearly 2 bucks for that call -- I can't recall exactly how much, then it dawned on me that I should not have to pay to be a good semaritan... so I put the analog phone back into the vehicle.
  7. The price is in-line with what Auto Zone wants. I checked last Friday. Only difference is the core charge is $169.00
  8. Here is the seal kit you mention. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/gallery/LS/seal_kit It will certainly be the cheaper route... but other than that, what is the benefit? Don't I still have to take off the the rack? How long will this fix last?
  9. Hey, this thing might have dust in there preventing it from sliding into the designed playing position. So it might be a good idea to give it a proper cleaning/dusting off one day over the weekend. It is a good thing when these things work after an easy fix. One of the most memorable memories with my LS involves this part. I know the feeling. My situation was an err message when I try to play a CD. I would check and read the directions telling how to insert the CD. It turned out the directions on the changer is wrong -- so instead of putting the disk in with the label up, I needed to put it with the label down. Oh was I happy... so yea -- I know your excitement, I have been there. Keep us abreast of this, if it continues to work or not.:-D
  10. Thanks everyone -- and yes, you pegged it correctly in that picture. It seeps out from under that black rubber covering, or whatever it is. I will check around today and tomorrow to see what the price for this repair will be. Not good indeed, but I comfort myself with the words, "it could have been worse." I am not sure how long I have had the car, maybe a year -- I think, and it has been good to me. So this little cry for attention is cool. Thanks again. Thanks for the document -- looking over it now.
  11. For those who don't know, it started here. I changed the solenoid screen there -- it needed it badly too, as the pictures there should tell. I also flushed the fluid, and then today I checked the fluid level as I was about to flush it again and when I checked -- it was low again... so I went to work to find where this culpret was sneaking out from, and I did. I removed the front wheel for better access to the solenoid and the steering mechanism. I disconnected the solenoid switch, then removed the solenoid again to check that it was still clean. It was. I took my rag and whiped down everything around the solenoid and the steering mechanism and screwed it into the rack and connected the wire/plug, then re-filled the power steering fluid with dextron type fluid. With the car still on the jack, and the front wheel removed -- I started the vehicle and turned the wheel to the left, then to the right, and to the left, and so on a few times. I exited the vehicle and began looking. Nothing happend for a while, but then all of a sudden -- I could see the blood red fluid sliding out from under that black hat-like rubber thing above the solenoid, as if someone wearing a black hat had just been hit in the head with some blunt object and had began to bleed. It was not a pleasant sight. It was not a pleasant experience. In fact, it is down right scary because of the uncertainty right now. So here goes -- what next? I tried to give as much detail as possible, but if you need more, just ask. thanks in advance. :(
  12. Thanks... In reality, that 1.5 weeks is not a long time, but it will sure seem like it with that light on and that empty space in the wheel. I will look into it -- I want that wood in the wheel. I have to get that ABS and Trac light issue fixed first though -- Winter is coming.
  13. What do you use while your wheel is being worked on? I was thinking that they sent out a replacement... silly me, right?:-) How long did it take them to do it? And yes -- they are pricey especially if you get the wood added to it, my intention.
  14. Very interesting. But what does the manul suggests for this? I will check when I get next to my manual -- but for now, is anyone aware? Did I miss the part where this does not affect the 91LS and as such removes the need to do it? I am on a roll this month -- so if it is needed I will do it. Just did the Oil, the pwr steering, the tranny. So if the diffy needs to be done, then what the heck -- right? Then I can just do them at oil change since I have found it to be so easy now.
  15. Go here for another link as well: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...howtopic=11631&
  16. Southfield is nice -- especially if you work in the city too. Traffic is horrible on Southfield road, which runs into and becomes the freeway. That is my only complaint. They pick up the garbage, and the schools are ok so you should enjoy it. Ofcourse, you can find other cities around it, so check around and find the best option for you and the family. Best to you.:-)
  17. Well, update follows. I did the solenoid cleaning and yes -- it was filthy. Here is an image of the solenoid screen. You can see the dirt. Hey, thanks to the powers that be for the image resource -- it is a great asset to this community. Here is a cleaned screen -- all shiney and new. The hardest part about doing this work is the seperating of the electrical connectors. Be sure to do that first, or the wires will really get twisted as you unscrew the solenoid -- not a big deal really, but prevention is better than cure. Well -- I hope this helps... I have to wait now and see if there is still fluid loss, but I am keeping my fingers crossed :) Anyway, I cannot say it enough -- THANKS! THANKS! THANKS! Now for part two: -- if anyone can find that power steering flush instruction for me and post it here, I would be really grateful. I did a search for power steering flush and all I get is my post -- HELP. weird..... Did I say thanks?
  18. Yeah -- I like the clean look as well. kazools400, I have the same color as your LS (well mine is a 91 and looks better :-D) and I would love to get rid of that badge but besides welding and repainting, I have found no way of filling those holes. I am a real freak for the clean, symetric look -- one of the reasons I HATE the antenna on the left hand side.
  19. How difficult is it to replace the seals? I saw some images in gallery of the seals package... so I am aware of that option. Anyway, I will try that cleaning/flushing option first.
  20. Ok... thanks. I will try that later today and let you know. Keeping fingers crossed. :-D
  21. Well, the good news first -- knowing how we all get sometimes. I got Sirius sattelite radio -- love it and say get it if you can, especially if you drive more than 25 minutes to work. I drive 35 minutes one way and going to and from work is the reward every single day. View my installation: I think this is the best fit and requires no drilling, it uses existing screw behing air vent. Here it is. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/gallery/LS/DSCF0012 and again: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/gallery/LS/DSCF0013 And now for the bad news...................................................................... My power steering "something" is leaking. I am adding fluid once a week and it leaks onto something hot so at stop light I see smoke from fluid buring off. It is embarrassing, to say the least. Go here to see it leaking out of the black rubber thingie at the top of the steering thingie. Here is one more that shows it on the rubber. This is a more complete view that shows the leak. All the fluid is concentrated on that side of the vehicle. Nothing else is on the right side of the vehicle. Hey, thanks in advance for your suggestions. If you need more info -- ask, I am always here. :D
  22. So does that mean 18s won't fit normally? Or did you get the wrong type of wheels for the LS? I have 16s now and would love the 18s but so far I have not really found anything besides stock that I like.
  23. Good stuff! All very good stuff! I am taking notes. I will start doing that tranny drain from now on. I just started putting Mobil 1 in and it seems things are getting better already. I will do the tranny tonight -- or I will try to. I imagine I might need new plugs and wires, so I will add that to the to-do list as well. Maybe I will get close to that 27 MPG mark.:-) Oh well. Thanks... it has all been worth it. On that offended piece -- never mind. I am just being careful. You just never know now-a-days what will offend. So I generally tread lightly, almost to the point of being paranoid, until I get to know the limitations. So we are good... it was just me trying to be careful. Again -- thanks.;-)
  24. Thanks for a good reply dude... I was hoping you would not take offence to that last post -- you did not and that is just cool. Gotta hand it to yah! You are full of information. You must be psychic or something because that is exactly where my excitement begins, 2500 RPM and some. Not much higher than that as the coppers are always on I75 in MI it seems. Anyway, thanks for the info -- really good stuff. Now, about that 28MPG you claim, how you do that? I am averaging between 17-21 MPG between city and highway speed.
