  1. http://motors.search-desc.ebay.com/ls400_K...rchedZ2QQsotrZ2 currently there are a few listings on eBay! good luck bidding!
  2. I bought one from eBay for $18. I programed it myself, and it works like charm: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=9825& 96 should be the same programing procedure as 97.
  3. glad to see my old post did help someone a year later! unfortunately, the 94 LS was totaled about 6-month ago, but I did 'upgrade' to 97 LS<_<.... I won't claim credit for it because I recalled I just followed some good leads from other good write-ups before me.
  4. gen1 (90~94) & gen2 (95~97) are all non-interference engine. gen3 (98+) are VVTi which is an interference type to get more horse power. 90~96 is recommended to change TB at 90K, but for 97 and up, lexus factory recommends 120K or 7-year whichever comes first.
  5. never, never a mercedes for me again, not over my dead body! in late 90's, I used to own a 88 420sel, spend over $8K in repair over 3-years period, still could't get it to run right, and it spent more time in the shop than on the road during my ownership. just sold my 93 400sel about couple month sago, couldn't be happier to get rid of that 'junk' which was more or less the same stories with the 88 model. what a relieve that I am finally mercedes-free!
  6. well, be aware that this might be 'copies' off the original. couple of months back, I bought a set for my 97LS4 off eBay at $99. they turned out to be photo-copies, and more than likely pirated. but if you don't mind that.....
  7. 97 w/100k in that price range doesn't come by very often! congrat on the great buy. however, do drive it to dealler for a complete check, and do make sure there was no salvage/flood title/major accident recorded in the car history.
  8. there are also 2 min. mounting holes behind the emblem. you must find a good way to make them 'disappear' if you wish to take off the emblem permanently.
  9. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...sspagename=WDVW well, try ebay. if auction ends, do email seller to relist.
  10. VMF, thanks for the correction, u r the best! ;) please do call me Chong or CW....
  11. VMF, I have done a new post as you suggested: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...howtopic=11775& please do consider to pin it, and feel free to edit contents or title as u see fit! thanks a lot!
  12. per moderator VMF's suggestion, and for the bennefit of future-to-be LS400 owners, here are a complied lists of buying guides and some recent discussions regarding buying used LS400 for your pre-purchase considerations. credit to LOC member 'lextreme': Buying a Lexus LS400 1990-1994 credit to LOC member 'wandawoods': Used LS400 Buyer Guide for Layman by Layman credit to the effort of LOC member 'IUZ-FE': New To Lexus And Forum - What year LS 400 should I purchase? Need Suggestions - wanna buy a 90 LS400 1992 Ls400 Questions I Need Some Advice Buying Ls400 Looking To Buy 1992 Ls 400 - 1992 v. 1994 Looking To Buy Ls400 How Long Can A 91 Ls400 Go? Considering 1991 Ls400 Purchase Considering A Purchase - High mile LS400 it is suggested that members, registered or not, seeking pre-purchase advices 'print' out any useful infomation you are looking for because these guides/threads may or may not be upkept forever by their web site adminitrators.
  13. 1UZ-FE, folks may not say it outright, but of course, your effort is wholeheartedly appreciated by many! I do think it's a good ideal to pin it because these pre-purchase advise seeking, a smart move by any buyer I might add, are just keep coming up....
  14. Lextreme also have some great info about Bying 1990~1994 LS400: http://www.lextreme.com/lsbuy.html
  15. for a while, havn't brought up this guide I did sometime way back, maybe it can help a bit: Used LS400 Buyer Guide for Layman by Layman you may want to print it out because I am not sure how long I will keep it on my business web site.
  16. as monarch has stated, Type T-II has long been discountinued and replaced by Type T-IV which, of course, is backward compatible.
  17. Hi folks, is there any after-market clear headlight lenses available for 97 LS4? I will like change the 'frosty' looks to 'crystal clear' type, just like 98~00 Gen III models.
  18. but according to acf, this purticular dealer is 'claiming igorance' meaning they say they didn't know a 'salvaged' title was issued in the history, therefore they did not knowingly sell him a salvaged car without disclosure. it will be pretty difficult for acf to prove otherwise.
  19. in fact, that may be a 'good' news. at least we now know it was not really in sever accident or got flooded, either can be a mechanical disaster. 'stolen' car could have only minor or cosmetic damages. keep all the paper works or proofs of 'stolen' car you can dig up with. as long as the title is 'clean' and lawful now, and the car is actually in good mechanical condition, I think you still have a good chance to sell it at 'normal' price or slightly lower. hope this makes you feel better.... good luck!
  20. Hmmm....this kind of law can vary from state to state. at least I have not heard of this in GA. other than Odometer disclosure, seller really doesnt have to say anything about the car. well, does CarFax indicate any salvaged title was issued? sorry to say this could be an 'impossible' situation to overcome. however, there are lots of buyers don't really bother to check the car history (I guess you were one of the examples) or just don't know how. the only hope is that you may run into one of them. I am not saying you have to lie, but you can at least honestly state to your potential buyer that there are no accidents occured in your possesion. bring your car to a body shop for them to check it out. they should know where the major damages were, and any evidence of frame damages. at least u need to know the whole picture.
  21. VVTi is interferance engine, broken timing belt will have 'bent valves' which is a $3K~$4K damage.
  22. oh, NO! u need the job alright. from what I heard, it's easily an $1K~$2K job if done by shop. has the engine ever overheated due to the coolant situation? what's the maintenance history of this car? 145K just 'middle-age' for LS, it's really a pitty that it needs head gasket/valve job already.....
  23. valve stem seal and head gasket usually don't need to be changed unless the car has very poor upkeeps and burns engine oil (blue smoke) or engine has been subject to abnomal high temp. due to cooling system failure.
  24. there are some after-market center caps with key lock. both my SC4 and LS4 have them on.
  25. sounds like I was *unfortunately' right about the ECU thing... yep, the first thing I did when I got my 97 LS4 is to make a spare master key with transpondent. it costed me about $100 at dealer. but it's much better than $500 to reprogram the ECU if I ever lost it!
