  1. My ES has 240,000 miles (385,000 kms) on it. My only major repair was when the ride started getting rough so I replaced all 4 struts & links and it rides like it was new again.
  2. Any luck finding a fix? I read on another site that when a battery is replaced in the IS, a security code needs to be entered in order to get the radio to work again.
  3. Sounds like it could be a bad ground. Try Cleaning your battery ground terminal wire with a wire brush and tighten down hard. Make sure you clean off all the grease as well. Cheers,
  4. I had the same problem with oil dripping on my garage floor from with my '00 ES300 and dealer recommended I change the main seal. Then I discovered that the dealer had been overfilling the engine oil. The oil level was about 3 inches above the full mark on the oil dipstick. I mentioned this to the dealer on the next oil change and I noticed the oil was filled to the full mark. I noticed there were no more drops of oil on my garage floor. I thought I was losing my mind but it has been about 3 months since the oil change and there has not been a single drop of oil on the floor. The dealer does not mention the oil seal any more (andthey also do not admit to overfilling the oil!). Just thought I'd share my experience with you...
  5. I had the same problem with the screw. Luckily, a mechanic down the street from my house gave me a used screw from a pile of old throttle bodies/IAC valves that he has been replacing on vehicles that have the same cold-idle problems!!! Your instructions saved me a bundle of $$$$$!!! When I finished cleaning out my IAC and got it back together, it worked better than ever. Now I give myself whiplash every time I step on the gas :) Is it normal to experience stronger acceleration from a stop? or has the throttle body just been way overdue for a cleaning for a very very long time? Many thanks!
  6. How did you resolve this problem with excessive brake wear? I am having the same problem with my rear brakes on my '00 ES300. Replaced rear pads in Sept 2011 then again a month later along with both rear callipers. Now they are grinding again. Any suggestions?
  7. just try to top it of whit brake fluid up to max,if consistant it might be a problem whit your emergency brakes.. The rear pads/rotors were completely worn and the emergency brake pads were also worn and the cable was seized. All the pads, rotors, and cable were replaced and the brake fluid topped up. The brake light has not come on since. What a difference in the braking too! Thanks for the tip.
  8. I am having the same problem with my brake light coming on and the brake fluid reservoir is on full and looks clean. Any other ideas on what to check would be appreciated. Thanks, Paul
  9. My '02 RX300 had the same vibration over 35MPH then jusy yesterday, the whole vehicle shook so I pulled over and looked under...the front drive shaft was hanging on the ground. It was broken at the u-joint where it connected to the intermediate shaft. The break caused damage to the front differential and the Toyota dealer wants to replace the entire front diff and entire drive shaft right to the rear diff for a cost of $5500. The dealer says he's seen it happen on Sienna's (they use the same drive shaft). IS this a known problem that should have been re-called or at least a tech bulletin sent to RX owners? - Broken & Confused
  10. I ended up replacing the lower steering shaft and the wheel turns easily now. The lower steering shaft is about 12" long with a universal joint in the middle of the shaft. It is below the steering wheel and goes through the floor/firewall. Mylexusparts.com has them for $200. Thanks for all your suggestions. Cheers, Paul
  11. Anyone ever try installing an electronic rust-proofing device in their Lexus? It can be installed by some dealers and this one by Canadian Tire: Canadian Tire CounterAct Electronic Rust Protection Obviously, your car wouldn't get any lubrication from it, but does it work better than the traditional spray-on rust proofing? Thanks, Paul
  12. The steering on my '02 RX300 is heavy in both directions. I need to use a lot of force to turn the wheel (not easy with 1 or 2 fingers as I would expect). The dealer took a look and told me I need to replace the "lower steering shaft" ($600) because it is starting to seize from the rust. Is this the same thing as the rack? Also, Is the steering on this vehicle servicable (grease, bushings, etc.) or am I stuck having to replace the entire steering shaft or rack with a new one? Thanks in advance for your reply. - Paul
  13. Replacing the Spark Knock sensor fixed the problem. I'm glad I took your advice instead of doing all the things the dealer wanted me to do. Thanks for your help :) Cheers, Paul
  14. My 2000 ES300 will rarely shift into O/D. The engine light is on but I'm not sure if it is related to the transmission. The Lexus dealer checked the codes which indicated a spark-knock sensor had failed but they did know for sure if replacing the spark-knock sensor would fix the O/D problem. Has anyone out there experienced a problem with their O/D? Any tips would be appreciated. Cheers, Paul
