  1. What the #!@# does that mean? Different mechanic? Explanation I got was that the lines were collapsing due to age and not allowing fluid to release or drain back into the lines after brakes are used. Of course, that could just be my interpretation of what he said. Used this mechanic for years and not a "certified" mechanic but seems to always have alot of good sense. Thoughts? And thanks for the reply
  2. Replaced right caliper 20K/2 years ago then replaced left 2 months ago and mechanic said brake lines not holding up and preventing caliper from releasing. Planned to replace line on right side and low and behold, it is sticking. Replaced line but still collecting brake dust but not as bad as when caliper required R&R. Thoughts on next steps? Thinking of taking off caliper and expanding and contracting a few times to loosen up cylinder? Not too excited about replacing again.
  3. Thanks for your help. Perhaps start watching on eBay. I think I can live with it for that money. Nice feature however!
  4. My 97 SC300 has a huge blotch in the middle of the drivers side mirror when it tints for night time driving. Anyone have suggestions on how to resolve? When first noticed it, very annoying but have gotten used to it. Suspect not worth the trouble but if there is a reasonable fix, I am all eyes and ears!!! Thx
  5. I have a '97 with a big blotch in the middle that does not dim. Used to it now but at first, very strange. Anyone know what causes it and fix???
  6. Worry not. All is OK It may even be that the 'missing' is a rev. limiter. [i don't know if the SC300 has one, though.] Good luck with your new purchase! Thanks for responses.....drove a '65 Mustang in HS with 289 4 speed that I don't believe came close to generating same torque.
  7. I red-lined second gear and car start missing. It was early on a Saturday and wanted to give newer BMW some attitude (back). It was hard to see tach because of sun and guage not well but really had eyes on BMW. Bought car Dec 31 so still getting used to it. VERY surprised I red-lined so quickly...hats off SC300. I had this terrible sick feeling after I did it. I have been driving sticks for years and ALWAYS stayed away from the red line. Car just started missing when hit the red so immediately backed off. I am now babying it, smelling, watching temp guage, waiting for a vibration from engine but nothing so far. It is a well maintained '97 SC300 with 90K. Thinking of driving from Philly to Indy to celebrate with old friends to watch Super Bowl. Opinions?
  8. Thanks for your input. My mechanic has been maintaining car for years and clutch has never been replaced. Actually saw car in his garage about 6 months ago and said if owner ever sells let me know...so here I am. It HAS been a pleasure to drive so far and very pleased. Did you end up putting in factory clutch? I have seen alot of opinions on which to put in but seem focused around performance which I don't care so much about. I have had several sports cars and currently have a 914 porsche that I have had for many years. The only thing I think could be improved is cornering and guessing that is part of trade off for what is a very smooth ride? Finally, how do you get picture of car in your profile? Pictures I took were too big. Guessing I need to take another at a lower definition? Mine is dark green with spoiler and looks alot like yours. Tom
  9. I just bought a 97 SC300 5 speed with 90K that is in great shape and loving it. When cold, and it has been below normal for Philly in January, it is hard to get into first and second. I would say hard but certainly not impossible. It grinds a little but not bad. After car warms up, seems ok but have to push clutch practically to the floor but clutch still seems tight. My mechanic thinks it will need new clutch in not too distant future. Talked to auto parts counter person who has Toyota 5 speed and said they can get air in the lines sometimes and might make sense to bleed the line. Thoughts? Is this normal for SC300 5 speed? Thx...
