I'v got identical problems and so far i have found this I cleaned my air system, bought new air filter, added alot of fuel injector cleaner and that got a little better. My idle is caused by low RPM when completely stopped on "DRIVE" - i'v got about 400-600RPM when normal is 800-1000. Now my next suggestion will be to check your Throttle Position Sensor readings from your local mechanic as that seems to be the problem for me as well. On the shaking part i have changed the following: Right inner tie rod, U-Joint, Ball joints and an alignment after all that and now the car is smooth like never again with no shaking what so ever

U-Joint needs to be replaced because it gives me knocking sounds to my steering wheel. I called Lexus and they said its a part of drive shaft and it costs $899 - WOW. Are these joints sold separately? Would anyone know where? I cant find anything on google TIA

JFYI Been to 2 shops yesterday. Both of them were not able to find anything wrong with suspension. One stated "Everything is so tight in here, almost feels like it was filled with cement", but problem still exists. I will definitely let them know about your recommendations and about bolts on the front Thanks!

My '98 GS400 has "finger" knocking noises when fueling with 91, it disappears when i put in 94 from Sunoco

Awful feeling when my '98 GS400 goes over a small curb with both wheels straight. As soon as wheels hit the curb something in the front shakes and i can feel everything in steering wheel as it shakes too. Changed lower ball joints yesterday and changed right tie rod about 3 month ago. haven't done alignment thou after these changes thou but i did it shortly before. Anyone else had this steering wheel knocking sounds before?

'98 GS400 - 235KM(~146 miles) on highway close to GTA.

This has been happening for 2 days now. I disconnect my battery before i head to bed because alarm goes off by itself in the middle of the night. I hope to have this repaired today. So i started my car yesterday and shifted on "D" RPM went slowly from 1 to 0 and car shuts down and check engine comes on. Went to local mechanic and his computer showed that its the speed sensor. Car shuts off randomly. I have '98 GS400. Anyone else ever had this problem? What else could be wrong?

Had my front repaired not so long ago after an accident i wonder if that has something to do with it. Alarm goes off randomly and during the nights as well. Yesterday when i stopped to have lunch the alarm went off 3 times. I had to disconnect the battery. Have anyone had this problem? Is there a sensitivity control in this car that i can change?

Replace the neg. ground cable from your battery to the frame. It is shorting out from corrosion. But why would battery light come on while I'm driving when power is supplied from generator ? Double check all the connections. The cables could have breaks in them under the insulation. The problem was in alternator Thanks all

Replaced battery twice under warranty. It was raining yesterday so had to turn on the wipers & music. Was looking for parking and stopped completely (still on D) and the battery light came on. Windows would slowly roll down, wipers would work half of speed. I started speeding up and everything went normal, stopped - same thing. Battery lasts 15 min when car is off and music is playing. Mechanics say everything seems to be ok - generator provides power and charges battery. Any ideas?

3 month ago on my way to work i rear ended a guy on the highway. His bumper and rear right hand side light had to be replaced and my whole front had to be replaced except for the right lights assembly. In the matter of seconds 2 tow trucks showed up and started telling the Honda guy stories about his damaged tank and differentials and frame bla bla - unfortunately the guy had no clue about cars what so ever and he believed them. I had no choice - i had to be at work by 11:30 for major presentation and i took the tow truck guys offer. The offer was: you take your car to our shop and we take care of your deductibles, tow truck fee's and collision center car release fee. Since this is my first time in situation like this i can pretty much say i was in the same boat with the guy that i hit. My car was towed to the reporting center. Tow truck driver told me to refuse taking my car to insurance preferred center and not to call insurance for claim - everything will be done by their shop. Time was pushing me and i did whatever i was told so i can quickly get a rental and go to that stupid presentation. Stupid me. I was given a rental and insurance covered $1000 dollars worth of it. It took them 2 month to get my car repaired. Mechanic promised to pay the rental difference after my $1000 ran out. I picked up my car and left rental at the shop. 5 days later a charge on my credit card shows up: $1,400 worth of rental. Shop refuses to pay, insurance cant do anything because its not their preferred shop. A couple days later i discover that my AC doesnt work any more, my battery dies extremely fast, plastic protection underneath hasn't been replaced. Its not my fault it took them 2 month to get my car fixed. The mechanic could have said that he will not pay the rent and i would have taken my parents car to work. But it is my fault that i wanted to believe every single word those idiots told me. A friendly advise to everyone - deal with insurance preferred shops, do not sign any papers before you are about to pickup your can unless everything has been paid for (rental) and before you pickup your car, request copy of appraisal and see if everything has been replaced. Bottom line is, i ended up with $1,400 credit card bill to pay for rental, and lots of broken parts in my car.

Hello all, I have Lexus 98' GS400 and for the past 3 month i had problems with my turn signal lights. It only happens with front turn bulbs. The back signal flashes very fast and the front one doesn't work (on the same side) whereas the left signal flashes with regular speed. I asked my mechanic to repair it once, he took the light bulb out and than put it back in again and it worked for some time. I assume something is wrong with contacts. How can i fix my light temporarily? Will be doing 1k highway kilometers today at night and i dont want to drive without signal light TIA
