Gryphon, I would agree with denslexusGX470 but if I may give you a suggestion, give your vehicle some time. Drive it and get a feel for it. I just purchased my 2006 GX470 and at first it was perfect (in my point of view it still is) but gradually the "clunk" developed. I've got less then 900KM on the vehicle and I can hear and feel the "clunk" here and there. Check to see when the vehicle was manufactured. Even though mine is a 2006 it was manufactured at the end of 2005. So unfortunately I do not think that my vehicle came with the new parts...I'm not sure yet. I'm still trying to get that information from the dealership...something tells me that I don't have the new parts.

Hi Dr. Gee, I made an mp3 CD and tried it on the GX and the answer to your question is no, you can not play mp3 on a 2006 GX. I too made a regular music CD using CD-R Maxell and it does play it. Even though on the changer it says that you would not be able to play such CD's. It's a shame; I have a 1995 volvo which also has a CD changer. I tried playing an mp3 there as well and no it does not work...but that's reasonable because it's a 1995...but just thought that it might work. Well just thought I'd let you know.

Another Failure In The Rear Suspension Height Sensor
Nica replied to smaislin's topic in 03 - 09 Lexus GX470
Not to change the topic, but I've noticed that my vehicle when I park it and turn it off it lowers it's self? Is that normal? I haven't played with the height adjustment to much...but I'm not sure if it's supposed to do that at all on its own. The height that it resets it's self seems to be the normal height. I currently have the height adjustment set at "N". Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the vehicle was supposed to lower it's self depending on the speed. Example, if you’re on a highway doing about 100KM/Hr the car is supposed to lower it's self. Like I said not sure if this is true...and when your speed changes to say 50KM/Hr the vehicle goes back to its normal height. Well just asking. Fortunately, I haven't had any problem such as yours smaislin. -
Hi, I too was thinking of a nice pair of rims, but my concerns is that the car will become to "flashy". The car by it's self gets lots of attention and my thought is that with a change of rims that it would look to...what's the word....um...pimp looking. I'm quite contenct with the factory rims, but I do admit that rims change the look of the vehicle.

Dr. Gee, You mean you got your phone to transfer some information to the car? Well I haven't even been able to do that, would you mind helping me please. Thank you

Hey Jasp615, I too have a brand new vehicle with less then 900Kilometers (I'm in Canada) and the issue is that Toyota is not realeasing any parts becuase they need to make sure that the parts that they are releasing will fix the "clunk". So, more tests are required. Well that's what the parts manager told me. I'm not sure if the dealership will be able to help you out much but it's worth asking. Best of luck to you, but don't worry I'm sure Lexus/Toyota will come through.

Hi Dr.Gee, I would have to agree with you on this question. You would think that it would be really easy but I've had my vehicle for about 2 weeks now and I still don't know the answer to your question. If anyone could shed some light on the subject that would be greatly appreciated. You'd think that the owners manual would explain but there is nothing, you shouldn't have to rely on your phone to transfer phone numbers.

Well remember how I said my car was scheduled to be in on October 2, 2006. Well I went in on Monday as scheduled droped off the vehicle and within 10min. of me being dropposed of at work I had to go back to the dealership. The part's manager said that the driveshaft and other components were in back order. The service manager phoned head office (assuming Toyota) and he was told that Toyota is not releasing any more parts becuase they are running more tests on the parts that have already been released. The service manager told me that the parts that are rerquired to do the fix on my vehicle were supposed to be in on September 21 but because the supplyer has not released the parts because more quality tests are required. So the good news is that Toyota/Lexus is really spending lots of resources on this matter and they are not ignoring it. The downfall to it is that some of us will have to wait. Apperently though, Toyota/Lexus would be completing there tests by the end of this week and I'm assuming that depending on the results of those test that parts will modified (if required) and released. Well the other good thing that I got out of all of this confusion and waste of me driving the vehicle to the dealership is that they gave me a $120.00 credit for anything I wanted.

Well thanks for the heads up G Man. Lets keep our fingers crossed that lexus does not take the easy road. Regardless I'm still proud of owning my GX470. I'll let you guys know how it goes with me on Monday. I'm hoping that I won't have any problems.
-
G Man, I have my car scheduled to have the shaft replaced on Monday, October 2. When did you hear about Lexus stoping the replacements? I spoke to the service manager on Wednesday, September 27 and ne never mentioned anything about cancelling the tsb. Well I guess I'll find out on Monday.

Sounds like the "clunk" might be a thing of the past. I have been drilling the service manager and he's been telling me lots about this "clunk". Within my area, there have been only three vehicles that have received the tsb and they have not returned with any concerns. Well I knew about this "clunk" before I purchased the car and I still purchased it because I believe in the product. I'm very pleased of the height of the vehicle and I'm very happy to see Toyota/Lexus step up to fix the issue. I have to admit that my Lexus dealership has been treating me really well. I can understand why people keep coming back to Lexus. Not do they provide a great product but have great service. Well at least that’s been my experience. Well if any of you GX470 owners could please keep me/us posted of the tsb and if there are any further complains please share the frustration....I'm really curious about what other owners are going through.
-
:D that is definitely good news. 3JBS and everyone else reading this that has gone through the tsb can you please provide some input as to how your vehicle is holding out please. I have just purchased a new 06 GX470 and I'm starting to know what all of you were talking about...I spoke to the service manager at the dealership and he didn't even hesitate to order the parts, he jus told me to bring it in on October 2nd and they would replace all parts....I'm a little nervous about anyone getting near the car so having someone working on a brand new vehicle makes me extremely edgy Well I have been reading lots about this tsb and I have heard nothing but positive feed back about it....so far. I did hear of someone complaining about the height of the vehicle not being the same after the tsb was completed. That was just one person because no one else complained about the height....I'm definitely going to take every precaution before I bring it to the dealership For those that have had the tsb done for the "clunk/thump" if you could please give me some pointers before I go to the dealership. I've been driving the vehicle to work and every time I come to a stop at a red light it sounds like a "clunk"...yes...yes... ..like as though the vehicles rear end got tapped from behind (typical from what I've read). Well I'm still a little hesitant about taking it in to the dealership and have the tsb done, that is why I'm asking for some feed back from anyone that has gone through what I'm going through...please and thank you in advance.

I have to admit, I hav enever owned a lexus ever in my life...not that I'm that old. After purchasing the GX470 and having a great buying experiance, I can say with confident that my next car will defenetly be a lexus....well that's just my opinion. By the way, any one know of any links to the new design for the GX470? I haven't found much on the web, but I haven't been looking that hard either. If anyone has found anything I'm curious to see the new design.
-
Thank you both for your assitance. I'm really enjoying my GX470 and I'm still trying to give my new baby a name.....I haven't come up with anything good just yet....but the more I drive it something will come to me. This may be an odd question but do any of you name your cars?
-
hey denslexusqx470 I have a question for you, I'm still new at this so I hope people don't mind me asking. Well I finally got my GX470 and I have two questions for you. 1. When you put the vehicle in reverse are both mirrors supposed to tilt downward? 2. When you insert a DVD disk for the rear entertainment, how can you make so that it can be heard on the speakers not on the headphones only? thank you, Carlos

Welcome and Congrats on the incoming new GX. To answer your question, wait for the clunk to appear. Since you're buying an 06, IT SHOULD come with the updated driveshaft and control arms, but you never know. The dealer will not let you order the parts in advance because no one knows if the vehicle will have it. ;) Thank you for the advise. Any pointers as to the type of "clunk" I should be expecting. I mean some people have said it feels as though the person behind you gives you a gentle tap, other say it's almost like a little slip when coming to a complete stop, others have said that when they accelerate it's a soft thump sound. Well I'm sure that I will notice it when I feel it, but I don't want to be paranoid about it. what I mean is I don't want to be driving with the radio off and constantly in the look out of a "clunk" . I have reasearched the GX470 for almost two years and I have heard great things about the vehicle. I have also heard people knock the vehicle and...well in my opinion the good overwelms the bad ....but that's just my opinion. I'm looking forward on recieving my new baby, I get it on Wednesday September 06 at 7:00PM . well any pointers you or anyone can give me I would truly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

Hi, I just purchased an 06 GX470 and I'm familiar with this "clunk" thanks to you guys. So my question to you is if I'm buying a new car should I tell them to order the parts for me, or wait and see when it starts happening? Might the car come with the new driveshaft and control arms? Well if you guys could let me know, I would greatly appretiate it.
