  1. My tire guy and friend who works out of a shop at his house keeps telling me i gotta put that tire on my car,now he knows i am not due for new ones yet it is just he is really excited about this tire for my car 90 ls 400. I really think it will be my next tire , when i asked about more michelins he just looked me in the eye and shook his head and was back to ranting about this "potenza"it exemplifies elegance , its smooth like glass , floating on a cloud, quiet , ect.....well i trust this guy enough to put the tire that almost put ford out of business on my car! so let me know how you like them because i have never owned a bridgestone.
  2. the best i have gotten is 27 mpg, and they were hilly miles at speeds around seventy,i gained altitude too the whole way starting at 4700 and going to 8000 but lots of up and down. i think my tires were pumped up a little too hard 35 psi. i let some out. its hard going from 35 degrees at 8000 feet to 80 degrees at sea level to figure out what to pump the tires up to.... especially crossing the mojave when its a hundred and ten. i figured i lose 4 psi going from eight thousand to sealevel but i think i get around six psi back from the temp. increase...? i don't know i guess i just keep checking them. 27 mpg's on a v8 with nearly 250k is pretty good i think. its about 21 city but i drive like a grandma.
  3. Well ,JD powers and consumer reports gives the 1990 Lexus LS 400 the highest ratings available. it is a high quality automobile. I would say you don't need a new car... you need a new mechanic. but what it really comes down to: is the car in nice shape? do you love it ?do you want to keep it forever? if so then keep the car and find a mechanic who shares your opinion of the car he'll help you realize there aren't many built like these . mine has 234,000 . and has only needed things any car beyond a brand new car would need. if not sell it because I'll buy it. what do you want?
  4. My 90 Ls 400 w/ 233k has (had) similar problem. The problem is in the cluster of wires that run along the left trunk hinge. these wires get all bent up and either break or short out. for me , i just straightened out the kink and wrapped the cluster with a ton of electrical tape enough to supply some more torsional rigidity. i later thought to wrap the kink in corrugated cardboard and then with tape to really inhibit the damage inflicted by the trunk hinge to these wires, but have not experienced the problem since.... if i were you i would carefully assess the situation before doing any wrapping to make sure there are no broken or bear wires that need repair. good luck!
  5. Jim: Thank you for the great input, i really appreciate it, my brakes were also very grabby as described in the thread when it acted up really bad once crossing the mojave, heat tends to exponentiate electrical faults. thank you for sharing your knowledge.
  6. I have a very odd occurance on my 1990 ls, when i brake my reverse light on the gear selection indicator lights up, this turns the dash lights out because when you put the car in reverse the dash lights go out to increase rear view visibility. it happens a bit and then stops and then it will occur again in a few weeks. always after i have backed up and then put car into drive, something is sticking... i think. any input is welcomed.
