  1. firsy of all the car was definately repainted and ill tell u why its doing that. look at where its chipping on the top parts of the car not on the sides. you live in florida and therefore when you live in florida primer is a must for a paint job. primer works as an absorber. when the sun shines thru the base coat and clear coat if there is no primer it goes straight thru the e-coat and into the sheet metal which cause the paint to chip. sometimes up north you can get away with a paint job like that. maaco usually does those paint jobs for around $300. but u have to keep getting them. they r usually jus for if u want to sell a car and in ur case it happened to u. if it is chipping in small dots it could be that the car was prepped very wrong before being painted...maybe the paint booth was dirty and those spots chipping there were something under that paint. i dont no an you put any pictures up so i can be sure? and about the brakes..i have the same problem. the original owner of my car installed semi-metallic brake pads on mine and they squeak like crazy. the only way to fix the noise is not to buy lexus pad but buy ceramic brake pads. they wil run you about $150-$300 depending on where you get them...look online for some no-name brand cheap ones....wil work the same.
  2. $2300 sounds right. yeah those lamps alone are range between $200 - $600 jus depending on the site. u have to consider that fender man...even though it looks like someone could jus walk over and pop it out...thats like a 2-3 hour dent. painting shouldnt be too much they jus hav to blend it in and all. but you should be expecting to pay that much even if you buy some of the parts on ur own...if anything tell them to forget about the headlamp assembly and jus let lexus do it. when there is a lot to do it seems that 1 makes a big differnce...you can do the light anytime.
  3. I'm not sure if it is normal because i have never noticed it on any other car until now, but when i get home from work my rims r hot as hell when i hit a water puddle smoke comes off of them because they r so hot. it squeaks very bad when i stop only sometimes but 75% of the time it squeaks (almost like if you were to scratch a fork on a dinner plate kinda sound). i changed my break pads recently and did not change the rotors. i may need to turn them because they r used to the old break pads but im not sure. it smells like a burning belt when im done driving my car because my rims r so hot. i assume it is the rotors and break pads. can anyone help me or has anyone had a similar problem?
  4. the thing is man with these cars...dont replace anything until u need it. u should fix the P/S first. You will know when u need to fix the cv boots because u will see oil leaking on the conrete. my cv boots have been leaking minorly for 35k miles...nothing serious yet and its at 80k miles. no matter what a dealer says dont replace the timing belt because he said so. get a second opinion...ive seen timing belts good for about 110k miles for needing to be replaced. i think i told u before i boughtmy antenna for $70 and put it on myself. jus ask the guy at the dealership how to do and u can do it urself. dont get dissappointed bout the car man. fix the p/s maybe then thats all that i would do for now. later bro and good l.uck
  5. hey man...i broke my antenna the same way the very first week i had my car...i didnt have time to wash it myself so i went thru a car wash....u can pick up the antenna for an LS400 90-92 for i believe $70-$80 at a lexus dealership. in march of 93 they made a newer model antenna for some reason i don't no. to remove the old one, turn the radio on, and that silver ring unscrews that the antenna goes inside. once u remove that....remve all of the white cord from the broken one. place the white cord from the new one inside...there r teeth that will meet with thie cord and retract it. basically jus put it back together the way u took it out. good luck. basic things u should get done to the car r probably new tires...an allignment. oil change. jus because it has low miles doesnt mean everything is great. the car could have sat a long time considering if they drove it the whole time they put somewhere between 2,500 to 2,800 miles on it per year. check the power steering fluid...make sure it has been replaced before if that sat the entire life of the car u should probably get it flushed out for probably around $50. there may be a few leaks but they can be fixed easily. dont get discouraged after u get the car inspected. and u should probably get a 2nd and maybe even a 3rd opinion on the car. dont go with what the first guy says. take it to the mechanic with a mind set of telling him u r about to buy this car and u want to know what he thinks. if they know u own the car they may sell u on things that could use fixing but not needed. power steering flushes are completely safe if done propely. i recommend taking it to a shop and not buying the stuff u pur into it. most people think that power flushes cause leaks thru out the power steering system, but i have flushed out many cars and not ever a problem. didnt realize u said 66k miles...thought u said 36k...that changes average miles per year to 4,500 - 4,800.
  6. the thump when u take ur foot off the gas sounds like overdrive could be off. when overdrive is off in my car depending on how fast i am going the car thumps a bit.
  7. I paid 6k for my 1990 Ls 400 which had only 77k miles on it. I wanted it because of the mileage. I got the oil changed and also had it inspected. This is everything that the mechanic told me I needed to have repaired. Steering Gear which costs 1,016.75 and the labor would be 323.00. It's not needed but will be needed later in time. Also Two Valve Cover Gaskets which are 30.80 each labor for both is 382.50. Oil Pressure Sender or Switch is 37.05 and labor is 85.00. Axel Shaft Assembly For Left and Right is 119.80 each, and the labor is 212.50. The power steering also needs to be flushed out because it has never been changed. I also heard that if I flush it out it will cause more leaks. The price overall for parts and labor with tax is $2,753.86. Should I sell this car or just get it repaired? I know that if I get it fixed it will run for a very long time. Please help me!
  8. I just got my 1990 Lexus ls400 inspected and the guy told me i should sell it while i still can. It has 78k miles on it....he said the power steering has never been touched and it is coated on the inside, but if i try to put new power steering fluid in it, the coating will break off sending it through the hoses causing more leaks. He said there were minor oil leaks, and he said im coming up on my 90k mile service and it would cost me $1500 from him and about $1800 from Lexus. I don't think he was trying to sell me on buying the service from him because he told me to sell the car while I still can. Should I sell it or just try to get everything fixed and have it running like new again?
  9. I just recently bought a 1990 Lexus Ls 400 from an elderly man. The car has 77k original miles on it. I paid $6,000 and there are only minor problems that I know of. The leather is just a little bit worn. The tilt on the driver side seat is broken, and the steering wheel tilt is broken. Other than that the car looks almost brand new, it was babied. I was driving on the interstate on my way home last night and when i hit 80 miles an hour there is a vibration coming from the front right wheel. Sounds almost like it does when you go off of the road and roll over those lines. As the speed increases it gets worse. Does anyone else have this problem? And if anyone could tell me what I should get looked at. I need to know if anything should be replaced, because everything looks original under the hood. Thanks.
