  1. I read the post 3 times then the last section with the speedo issue made me think this could be down to a speed sensor issue. If there is no speed sensor signal the speedo will not work as it doesn't but this signal also has feeds to various ECUs including the transmission and engine and could be the cause of your problem approaching 60 mph making the engine go into limp home mode to protect it.

I think the sensor is mounted on the passenger side of the transmission and it may be a good idea to check the sensor and wiring.

  2. Why buy a junked alternator? Buy the correct alternator from from Tucson Alternator Exchange, http://www.tucsonalternator.com.

Great service, overnight shipping, inexpensive ($129 includes shipping and return FedEx package for returning old alternator), plus life-time warranty!

    Good luck!

I think he sorted the problem nearly 2 months ago. Great advertisement for the business by the way I guess you either own it or work for it?

  3. IF you dont have an extra key......... WHY dont you???

it is not very smart to be without one.

it is always the first thing I do if it comes with a single key.

    just for peace of mind.

You must have done some searching to find this 7 year old topic Billy! :D

Is that 96 you bought all sorted now?

I have just missed out on a 1998 with 63,000 miles for $1800.00

  4. Locksmith service provider should be licensed and professional and reliable business is the right person. You can verify the authenticity of the service requesting proof of identity card or a technician. You should request a copy of the invoice when the work is done, and payment must be made. Decrease of work through the proof of service.

    Denver locksmith

Good advice, the last thing you need is to find your car stolen later by a dishonest locksmith who made an extra copy of your key for themselves!

Oh and welcome to the LOC :D

  5. They had the car for five hours and didn't even get as far as removing the door panel!

I think in five hours I could have acheived a lot more and I am not a Lexus qualified mechanic.

First check would have been fuses/circuit breakers then remove door panel and check for 12 volts.

I wouldn't be looking forward to your labor costs.

Just had a look and it would appear the front doors each have their own ECU and fuse (passenger door is fuse 14).

  6. You may be better off getting one from the UK due to shipping costs and import duty as there is no import duty between EU countries.

I recently had to replace a head light on my imported 1994 LS400 and shipped from a UK dealer who is the official UK LOC dealer (ACLex) it only cost me around 170.00 Euros.

  7. The extra nipples for vacuum pipes are only fitted normally to the JDM models known as Toyota Celsiors. Some of these were fitted as standard with Eaton M90 superchargers which used the extra take offs to monitor and control the boost pressure.

It sounds like yours has been converted back to standard, pity as the SC models had over 400BHP! :whistles:

I had to put on my hip boots to read this one. <_<

My Brit sense of humour I'm afraid :D

  8. thanks everybody, i guess it wasnt as cool as i hoped.

  9. I doubt this injector pulse theory is very likely to be the problem. If you had a faulty injector you would likely only have one or two at one time. It’s unthinkable that all injectors simultaneously went bad. The car might run a little rough but it would run with 6 out of 8 injectors working.

I would set that theory aside for the time being.

You need to see if its fuel or spark. Gets some starting fluid (spray can of ether) and have someone spray into the air intake while cranking the engine. If it starts running for a bit (maybe even roughly) then it’s likely to be a fuel starvation problem. Maybe your new fuel pump isn't wired correctly or there is a fuse, relay, wire, or resistor broken along the way. You could use a DVM and measure voltage at the fuel pump connector and see if you have +12VDC when cranking the engine. At risk of being a smart Alec, you have confirmed there is fresh gas in the tank?

If fuel seems fine then look into ignition issues. Very well documented on this forum.

I thought the same regarding the injectors, the only way to test the switching pulses accurately is with an oscilloscope a DVM wouldn't be able to react fast enough.

Good idea with the ether I had forgotten about that trick,it found the gas tank was actually empty on a previous car I had even though the gauge said it was half full!

  10. The 1st thing you need to do is determine whether it is fuel rated or spark related, so check your fuel pressure and check for sparks.

From what you say it does sound fuel related but you need to be sure before throwing $$$ in there.

Once you have a diagnosis of either fuel or spark repost and we can go from there, at the moment there are too many possible causes to cover.

  11. Have you checked if the alarm/immobilizer system is working correctly as a fault here could cause the symptoms you have.

There is a way of bypassing the system by connecting pins in the engine bay diagnostic socket forcing the fuel pump to run constantly.

Found a link you need to connect a piece of wire between the 2 connections FP and B+ shown on the link below, if the car then starts you will know it is fuel related or something affecting its operation.
