  1. When you use an impact wrench you dont have to hold anything, the bolt just flys off.
  2. There are round stoppers that stop the window from going up to far so just adjust those and everything should be fine.
  3. Yes you can replace them without dropping the trans. You have to take out the valve body and replace the solenoids. Toysrme did a write up, with pics, somewhere about dropping the valve body in his trans, just search for it. I was told by a dealer that you may as well replace the entire valve body because that ends up being the problem in the long run.
  4. You do have to remove the back half of the center console, but it is very easy. Flip is over, and there are only a few screws that hold the drink holder in. Download the service manuals that are pinned at the top of the ES section and it should give you a nice visual of how easy it all is. Good Luck.
  5. i have single also. but my taco has 4 piston in the front. It is good to know that I am not the only one with a 97-2001 es that has single piston calipers. Thanks everybody for the posts so far.
  6. Huh.... My 98 has single piston calipers front and rear and to be honest I can assure you that they are original. This is weird. I wonder why I have single piston calipers?????? As a matter of fact, the 97 service manual shows a single piston caliper throughout every picture and never mentions a dual piston caliper.
  7. Last weekend I was doing my dads breaks on his 97 Avalon and noticed that he has nice dual piston calipers in the front. I was wondering if anyone here had thought about, or attempted to see if these calipers would fit an ES of around the same year (98-00). I know that I would have to change the caliper bracket and hardware but I didn’t want to attempt it without asking if someone might have tried this before and succeeded failed. Thanks, and if no one has tried, and if I have enough time, I might just try it soon.
  8. Naturally, I hope that I love them rather than hate them.
  9. First of all, Thanks for all of the replys! I thought that KYB might make the toyota stuff but wasn't sure. My Toyota dealer here in town has the front mounts for $71 and the rears for $55. Which, as far as I can tell, isn't bad at all. I've already gotton Tokico struts on Ebay for $345 to my door, now I just need mounts and bumpstops, and maybe ball joints if I'm feeling saucy. Toys: Why buy aftermarket KYB rather than the stuff from Toyota? Thanks for the replys. :)
  10. This is a simple thread. Which is better, aftermarket KYB or OEM Toyota for strut mounts and other suspension parts Thanks.
  11. During the summer my drivers side front door lock won't lock or unlock except when I do it manually. It will sometimes lock or unlock once, then its like the actuator is too weak to do it again and I can't figure out why. The other doors will lock and unlock numerous times and then they seem to get weak and finally they will stop working. And all this only happens in the heat of the summer. Any ideas about how to fix or remedy this is appreciated.
  12. I don't know anything about any dent or your ex. I was just responding to you saying that "I go to this site to learn how to care for my Lexus es 330." You come here to learn how to take care of your car and I come here to learn more about fixing mine. No hard feelings and remember; To Each, His Own. :)
  13. You know, now that I look back to the begining, maybe it wasn't directed at me. But, maybe it was??????? Thanks SW03ES, for alerting me to that. Unfortunatly, that is why I hate not being able to hear people talking because so much can be taken the wrong way when their words are just typed.
  14. timothy, I figured the fact that I own an ES would clear up which one I would rather have and that is why I come to a Lexus forum and not a Camry forum. Unlike you, I know how to take care of my ES, so I come here to ask engaging questions about some of the things that I don't know about. To Each, His Own....correct? ;)
  15. I didn't realize that the camry had a different steering rack. That is good to know. I had a pretty good idea that it had different bushings but sometimes those dont make that big of a difference. Anyway, you all are making me feel a little better about their real differences and a good discusion like this is why I came here. :) Thanks
  16. Oh yeah, I have definitely driven a 98 Camry and your right it doesn't drive as nice from the factory, but if you replace the struts the part numbers are the same as on my ES, and then you have a cheaper worse looking car that drives the same as mine. I guess I'm just a snob and I want my ES to have parts, which make such huge impacts like struts, with different part numbers because they are tuned different or just better quality. With all the things that Toyota did to differentiate the ES from the Camry, it just surprises me that tuned struts weren’t on the list. How a car drives and rides is paramount when any company is trying to blur the relationship between 2 cars that share the same frame and architecture. I can also admit though, that issues like this one won't bother most people as much as they do me.
  17. I own a 98 ES and when I'm shopping for suspension parts and the like, it bothers me to see that the 98 Camry has most of the same part numbers and that anyone with a camry can have the same nice "QUALITY" ride that I do. I understand that the ES is better in many respects and just looks much nicer but I dont like thinking that some kid with a Camry can use the same parts as I do and achieve the same ride. Here is a pic of my ride.
  18. I can tell you that I have the exact same problem and have found no fix. sorry.
  19. Thanks. It makes sense that the back wouldn't need a bearing and the front would.
  20. Whoa.... I thought that when replacing the strut mounts that the bearing was inside the mounts? I didn't realize that the bearing had a seperate part number. So when I order everything, I need to order four bearings as well as four mounts? If this is true then I am glad that I saw this thread before I ordered them this week. I plan on ordering bumpstops and maybe the isolators/seats as well, and I understand where they go and why. I also understand why the strut needs a bearing to rotate on, but I thought that it was inside the mount. More parts I have to order = :chairshot:
  21. Here is a pic of the covers since no one has ever seen these, but it is a 99ES and I want to know if they fit on the 96, they look like they do I found this picture last night. I hope that this helps.
  22. Thanks dcfish, thats a good idea. But, I was hoping that I could cut out the middle man and get them direct. I found a few websites that have some trim clips for toyotas but none of the ones they have look like the ones out of my car. So I'm still looking and any more advice will be appreciated.
  23. Hi all Whenever I take off the interior panels in a car or truck I like to replace the panel clips that hold the panels to the body. Over time, old clips that have been in and out of their holes will become loose and will allow the panels to vibrate and rattle. So my question is, where can I purchase (either in store or over internet) clips that fit the toyota/lexus cars? As we all know vibration and rattles = :chairshot: Thanks in advance.
  24. Dude those bushings are sooooo easy to replace. If you can turn a wrench, you can change them. Good Luck. Yeah man I did replace them my self very easy........to replace, and the sound is gone Awesome If only everything were that easy.
