  1. Proud to say this scenario is over. The two front tires stabilized in pressure as well as the passenger side rear tire- all holding pressures up to specs. Went to local tire dealer to have rear driver side tire checked & they found a nail in the tire, thus identifying the problem of daily pressure drops. Having that leak repaired, I am confident this problem what NOT one of improperly mounted tires, but a nail picked up as early as on my trip back home from the dealer since my pressure was unstable from day two of ownership. I consider the matter resolved and this thread is terminated.
  2. Denny- I place no value on the instrument panel TPI readings- they can vary by a pound or two sometimes. What I do value is the total agreement between my analog and digital instruments. Yes, during driving, pressures will rise according to tire temperature, actually rising to what should be the idle readings & this repeated underinflation readings are not acceptable. Thanks for your comments as they are well stated.
  3. Paul- I did not mean to mislead readers by my comments on this matter. My first call to Lexus toll-free number will be to see if I can take my car to the local Toyota dealership to remount the tires, saving me an hour and fifteen minute drive to my dealer in Baton Rouge. If that phone call insists I return to the dealer, I will then call for an appointment. Here is what I have done to back up my assertions: For the past two weeks I have not documented exact pressure drops, but as a full-fledge type A personality, I started doing this on this past Sunday, recording exact pressures digitally at all wheels. I repeated this today, Tuesday, and will do so every other day until my first opportunity to take it to any location for remounting. That visit, due to work, cannot occur until next Monday, so I will have some 5 readings by then. Note- all readings done after car has been idle for 3 hours or more and with a digital tire gauge. Thanks for your observation in this matter- after this is all over, I will post final disposition of this problem.
  4. Been having my new RC350 three weeks now. Three days after driving her home, the low tire pressure light came on. Sure enough, two tires (both on rear wheels) were three pounds low, so I aired them up. Checked the front tires and both were about 1-2 pounds low, so I figured dealer had not checked them carefully before delivery. Last week (car is now two weeks old), I checked inflation on all four tires just to make sure their pressures were stabilized and both rear tires were under inflated again, driver side by 3 pounds and passenger side by 1 pound. Again, I brought them up to 36 pounds with my compressor. Today (car is now three weeks old), I checked them again and rear tires were low again: driver side by 4 pounds and passenger side by 3 pounds. Both front tires were about 1.5 pounds low. Again, I inflated all tires to standard pressures. By the way, all pressures were checked via a digital, calibrated gauge after the car has been idle for 3 hours or more. New call next week will be to Lexus toll-free help line to see if someone locally (maybe the local Toyota dealer) can remount all tires for me- saving me a 1 hour & 15 minute drive to my dealer in Baton Rouge, LA. If I cannot get local warranty service, I guess I will have to take the long drive and have my dealer do it for me. I am reluctant to PAY for someone to do this for me. By the way, I had the same experience with the second ES350 I bought some years ago. A local friend who owned a service station remounted all tires for me at almost no cost, but he is no longer the business owner of that service station. As a matter of history, I am on my sixth Lexus in the last 9 years: 2 ES350's, 3 GS350's and now an RC350. Damn, I love those cars...

  6. Just bought a RC and would like to change some personalization preferences, but do not know where the OBD port is in my car. I have a Bluetooth BAFX diagnostic device that needs to be attached to the OBD port. Anyone know where it is in this particular car? Your help is greatly appreciated & will save me a trip to the dealer located an hour away...
  7. After my car has been parked for over 1-2 hours in hot weather, the car has become, over the last two months, increasingly hard to start. When the start button is pressed, the car tries to start but failed to do with seat and steering wheel returning to their "parking" positions. The car is NEVER hard to start in the morning or when garaged during the day, only when parked out in the hot sun at work, shopping, the golf course, etc. Today, the car required four attempts to start, halting & failing each of the first 3 attempts. The problem has gotten worse over the last two months such that I am ready to schedule an appointment with the dealer to check it out. Anyone else having this problem?
  8. Internet searches of chrome durability in modern cars reveals this is an all-to-common problem. Seems like Mercedes owners have enough problems with their trashy electronics systems, they do not need wheel deterioration problems on top of that.
  9. Dear Lenore- The chrome wheels are on my Premium version 2013 GS350. In this case, the flaking off of chrome is confined to one wheel and only on all five lug nut openings. The wheels are stock wheels that Lexus buys from an outside vendor my service manger tells me. According to the service manger, the technique for chroming wheels in modern times is different from the chroming baths used in the 50's, 60's and 70's as those old methods violated all newer environmental regulations. Thank all Californian leftists for that restriction. The current technique involves a powder coat on top of the iron surface of the wheel, then somehow chromed chemically (instead of electrolysis the OLD way) over that surface- it appears the technique is of questionable quality in my case.

As reported in a previous entry on this website back in November 2013, I had all four chrome wheels on my 2013 GS350 replaced without charge by dealer because of chrome flaking off of the wheels. Replacement wheels (4) were ordered and installed by dealer in December 2013. Well it happened again- notice this weekend that one wheel's lug nut cavities (all five of them) had areas about the size of a quarter flaking off and leaving behind RUST. I visited the dealer today and the service manager inspected and identified the problem as I did. Upon close inspection, all other wheels show no deterioration at this time. The dealer has ordered a replacement wheel for me at no charge for wheel or install. Should take about 10 days or so to receive it. Hope this is the end of that short series of problems. Any one else having this problem?
  11. Noticed upon on washing my 2013 GS350 (my third GS350 and fifth Lexus total) that chrome is flaking off of all four wheels. My wheels are the version known five spoke "super-chromed" wheel- beautiful but severely corroded at present. Dealer has replacement set on order, at no charge of course. Lexus problems with the painted wheels I had on my two previous GS350's are legend, frequent and require perseverance on the owners part to get resolved, but this chrome wheel problem, according to my dealer, is unique. Anyone else having this problem?
  12. Had the same thing happen to my 2008 GS350 roof "drip rails" after the intense heat wave here in LA this summer. One week one side affected, next week, both sides with each week getting worse and worse, even causing wind noise at hiway speeds. Took it to my dealer who said this is "cosmetic" and not covered by warranty BUT they would replace both rails "one time" for free as a customer service. The replacement cost was priced at $1300, but cost me nothing. The parts were ordered, came in after two days and took about an 1.5 hours to install. During the install, I purchased a CPO 2011 GS350 at a great deal, and traded in the being-repaired car in this process. My four Lexuses all bought from Price Leblanc in Baton Rouge, LA- they are great folks to deal with- very personable and customer-friendly.
  13. Had the same thing happen with my ES350- since it was in warranty, trip to dealer yielded replacement of entire changer 6-disc system. Item had to be ordered, came in 7-10 days later and took them 45 minutes to replace old one. When I inquired about saving my home-burned CD's in changer, dealer told me that the whole changer would be sent to a Lexus service center which would remove all discs safely and mail them to me. In about a week, I successfully received all 6 discs intact and undamaged. Replacement changer worked fine six months later when I traded ES350 in on CPO GS350 about two months ago.

  15. Don't feel bad about this- I had the same warning light on mine and it was the spare also. Somehow, the monitoring system within the ES350 also keeps tabs on the spare...
  16. I have used regular fuel since my first fill-up 15 months ago, and have had no consequence since. Mileage is about the same as previously stated by other users... My car's mileage is approaching 7,000 without a single problem in any area thus far (fingers crossed while saying this)...
  17. From the original poster of this question- mea culpa, mea culpa... You guys are just too good for me. I did bend down (contorsions worthy of a circus performer) and look UNDER the panel of the dash &, sure enough, found the switches several of you helpful guys described. My mistake was looking for a switch ON the lower panel, near the right knee position, not UNDER said panel, way, way back. My wife was right- sometimes a guy with three college degrees is NOT the smartest tack in the box. Thanks to all of you for the many helpful and correctly stated replies. I look forward one day to helping someone else out with their knawing problem with their ES350. Until then, I remain red-faced and embarassed, but a happy ES350 owner. Over and out...

  19. Damn you guys are good! Just checked out the inflation pressure on my SPARE tire and, sure enough, it was low. Inflated it to 33 pounds I use on running tires and voila, the warning light went OUT. Thanks everyone for the help on this little mystery. - Larry

From the original poster of this question: I have no tire inflation reset button, neither in the lower dash (where those models having this monitoring system have that switch), nor in the glove box, the only switch therein is the trunk release button. I am at wit's end- the car is a year old, having just 6,000 miles on it. Tomorrow, I will check the spare tire inflation and maybe that's the key, and then let everyone know what results. Thanks for helpful comments thusfar...
  21. My ES350's low inflation for tires warning light has been on for about two weeks now, never going off even once. I have checked the four tires' inflation twice during that time and they are all a perfect 33 pounds. I do not have a "reset" button to extinguish this warning light on my lower dash, so it seems I do not have that add-on which monitors tire inflation pressures anyway. So, why is the light suddenly illuminated? Any suggestions (short of going to the dealer for service)? Thanks for any suggestions
  22. From previous experience with my two Lexus cars, you probably are having an "incompatibility" between the CD player and the BRAND of CD blanks you are using. Example- my previous Lexus did not like Memorex brand blanks onto which I recorded my own tunes. My current ES350 however, does not discriminate between brands- I have successfully used Verbatim, 3M, a popular generic brand and Memorex discs successfully in it. You might try an alternate brand of disc and enjoy great success with it- blank CD discs cost pennies today and it will be worth the trouble to enjoy your own tunes...
  23. I have 2900 miles on my ES350 and have NEVER filled it with Premium fuel. The only time the engine has seen premium fuel was the full tank it received from the dealership when I picked it up. To date, no performance issues nor any pinging, knocking, etc. Still exhibits great pickup and excellent passing ability, particularly in the 50-80 speed range.
  24. Having previously owned an ES330 (for six months, then traded to ES350), I can say seat comfort is well above average in fit and texture- not hard by any means. Opinion offered by a 150 pound, 7% body fat flat belly driver with little or no built-in butt cushioning...
