  1. I just removed the CD changer from my 95 Gs300 touring edition, and there is this box below it with 3 wire harnesses, the car runs fine without it, I was just curious if it was related to the cd changer or if it had anything to do with the tail lights (my turn signals still work without it hooked up)

below is the box, it is on the passenger side of the trunk

    Another photo of it:

Also Do i need these weights on my exhaust pipes or can i remove them to save on weight? below are images of them as well:

I assume they just keep the pipes from rattling and making noise? I would rather have a rattle and better gas mileage! :)

    Thanks! any info appreciated!!

  2. Hello all, I have a 1994 GS300 and have a problem that popped up with the drivers seat. It goes forward fine but when you try to put it back it back it makes a horrid sound and kind of goes sideways. Anyone know what may be causing this and a possible fix? I'm hoping its just off the rail on the right side as that seems to be where the problem is. I can't see under there to tell. Thanks for any help.

My drivers seat does the exact same thing, i think it is a broken white plastic gear piece. not sure if it can be replaced, you'll def have to unbolt the seat to get a good look at it.

lemme know what you do to fix it!!

  3. I have the K&N 33-2220 in my 06 SC430. Absolutly no problem, slightly better milage and it feels like it has just a bit more power.

Anybody know of the cheapest place to buy a K&N? for a 95 gs300?? (besides ebay) , I think autozone had them for like 65, which is a bit steep for my budget.

    -Thanks-

  4. Do you guys replace your shocks/struts when you lower you car? Can I just get the springs and be done with it?

yes you can just do it, I just cut my springs, 2 coils in the back and one in the front and it does not rub(but speedbumps are real tough)

Does anyone know where to buy used stock springs to return it to orig height?(besides a junkyard or ebay)

    Thanks!

Cut springs on a Lexus? Very ricey! I think ebay or junkyards are the only place you're gonna find used stock springs... that is if you can even find them there.

yes I actually just cut my springs just to prove to the idiots at work that it could be done, i'm buying eibachs when I find them for less than 200.

  6. Check your local newspaper ads and compare the prices of Luxury vehicles that follow under your vehicles year, mileage, and price range, mainly Lexus. Check to see how they match up with the KBB value and go from there. In my area, usually cars are listed at or a little above KBB values, but the ones that get sold in a day of listing are the ones that are of course below. But everything depends on your local auto market value.

ya it def depends on the local market, like i got my 95 for only 5k, it only had a few more miles on it, but you'll def get at least 6k if you clean it up and have a good ad.

  7. My belt squeaks usually when it rains and I read this test and was wondering if it was just BS?

"Using a spray bottle filled with water, mist the belt lightly. If the noise level recedes for several seconds, then returns louder, a misalignment problem is likely. If the noise immediately increases after the belt is sprayed, slipping is likely... If the water spray test is inconclusive, or not successful at diagnosing the problem, attempt to remove the noisy belt and re-install it so that the belt runs in the opposite direction. Because misalignment noise is influenced by the direction of misalign ment in the drive, flipping the belt around in this manner will eliminate or significantly diminish (temporarily) any noise caused by drive misalignment. If the noise remains unchanged, the problem is not likely related to drive alignment... Also, look for replaced drive components, such as a rebuilt alternator, which may have been improperly installed resulting in pulley misalignment."

  8. I have seen this topic. I know the standard reply is rotor warpage. There has to be something else. My 98 GS 300 has 60k miles, had vibration through steering wheel on braking. Rotors were warped. I replaced the fronts with Brembo crossdrilled, and the rear with Brembo stock. On first braking at the described speed I still get the shutter. Has there been a campaign by Lexus to fix this. I see it is a common complaint.. Frustrating--stops real good now though.

just curious how much did you get all your brembo's for? Not sure how to fix your vibration, try everything though, change your pads a few times, check allignment, brake fluid and all. I was talking with a friend who said there was a valve that distributes the brake fluid in the lines "relatively evenly" to the different brakes, maybe the split valve is not calibrated right or malfunctioning (which is supposedly computer controlled on lex).

    Good luck

  9. it's NOT a good idea to turn up your dimmer to full brightness on the older GS's. As twinturbo and I do, leave it at about half way, it's more than bright enough in our cars. The most important reason to NOT turn them up full brightness is that in the older GS's those bulbs put out ALOT of heat. I recently put LED's in mine and all the bulb bases were brown and brittle from the heat. The MOST important reason not to turn them up all the way is it can lead to early needle failure from the heat created. The needles are NOT cheap! B)

does anyone know where to get good aftermarket bulbs?? mine's burned out already on the temperature indicator(so at night i have no idea what the temp is... lol)

  10. I'm kinda putting my 95 gs300 on a weight reduction, and i was wondering if the huge black plastic box attached to the intake pipe(just before going into the manifold) actually does anything?

it looks as if it is supposed to divert dust particles or add the venturi effect or something?

Is it chill to just replace the whole pipe section and leave that box off??(less weight=more hp!!!!lol i'm hardcore about weight reductions)

  11. Shocks and springs need to work together.  I agree with dbgs400 that it may be your shocks.  Also, different springs have different spring rates (obviously ;)) so you need to be careful in picking out the right one for the right ride your are looking for.

A complementary shock/spring combo would do you better in this case.  This is one of the major advantages to coilovers (which also range from track stiff to soft street cruiser).  The springs and shocks were made to work with each other.

I was thinking about putting on the "EIBACH PRO-KIT LOWERING SPRINGS" on with my cushy 16's,lol.

Will the ride quality be decent with the stock shocks and the EIBACH springs? If not what shocks/spring combo would be best for ride quality.
