  1. I would dare to use the old addage of "supply and demand". If you can get more money for the same car...why not. I would also say that median household income (varies at different parts of the country) which is a factor of the local cost of living, has much to do with it. Let's say that a married couple earns $200k in Southern California and live in a home that is valued at $800k. It's not to hard to sell them a $45K car. Those same people, in another part of the country, would earn say about 1/2 of that (not trying to insult anyone, just trying to illustrate; allbeit extreme). It then becomes harder to sell that car at that price. I do live in So. Cal. and find it amazing what people pay for cars vs. homes and incomes. I can't fathum making a $500 payment for a car if I had to pay $1000 (or less someplaces) for a mortgage (Square footage being equal). Then insurance, fuel, tires, etc. on top of that. If you had the "inflated" incomes of these select areas of the country then these other expenses seem minor. And a vehicle would only be 10% of total annual income vs. 30% (again, just a crude illustration; an attorney would like me to state "actual percentage will vary") So in a strange twist of economics, it's actually easier to afford a Lexus here in So. Cal because the cost of living is higher. I think it goes like this: Higher cost of living=higher income=more disposable income=higher asking prices for vehicles. I'm not sure I totally understand it either; but it sure feels that way out here. My humble opinion.
  2. Black w/ Tan here I garage it at night. Wife parks it in a garage at work and we still get it washed every week. I like to use those cool dusters between washes and it does pretty well. Hotter to the touch? Sure. Dirt shows up more? Yup. We've all had friends who say "but black is so dirty" to which I reply "Oh, I didn't know the dirt knew which cars to cling to". So dirt shows up easily, but you will get the dirt off quicker; not a bad way to be. We have a mobile carwash guy who keeps the car taken car of. He's actually spotted scratches and removed them at no charge. We have touch up paint in the car that he has access to for those pesky front bumper chips. About once every 2 mos. we have him detail the inside and wax too. It helps that he's a big fan of the car and of course we tip him nicely. This way might cost you a few bucks, but it buys me peace of mind and frees up more time for me to enjoy the car. Just my opinion.
  3. This place is not in the bay area, but UPS can remedy that. I've heard good things about this place. You could at least give them a call and get a quote so you can compare. Hope it helps. http://www.calchrome.com/
  4. Here. Here. Date the most attractive woman you can. Don't drink cheap booze. Buy a friend dinner. Don't talk "It is better to remain silent and thought of as a fool, than it is to open ones mouth and remove all doubt" Take a vacation every year. Don't take yourself so serious. Try to learn something new everyday. Never feed you Lexus less than 89 Octane. Words of wizdom given to me by my mother. Dad said "don't bring that *BLEEP* around here" Go figure.
  5. I had the same dilema not to long ago. GS300 or GS430? Save me some dough and get the 300, or splurge on the V8? Fuel milage is so close that it wasn't a factor. Premium fuel in both. Ok. Both trimmed very nicely. Hmmmm. What to do? Drive the 400 and don't look back! You will only improve your financial situation as you go, so bite the bullet now and love the V8. The bottom end grunt is addicting. Run the RPMs up and you hear a sophisticated roar (if there is such a thing) versus the scream of a stressed 6. Never mind your stomach being in the back seat by then Oh, and if you have the traction control option; take it off, then stand on the throttle. The punch is even more brutal :P I happen to get the '03 GS 430 with the sport package, Nav system, etc. etc. She is black with tan leather and she is gorgeous. Guy in Bev. Hills turned it in with 30K miles for an '04 LS430 (can't blame him there). So the car is immaculate. I happen to have the sales manager in our circle of friends and got the car for under $40k. My next one will be the LS for sure.
