  1. That being said , does the GS not have an over head sunglass holder where the map lights are ?

Also they probably do not have an overhead one as they have a automated toll collection service with a card swipe built into the car so they have no room up there.

yes there is an overhead sunglass holder for my car, but in japan, in the sun glass holder's place, there is a security camera system, the one i mentioned above. takes snapshots of the inside of the car. thats why they offer the optional sunglass holder in replace of the ashtray. i just figured, for practical every day use, i dont smoke, i could put other stuff in there, like change or a checkbook or something instead of an ashtray. they should definately offer that in the US market.

  2. there's gotta be some way of getting our hands on this stuff. the complicated stuff such as the remote ignition and security camera should be harder to get because we dont know how to install it. But if were talking about just hard goods, such as the ash tray replacer and things like that, im sure we can find some guy in japan selling stuff on ebay. or am i just lying to myself? lol.

  3. I used babel fish to translate the japanese lexus website. So far, this is some stuff ive discovered that's currently available to Japanese 2006 GS Owners......

Safety Flashlight that charges in the center divider between the seats.

In the place where our sunglass holder is, the japanese have a security system with a camera, that photographs the entire interior of the car, if a break in occurs. THIS IS THE SICKEST THING IVE EVER SEEN!!!!!

Non smokers can replace the ashtray with a sunglass holder.

This thing GLOWS when the doors are opened!

I couldn't figure out what this is, but it looks cool. The translation gave me jibberish.

I also found a body kit and whole bunch of other stuff that im going to church right now to PRAY TO GOD THAT IT REACHES US!

Lemme know what you guys think about all of this.

  4. Ok everyone, the time has come for headrest tv's.   Now, how the hell am i gonna do it?  Ive noticed the back of the headrest is plastic, this has gotta be cut?   Has anyone done this yet? or can anyone point me in the right direction?

I am curious, Are there really enough people that ride in the back seat of the GS to warrant twin screens? Or is just because you want them? Thanx

there is a fair amount of cruising on sunset blvd so yes people do watch them, however, i also just want them. im considering headrest tv in the headrest of the backseat passengers as well. so people behind me at red lights can watch too  just kidding. i just think they rock the casba.

You should consider putting screens in the fold down sun visors then and you definetly would want one [ or more ] in the trunk and on the inside of the trunk deck.

ya visor tv's are sick but there's already the screen on the DVD i modded so i dont need the visor. but it would be sick as hell.

  6. I know some of the folks at Hendrick Lexus have the bypass on their own vehicles.  Also, I have heard Freeman's has done bypass on some cars.  I will call them on Friday.

    Jason

let me know what you find out. I'm thinking of doing over the weekend. It look fairly simple. I just hate cutting on a $50K car, know what i mean.

you can email me at moss@carolina.rr.com

soldering is preferred because it makes for a better connection. For me it was easy because ive got one of those Cold Heat Soldering thingamajiggies, but twist and capping shoulnd't be a problem. as far as grounding goes. there aren't many options. you can loop through an opening or drill into your frame somehwere. i dont really see why a ground is necessary though. the yellow wire that is cut is the one that is grounded, so what was the original purpose of cutting that wire? why not just leave it intact? perhaps its a factory ground? my friend just got hired at Toyota, and since the navigation is virtually identical to the Prius, he's gonna fish around when he gets the chance and let me know. i'll keep you guys posted. i have a feeling leaving the yellow wire intact will take away the need for grounding as well as save a little bit of time.

  7. You can buy the headrest that has the TV already in it and the installation is pretty easy. My father ordered them off some website. They look really nice and they come in Black, Grey, and tan leather. Its an option.

ya thats a pretty good idea. i saw some basic ones at circuit city but the problem is they aren't the same shape as my stock headrest. the advantage i guess is i wont have to cut my stocks.

  8. Thanks for the detailed instructions.  I followed them step by step and have had good results.  The only problem that I have had is that I am still not able to use my Nav system while driving (I can still use it while stopped).  I can play DVDs, dial with the onscreen phone, but no Nav use.  What is the most likely mistake?

you haven't made any mistakes. the navigation override doesn't work. just the dvd and the on screen phone works. for navigation inputs, you have to disable it manually. check up earlier in posts. i put up a video of how to do it. its a few buttons u push on ur screen that lets you bypass the navi lock. heres the link to the video...

    hope this helps

Hey gs430: you gonna kick me in of the money you getting from doing the installs? haha, just kidding bro. good way to make some extra beer money!!

    they're actually not.

i taped up the white reverse lights and had the red parts of the tailligh sprayed. you can buy the spray and make it as light or dark as you like. its comes off clean with a special abrasive and leaves no damage.

notice in the link you put, the white reverse lights are blacked out. but thats not how mine are.

  10. Would it be possible to put a switch on this modification so that you can turn the saftey feature on and off?

Reason I ask is my friend was pulled over for having the DVD playing in the front seat.  He added the on/off switch so if a cop is near he can turn the safety back on and it looks like the stock navigation.

    Thanks

your car alrelady has a "switch" all you gotta do is push the PHONE button on ur steering wheel, and the car immediately switches to the phone mode on the screen. or u can just press the NAVI button and it does the same thing. there's no point in putting a switch. the cop isn't gonna sit in ur car with you and say "drive so i see that the screen disables when the car goes past 5 mph" besides this, id ont think a switch can work because the mod requires cutting of certain wires and weldling together of certain wires. you'd have to instsall a full relay system, and i really don't think you want to do that. this is just my opinion though.
