  1. No apologies are necessary; your intention was great. That's what this forum is about: owners helping owners. Thank you for the great help always.
  2. Yes, after removing the timing belt and the cam gear. Thank you very much!
  3. Thanks for your input. I had no idea that there was a VVT position sensor. I found it in an exploded view while searching for something else.
  4. I have seen tutorials for changing the VVT solenoid, but no one has ever mentioned the VVT position sensor. Does it ever go bad? If so, how difficult is it to replace?
  5. Let's put this puppy to bed. I found a YouTube video with the cam seal being replaced. The timing belt had to be removed to remove the cam end cap. Thanks for your help and support.
  6. Thanks once again. Paulo57509, you are a wealth of information. I was able to remove the plug from the end cap, yet the end cap did not come off. I will keep trying things until It comes out or I get weary and stop.
  7. I checked, and the plug is in the cam end cap, not in the head. It is more than likely keeping the end cap from being removed. At this point, I must figure out how to remove the plug without causing damage.
  8. It could be possible that the plug is causing the cam cap not to release. I tried to free the cap again. I looked at many past post and most replies came from you Paulo57509 with great information thanks you very much.

  10. Thank you once again. I can lift the cam end cap, and it stops. I will try to remove it again tomorrow, very gently, hoping not to damage anything. Thanks again.

  11. I like the way you give information. It's simple without a condescending tone.
  12. Thank you for your assistance. I appreciate your help. If I understand correctly, I do have to remove the timing belt from the cam gear. Also, remove the cam gear to remove the end cap. So, I am retired and tired. I will take my time and do it all over again. I was hoping I would not have to do that. I was able to break the sealant, but I still can't get the cam end cap off.
  13. I need to replace the vvt filter which is in the head under the front cam end cap. I have taken the valve cover off and removed the bolts holding the cap. tapped it to get it loose. so there I am. any help would appreciated.
  14. I got a kit without a tensioner. The water pump is new. Everything is new, but not the tensioner . thank you
  15. I have installed a new timing belt on my Lexus LS 400. installed the tensioner and removed the pin. Now, it appears that I have slack in the timing belt. From the crank to the left camshaft was tite, and from the left camshaft to the right camshaft was tite. From the rt. camshaft to the crank was a little slack. and I pulled the pin from the tensioner. Now, I think that reusing the tensioner was not the right thing to do. Thoughts, please
  16. Thank you! I hope to tackle it tomorrow. The code I think was or is P1349 for Bank 1.
  17. I apologize. This hopefully explains better, I have replaced VVT solenoids and an O2 sensor. According to the codes I got when scanning. I drove about 50 miles with no cel or VSC light. Then there they were again. I rechecked the codes and cleared them again. If I start, the engine cel and then VSC comes. I am thinking that I screwed up when replacing the bank one VVT solenoid. The solenoid was a little difficult to install. And I can't find the VVT filter. Maybe it was the resistance.
  18. I had a DTC for bank1 sensor 1, and for the VVTI valve, I changed both cleared codes. The car ran great for a few days. I scanned, and I got the same codes. I forgot there was a code misfire on the #8 cylinder. I also placed the coil, and there was not a misfire. Thanks in advance
  19. Thanks for the advice it is much appreciated. Now that it has been bleed correctly. I now have power with no leaks.
  20. Thank you for the information, I knew it needed to be bled maybe this work.
  21. I finally finished replacing the rack and pinion on the 99 ls 400. Yesterday Saturday 26 Aug. My old rack was leaking, so after replacing it, there is no power steering. what are the possibilities? A bad rack or a bad power steering pump has anyone had this problem after replacing the rack and pinion? Please help, I don't hear the whining of the pump. Just remember that maybe it thought's.
  22. I have replaced the engine mounts on my 99 ls400. While replacing the rack and pinion. The access was better. Since I am working at my own pace I still have to replace the rack. Both racks have what I think are ratio marking the old one 1-2 the replacement has 1 - 1 does anyone know for sure if these are numbers for the gear ratio in the rack and pinion? Thank you in advance
  23. I have to replace the steering rack. The engine mounts are in need of replacement. Is it easier to replace the engine mounts while the rack is out?
  24. my ls 400 has no power steering above 30 mph. any idea why it doesn't work after 30 it is a 99 Lexus
  25. I know some about electricity the fuses in the relay harness both melted out. I know that load or amperage draw will cause the fuse to melt. The engine has been swapped it now has a 4.3 engine and also a 120 Amp alternator. I thinking of replacing the fan with one that draws fewer amps. I can't afford to upgrade the alternator.
