Steele...I have a brand new Supra (torsen) 3.76 LSD, PI TC and B & M tranny cooler all just sitting in my garage waiting to be installed. My acceleration still sucks but it's weird, when I re-set the ECU AND clean (re-charge) my K & N filter the car is very much faster but only for a few hours??? It literally feels like I did nothing a day later. Could I have a faulty MAF? There aren't any codes (CELs) thrown on the dash but all I hear is people with GS4XX's that can spin a little from a stand still. I have 19" wheels on in the summer and I use the OEM 16" 5-stars for the winter; I can't even spin those (unless I break torque)!!! One other thing I DO have a custom box w/2 12" subs that must weight around 80lbs. could that be my ONLY problem? I'd like to get my car straight before I install these "goodies."
Thanks,
-Nick

I have a GS400 with an intake and exhaust and still can't burn 'em from a stop even with Power mode on and Traction off. I also have 19's and two 12" subs in a custom box in the trunk though.

MPG went up a little so far. However, I did about 80 miles of highway driving on my last tank (overall drove 270 miles) roughly 16.8 MPG! Maybe I'm just driving more local/city than everyone else because I hear of GS4xx's getting as much as 18 - 22 MPG!!!

I just got my car back from the dealership because my car within the last 2 months has not been achieving normal operating temp; every once in a blue moon it will. During this low-temp scenario my idle has been running real high (1200rpm) as if the car is still in cold start-up mode - eating gas constantly! Now, with all this being said my car is NOT popping a code! The dealer scanned it and they say "...duhhh there's nothing wrong with it otherwise the car WILL pop a code." Then when I re-iterate the symptoms to them they say "yeah, something isn't right." They won't fix it because they say that if they start to just install parts it might not fix the problem.
****UPDATE****
After the dealership on Saturday I decided to bring my car to my local shop that I always use for general repairs. I told them the symptoms and they said it's most likely my thermostat. I told them to change it...I took a chance. It was the thermostat after all! The shop showed me the old thermostat and the seal was shot inside allowing the coolant to flow right through it! The car runs great now, my temp reaches normal and my idle is now normal as well! I am very happy...Maybe I should call up the dealership and tell them to take lessons from my local shop! LOL! Oh, one other thing...the dealer said that a code WILL DEFINITELY POP if the thermostat was malfunctioning because there are sensors on coolant temp/regulation; I guess they were wrong! Better gas mileage here I come!!!!

I like Smithtown Lexus a lot! Great service and prices are fair. I think oil changes are around $50 plus tax.
I HATE Massapequa Lexus! Their service advisors SUCK! I bought BRAND NEW HID headlight housings because mine were old and had the dealer install them because I did not want to scratch them or anything...especially after paying about $700 for the pair! Anyway, the dealer scratched them and charged me $240 for the install to boot! I purchased these lights on my own and the box was only opened by me to inspect them...they were 100% perfect. The service advisor tried to tell me that the lights were already scratched! That is BS. Truly BS. Then he says that he will try to have it compounded out (they were deep scratches mind you) but it will NOT be done at the dealership that THEY would have to drive my car about 5 miles from there to a body/detail shop AND they can only do it during the week! Yeah, like after screaming and arguing with the guy like I'm going to leave my car there for them to drive...I'm not stupid. I worked at a car dealership before and I see what the service techs do to these cars in the parking lot with so called "troublesome/annoying customers"! Eventhough it wasn't my fault!!! I would have settled for them just to take $100 off of the bill but they would not budge! I went home because the service manager was not in that day. I called the Service Manager the next day and he told me that he can't give me a credit and that he needs to see the car again; he didn't believe that the lights were scratched (eventhough the service advisor probably told him). They knew that I live about 45 miles away and tried to make it inconvenient for me. I even requested that I try to bring my car to a body/detail shop by me...again...no dice; they said no and that it has to be their affiliated shop! I just took that one way up the @$$! I never got any apology or credit for any of this...I just will simply NEVER go there again!!!

Good idea...I'm going to check my tire pressure and oil this weekend. Actually, I have an appointment at the Smithtown Lexus Stealership on Saturday. I need an oil change and I want them to check my car for any error codes or anything that can cause poor gas mileage. I'll let you know what I find.

Before you break it... <---that's pretty funny!!!LOL!!! I used to do this same thing when I was 10. I would take EVERYTHING apart in my parents house (in working condition) to see how it works. I'de put it back together and no more work! My mom was always *BLEEP*ed at me. Sorry, that just brought back some memories...

It's unbelievable when you throw some more highway into the mix. I'm just about empty now and I got 270 miles on this tank!!! I normally only get 220 - 240 on a tank. The other day I drove about 70 miles (all highway). My driving usually only consists of about 20% highway and 80% local driving. Have to start riding my bike around town!!! LOL!!!

Hey,
I didn't install my 3.76 LSD (torsen type) as of yet. I have that and Supra half shafts to still install. It will effect gas mileage by about 1-2 mpg from what I read. The TM's I feel gave a little bit of better response but a lot of people notice "REAL" gains when doing more engine mods such as CAI, FI, headers, exhaust Etc. These plugs burn hotter than all the others therfore making better combustion for better power/response. 18.55 mpg is great BTW! I want to get my car up to that level before I install my LSD or I will be @ the gas station every 10 minutes! LOL!

It is a small world indeed... unfortunately, my recent fill-up only yielded me a 14.6 mpg. Still 1mpg better than the previous fill up. Maybe I'll check my tire pressure and/or have my alignment checked. Tires are wearing evenly and properly but I have read somewhere that tire pressure and poor alignment can cost you 2 - 3mpg!
-
I'm gonna fill-up today as well. I'll let you know. 347 out in Selden...that's by me!

I hear that!!! The gas on LI MUST suck! However, this tank I just got around 255 miles. That's the highest I've seen in a while. I've been driving the same way to the same destinations yet I got about 30 more miles out of this tank. I'm really confused....
-
As long as I could remember I have never gotten more than 260 miles out of a tank (unless on long trips of highway driving where I would see as much as 350 miles on a tank!). Now I might get 230 no matter how lightly I drive. I thought when I had cleaned my TB (which was pretty dirty) that I would get better gas mileage...not so. I am going to bring it in for service to check on the fuel filter, TB, sensors and thermostat this weekend. BTW, where on LI do you live? Send PM if you want...
-
I will check he fuel filter then go from there. Maybe I will change out my TM plugs and drop NGK's back in. BTW I do have a real heavy sub box in the trunk but the spare tire is out. I'm just real concerned with my gas mileage because I am dropping in my 3.76 LSD soon and putting my 19"s back on again since the weather is getting nicer out.

Any suggestions???

Hello,
I noticed for the last year I have been getting really bad gas mileage. I only get around 220 - 240 miles per tank! I do mostly city driving (only about 8 miles/day highway driving). I installed Torque Master spark plugs about 4 months ago and the gas mileage "seems" to have gotten worse. Then I cleaned my K & N air filter, the MAF sensor and throttle body (and re-set the ECU) about 1 month ago... still no help. The other day I put Techron fuel system cleaner...still no help. I have about 87K on my car and it runs great! I just hear on this forum and the CL forum that members with GS4xx's are getting at least 300 miles per tank and that's with heavy driving. I don't remember when I changed the fuel filter though. Can a dirty fuel filter make this much of a drastic difference?
Thanks for the help guys,
Nick

I got rear-ended also in my GS400 last year. I used a shop in Ronkonkoma called Innovative Auto (Ronkonkoma, NY). I believe the owner's name is Bud. They did good work on my car at the time.
http://www.innovativeautobody.com
I also used a place called Auto-fix (Bohemia, NY)when I used to have my Acura Legend. The owners name is Anthony. They also do good work.
Both good places...check them out.

Lexus411 thanks for the input bro! I searched the net and couldn't find anything on LI! This is even closer than Westchester!!! Thanks every1

Thanks guys...I'll look into both of them.

I can't find any shops on Long Island...everything is regarding Mustangs and old muscle cars; it sucks!!!

Intake: (Approximate prices)
Injen - $300
K & N FIPK - $300
SRT - $500
Exhaust: (Approximate prices)
Borla - $500
HKS - $600
Tanabe - $600
L-Tuned - $600
Torque Converter: (Approximate prices)
Precision Industries - $750
RMM - $800
LSD (3.76 gears): (Approximate prices)
Supra (torsen style) - $1600
TRD unit - $1200
Get one of each category and it will reduce your 0-60 times by about .8 seconds. I'm not too sure about the prices but its kind of a ballpark range. These will get you "started."

The car runs great however even AFTER 5 minutes of warm up and 15 minutes of driving the idle in park is still at 1200RPM! Please help. I just cleaned the TB last night. I have a GS400. Thanks.
-
BOTH! AND I WILL HAVE IT... eventually. Need more $$$ though. LOL! I am having the S-AFC installed and tuned by a dyno shop. Then we'll see if that helps.
-
Thanks tlx I am going to have a reputable shop supply, install and tune the S-AFC. Before that I will remove the extension and see if the CEL goes away. If it does ...then my MAF is OK and the S-AFC and dyno tune will cure all.
My Gs400 Is Slow! Why?

Thanks for your responses. I am actually looking to buy an Apexi SAFC II very soon. It will so the same as the SRT piggyback and then some. There is a guy on Club Lexus that has only an intake and exhaust who gained around 25 hp and 48 Ft/lbs of torque all at the wheels!!! I am looking forward to doing this but I will pay extra $$$ and have a dyno shop install and tune it for maximum performance. First and foremost is my transmission mods...I'll keep you posted. ^_^
