  1. If you want a REAL sleeper and make a DRAMATIC difference...buy a Precision Industries (high stall) torque converter. You can request any stall speed (rpm) that you would like. The unit itself is $700 and a (rather mandatory) auxillary B&M tranny cooler is needed and can be purchased for around $60 bucks or so. New tranny fluid/filter and install of these items will be around another $600 but I tell you...for $1300 bucks you step on the gas and could leave a 20' mark. It is a NIGHT AND DAY difference! No more lag at all off the line; it is instantaneous power! I think PI quotes 0-60 times are reduced by .6 - .7 seconds and the 1/4 mile by almost .4 seconds assuming you can get the traction. lol Check it out...GL!
  2. Actually...performance wise I still feel that the Precision Industries Torque Converters are the BEST bang for the buck...especially on the GS4XX's! Trust me...I know. Off the line it is IMPOSSIBLE to describe the night and day difference from stock. It is around $700 bucks plus $60 for the auxillary tranny cooler (I bought a B&M supercooler). This is absolutely needed if you are going the high stall torque converter route as this item REALLY heats up the tranny fluid and extra cooling would be needed. I got mine "set" to a 2900 rpm stall. The higher the stall the more viscious the launch capabilities but more wear and tear and less drivability if it's your daily driver. The typical range that does NOT effect drivability yet still yields great performance is 2800rpm - 3200rpm stall. FYI...I think the stock torque converters are around 1800rpm stall. Sorry I didn't remark on the air intake questions at hand. I feel that they are worth it but definitely NOT if you are going to spend over $350 or so. I would NOT spend $600 on the SRT w/chip intake. I would (or rather have done it already) buy the K&N FIPK intake (reputable company) for ~ $300 bucks and buy an Apexi NEO (air fuel controller) for $250 bucks. Install it yourself and get it tuned. I have proven dyno results that ADDED 17whp and 18WTQ with JUST the addition of this A/F controller to my pre-existing K&N intake...Oh, I had a Borla rear section exhaust also at the time but that probably doesn't do much. So I gather if you would do this intake AND air fuel controller at the same time I would bet you would see 20-22whp (or ~ 25-27hp @ the crank).   3. Correct!...but only certain years; I believe it's just the '03-'06's. Also, GL trying to find a cheap (used) wood RX steering wheel (and in the color you need)...you will need that RX airbag as well. It will NOT use the same airbag as the '98-'00 GS models...different size (but the same power clips; they both are single stage airbags). The '01 GS airbags are the same size but the power clips are different as they are dual stage airbags. I looked into this and could not find a used (same color) RX air bag at all and they are around $600 new. There was a woodgrain steering wheel (with E-shift) on Ebay w/o the air bag going for around $500 bucks. So for $1100 bucks (total) I'm sure you could (or should) have your current steering wheel re-done in wood. It will probably cost around $500-$600 and then the job is done. GL!
  4. Check the little knob on the left side of the steering wheel (on the dash); it controls the light (dimmer) on the speedometer.
  5. ...well, there's an expression commonly used; "you gotta pay to play." So I propose to you a variety of 3-piece wheels such as I-Forged, HRE and Work wheels. These are top notch wheels that have beautiful finishes built specifically to your specs on a "made to order" basis, VERY lightweight and superior strength due to the materials used. However, They start at around $700/wheel. GL man with your choices. By the way there are plenty of 18, 19 and 20" lightweight wheels that are even lighter than the small stock 16 and 17" Lexus wheels! You will DEFINATELY notice a difference in performance too.
  6. I believe you might be referring to the "accent lights." They are the tiny bulbs underneath the DRL's (within the same housing). If you want to replace those you do not need any tools at all. Simply twist the connector to the unlock position and pull out of the housing. They are wedge-style bulbs. I used LED's because they last like 10X's longer. GL...hope this helps!
  7. The '93 - '95 Supra TT 3.76 LSD version is able to put down more power than the previous year units. I have the '93-'95 3.76 LSD version purchased directly from the Official Team Lexus about a year ago (Team Lexus chose this model LSD for their race GS400); this unit was their back-up and never installed. It IS A GREAT MOD and is a direct bolt-on. It is a little expensive (new from various websites is $1699)! I luckily purchased it for $1200 and it also came with new rear axles. I GREATLY suggest you buy a PI TC Precision Industries torque converter (2800-3000rpm stall) first and then buy this 3.76 LSD. If you can manage to get both at the same time...do it! The 3.76 can be sort of counterproductive "ONLY IF" you do not have any other performance mods such as a high stall torque converter, intake, exhaust or headers. A GS400 with the Supra 3.76 LSD will NOT be THAT much faster than a stock GS400. The below example illustrates what I am trying to convey (all things held constant, ie both cars have an intake and exhaust). Fastest - GS4XX with PI TC and 3.76LSD GS4XX with PI TC GS4XX with 3.76LSD (a little quicker than GS4XX stock)* Slowest - GS4XX stock *Only regarding initial acceleration. The 3.76 LSD GS4XX is MUCH MORE responsive at highway speeds than a stock GS4XX. But for around town the 3.76 LSD (ONLY) GS4XX is not that much quicker than a stock GS4XX. Sorry if this is confusing. I'm just trying to properly explain this scenario. I purchased and installed the following at the same time: PI TC (2900 stall) - $700 3.76 Supra LSD - $1200 Supra TT rear axles - Incl. with LSD B&M Tranny cooler - $60 Amsoil Trans fluid - $100 Royal Purple diff fluid - $40 The install for all these items cost me around $1100. This setup when it's all said and done cost me a little over $3200 but it made a HUGE difference! I feel VERY confident if I am around G35's, Maximas and 350 Z's; even if they too have some mods. GL! :)
  8. PI TC = Precision Industries Torque Converter. I have a 2900 stall...stock stall rpm is 1800 I believe. My launches now are awesome to put it mildly!
  9. Just to let you guys know. NY has had this gas for like 6+ years. I have a 2000 GS400 and have always maintained my ride and only manage to get 14-15 mpg. Now I see even a little less MPG because of my PI TC and 3.76 LSD combo. NY sucks, taxes and gas and poor roads; it's politically corrupt here! I want to move one day to a nicer state. You guys are lucky that your just starting to see this type of gas in your area! BTW premium as of today is around $4.03/gal...
  10. This is OLD news...very old. If you go on other forums like Club Lexus you will see that MANY have this RMM supercharger back from '01, '02 and '03. RMM discontinued this application back in 2003. So did SRT and LMS. They too had superchargers out at one time for the GS4XX. Now, you MUST find one used in order to get one or custom fit a new type of supercharger. BTW, the RMM was a Vortech supercharger that yielded 8psi with a 3" pulley. There are some guys with GS4XX's hitting 380whp+ with this setup along with 370cc+ injectors and upgraded fuel pump. GL!
  11. It depends on your application. If you want to add BIG power (supercharger/turbo) then make the rear suspension a lot softer than the front, for better launching and traction. For comfort I would make them pretty even with the front being slightly stiffer due to the extra weight of the engine. GL!
  12. I like your drop and looks real nice but IMHO I would not lower my car that low for 2 reasons. 1. Because I live in New York and a low suspension like that and your asking for trouble...potholes and wacky drivers.lol 2. The lower you make ANY car puts a lot more stress on ball joints, other suspension components and steering components. At that height these itmes will wear out in less than half the time as opposed to stock. So I did a happy medium (as far as lowering the car) because it's my daily driver. If you don't ALWAYS drive your car leave it slammed!
  13. Actually that pic above is SLAMMED! You will NOT get a drop like that unless you have Tein Flex or Tein HA coilovers. The Tein SS will come close. The Bilsteins have a similar drop to the Tein CS coilovers. 1 finger or a little less all around on 19's...
  14. Bisteins PSS coilovers are $1100-new. They are great performing coils...will not give you the lowest drop in the world but will give you more of a BMW "M" feel. I love them. Ill try to upload some pics when I get a chance. I tend to bounce back and forth from here to CL (Club Lexus). ;)
  15. I currently have 19's but have 245/35/19 all around. I have Bilstein PSS coilovers which the spring rate and dampening is NOT adjustable like the Teins. The spring rate and dampening on my setup is progressive meaning the lower you adjust the coils the harder they become. The spring/dampening rate at the lowest drop is a little tighter than your SS's. Now on to your question...If the coils are brand new get an alignment done and then make sure you give time (3-4 weeks) for them to settle and then do a second alignment! If alignment is off you can get the bouncing that you may be experiencing. Try that first...also make sure that your tires/wheels are balanced. GL! ;)

  17. Nothing to be alarmed about. Simply disconnect the negative battery terminal OR pull the ECU-b fuse out for approx. 15-30 minutes. You need to reset your ECU and allow it to "re-learn" the new CFM of air flowing into the throttle body. Re-connect and start the car. Let it run for 5 minutes...it will go through a "learning" process. Then you should be good to go. If that does not solve your problem, MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE YOUR MAF (MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR) POINTING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION!!! The inlet area should be facing towards your air intake filter when you insert it into the intake tube. GL! -Nick
  18. Do you happen to have the part # for this plasitc piece? Mine is coming off as well. Was it hard to replace? No, it was not hard to replace at all...there is a series of screws along the bottom edge of the inside of the door. As far as the part #, I do not have it handy. Just contact Luis or Gordon from Carson Toyota/Lexus and they will give you the right part.GL!

  20. Buy a new one from Carson Toyota/Lexus for $50 +/-. I had the same problem with my car and it's doing it again! But in my situation my lower panel is actually warped outward slightly leaving a 1/8" lip (not completely flush with the rear door) so whenever I bring my car to the carwash it rips that corner with the brushes. I have to replace this panel. You are correct that no glue will help...it must be replaced. GL!
  21. Get some coilovers...I just picked up a set of Bilstein PSS used; they are not installed as of yet and heard that the ride quality is great. The Tein CS coilovers are nice too.
