  1. Thank you for your help. I just finished replacing both bulbs.
  2. Can anyone tell me what the procedure is, and what is required to replace one of the brake light bulbs on the 3rd brake light (the light inside the car at the bottom rear glass)? My owners manual does not explain how to change any bulbs, just bulb location. One side is not working, I assume the bulb is expired. Should I replace both? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Is there an aftermarket battery (in my area) that fits and hold up as well as a Lexus battery? Thanks in advance.
  4. I want to say thanks to all who posted to this question. I have yet to make up my mind on whether I'll instruct them to take a light surface cut on the front rotors, or just load the pads and install the applicable kits and hope for the best. I am concerned about the indie being knowledgeable about lubrication points as well as torque specs. Can anyone recommend a competent independant in the Orlando area? I'm sincerely grateful for all the input. Multiple heads are better than one!
  5. My wife's 2000 LS400 squeaks pretty loud when braking. Lexus wants to replace the front pads, shim kit, fitment kit, and resurface the rotors ($280). I passed. I purchased the parts from Lexus and will have an independant shop install them. There is no pulsation from the brake pedal when I'm braking. Should I have the rotors resurfaced? I'd appreciate any knowledgeable input.
  6. Everything is relative towards the condition of the car. If this car has good service records. No accidents, rust, paintwork, clean interior with no cuts, tears, non smoker, good tires. If it originated and came from the sunbelt. I'd be inclined to say $22,000 would be OK provided the lighting interior and exterior work.
  7. You hit my main contention on the head. In theory, if the valves were adjusted properly during the assembly there would not be an issue. I was not the owner when this repair was done. I'm contacting the service manager in the morning and pleading my case. I'm hopeful I can reason with him. If this effort fails, I'm calling Lexus customer service. I will post the results. ← I promised to post an update on the outcome of the valve adjustment controversy. Lexus and I split the cost of the valve adjustment (my end was $802.00). I really appreciate the consideration I was given by the company. I feel comfortable knowing Lexus truly cares about my ownership experience. They have no idea how loyal I am.
  8. Could someone forward name of company and phone #? Thanks in advance.

  10. Thanks for your input. The car runs, idles, and performs perfectly. With this in mind, I don't feel there is any damage. If an engine gets damaged it can be successfully repaired. Based on what I know, I'd have to say it is and was an "improper assembly" issue. I do have a printout from the dealer on the service history. There is no operation explanation just " op codes " #110011 and #161011 and the descriptions are cyl hd subassy (w/o all vlv) and water pump assy &/or gskt. Strange a water pump needs replacement at that mileage. Also, there was a 5K service done, a certified pre-owned PDI, an alignment, and multiple "unknowns". Can anyone translate dealer service option codes?
  11. My wife's 2000 with 75,000 is at the dealer being serviced. I asked them to listen to the engine for a ticking noise. They explained that it needs a valve adjustment ( very expensive due to labor - camshafts have to be removed ). It is my understanding that this generation LS400 has hydraulic valves and does not require valve adjustments as part of the preventive maintenance. The service history indicates that the cylinder heads were off the car at 49K by Lexus (why I do not know). Could they have been not adjusted properly on the reinstall? I'm out of the powertrain warranty by miles but not time. This car is clean with no accidents and 80% of the services were done by Lexus. I'm generating a $1,600 bill between the service and repairs covered by an extended warranty. I asked the service advisor to ask the service manager to goodwill the valve adjustment. 2 days later he told me no. Let me mention that the car runs great. It's the noise that bothers me. I plan to call the service manager on Monday to discuss this further. Any ideas or suggestions?
  12. First I would try inspecting the tires visually and with my hands. It would be very easy to do if the car was on a lift and you could address things form underneath. High performance tires can develop flat spots if the tires sit for a long time and the rubber compound is soft enough. Once the tires heat up things will improve. Also I would find a flat level section of road. Stop the car and then let your foot off the brake and let the car roll. I think tire technicians should be perceptive as to the condition of the tires they are trying to balance. It may be worth it to appropriate a half an hour to an hour's worth of diagnostic time to know where you stand.
  13. The wheels could be put on a tire balancing machine and spun. You could visually see any major variation if you focused on one side of the rim. Tire separations are more common than most people know. The abnormality it creates when the separation occurs can produce a rhythmic low speed shake. Some cases the separation will cause the car to "pull" to one side. Using your hands you can rub the tread surfaces of the tires all the way around to look for a "bulge" or "bump". A word of caution: If the separation is severe enough the stell belt can be exposed causing you to cut your hands. What speed(s) is the wobble occurring?
  14. If the rims are not bent, it sounds like at least one tire has a separation. This occurs when one of the steel belts separate out of alignment from the rest. I run 29 PSI do to the fact that the car travels on a lot of brick roads. Dunlops on a 2000 LS400.
  15. Ticking noise only. 75,100 miles. Yes it is a 2000 model.
  16. I brought my wife's car to the local dealer for service. They explained that the valves need to be adjusted. The car runs great. I thought the valve lifters on this car are hydraulic. Therefore, they adjust themselves. They said the camshafts have to be removed to do this. Very expensive. I feel there is a problem somewhere causing this. Any ideas?
  17. Can anyone tell me in detail what is done at this service interval for a 2000 LS400?
  18. Before I purchased the car I substantiated that all the services were performed at the lexus dealer in Tampa with the exception of the 50k and the 60k. The oil was changed at 65k and 70k at a quick oil change center (they used Mobil 1 10w30) called Shiner's One Stop.
  19. My wife's car (2000 LS400) just turned 75k. I'm going to bring the car to the local dealer (Orlando) due to the fact that I'm not aware of any reputable independents in my area. Has anyone had any service experience with this store? The 60k was not done. Should I do the 60k or the 75k? Could someone advise me on what is a fair price for the service? Also, what would be considered acceptable fuel mileage. Any input on these matters would be greatly appreciated
  20. Thanks for your your help. They are working fine now.
  21. Can anyone tell me what would cause the mirrors to stop lowering in reverse? I drive the car to church on Sundays (my wife's car) and noticed it. My owners manual is misplaced. I assume they need to be programmed. I don't understand why they would stop doing this. Any help on this matter is appreciated.
