  1. Ialready put everything back together. Econ, by "left-hand" did you mean the driver's side of the car? I am also not sure which is the quarter trim pannel. Sorry . I do thank you for all of you help though.
  2. So I took the back seat apart ( ). I now "KNOW" that the stoplight wiring does not go to that box in the trunk. I still can't figure out why there is no electricity to the bulbs. I'm hoping that someone can look at the schematic that Econ posted and tell me where the fault would have to be in order to cut off only the high mounted stoplight bulbs. Like I said earlier, only the high mounted lights don't work, all the others work perfectly. Thanks again guys!
  3. Hey Texas, my car has a box in the same area that you described, but I'm pretty sure that it is for the factory car-phone (I might be wrong). I don't think, however, that the wires from my stoplight lead to this box.
  4. WOW! Thanks for the schematic Econ. I'm having trouble figuring this one out. I don't want to tear the car appart so I am sticking to the simplest solution (which most of the time resolves the issue). Someone must have some idea of what may be happening here. Please let me know! :(
  5. I can't seem to figure outh why there is no electricity going to the high mounted stoplight on my 1991 LS400. I recently noticed that a bulb was out. I went to the dealer and bought two new bulbs for it and they do not work. I put in the old bulb which "WAS" working and it didn't light either. I then checked if there was any electricity going to the wires when I pressed the brake pedal and there wasn't. I checked the brake fuse and it seems to be fine. All of the other lights work fine. Does anyone have any ideas?
  6. Do you know of any pics on this? Will the dealer sell me the replacement bulbs?
  7. My car did the same thing. I was returning home from school one day and all of a sudden the car became verry sluggish and shook alot on acceleration. For some strange reason the car seemed fine on idle but as soon as I wanted to accelerate, it shook and had no power. I thought that the transmission was going to be the problem but after hours of messing with the engine the daylight faded into dark. I then noticed a spark coming from one of the plug wires. I had recently taken the car to a mechanic to change spark plugs/wires/etc. He did not use original Lexus parts. One of the wires (which provided power to 4 of the cylinders) was misfiring onto the engine block. I bought original wires and plugs from my dealer and have not had a problem since (14+ months). You may want to check this out!
  8. The leather on my steering wheel is turning into dust. Also on the shift knob. I tried the link on replacing the leather but it does not work. I was hoping someone could re-post updated info or provide information if you have repaired this yourself. Thanks!
  9. I searched the forum and could not find any information on repairing the 1991 LS400 stereo backlighting. Does anyone know if Mikado will sell repair kits for the headunit as well as the climate control system? If so, how much $$$? Thanks!
  10. The speaker I used was a Cerwin-Vega HED-8. This speaker does not come with the plastic piece that that is used to mount the speaker in the tutorial. You need to use the black molded plastic ring that is on the original speaker. I thought that it was glued on so I broke it when I was tryint to remove it. It is actually held together by four small screws. You need to remove the foam that is glued to the bottom of it to uncover the screws. If you have any problems, send me a PM.
  11. Lexls, great info! I just found out about this forum yesterday and I already did the woofer adaptation that you recommended. It worked like a charm. Thanks a lot! I had to use a different woofer because the Kicker model has been discontinued. I used a CerwinVega. Jeez, I had forgotten what a difference that woofer made. Thanks again!
  12. How does one go about getting these new capacitors? If the LCD is changed and the capacitors arent, will the problem re-manifest itself?
  13. Nice! Thanks a lot for your input.
  14. I don't think that the 20w-50 was used more than once. And I think it was in the engine for about 2.5 months (2,700 miles). Do you think this could hve caused any damage. I have not noticed any problems with the car. It runs great.
  15. Hmm, after searching around on this forum it seems that the general concensus is Mobi 1 synthetic. I hope there is nothing wrong with any of my seals. Since the car has such a high mileage, I think that I will probably go with 10w-30. I know that the following oils have been used in the car before: Castrol GTX 10w-30 Castrol GTX 20w-50 Castrol Syntec 10w-40 Do you guys see a problem with any of this? Your input would be greatly appreciated as I hope to change the oil tomorrow morning.
  16. Hey guys, I have a 1991 LS400 with 175,000 miles on it. I want to do my own oil changes but am not sure which oil to use. I know what Lexus recommends but I believe that mileage is a factor in the decision as well. I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on this matter.
