I am looking for the lower control arm bushings for my 92 SC400. There are one type listed online made by Ast that sell for $125 for each side. Considering they are just a rubber/composite bushing, I thought that was quite steep. Anyone know of cheaper ones? Also is this a common problem? and are the bushings easy to get out? Thanks for any help.
bess, Here are some bushing at a reasonable price. Go through all posts for vital information on removing replacing.

I have driven both, and while the sc300 with the manual is fun... the bellow and punch of the V8 cannot be matched. The V8 in the SC is the same as the LS400, which Toyota spent hundreds of millions developing. I know for sure that if reliability is a concern, the first generation 92-94 is the most reliable. Also for the 94 and maybe the 93, you get better safety features, and larger brakes. The late models 98-00 have more punch and VVT-i, but in my opinion the addition of the small front grille and metal rimmed taillights kind of takes away from the timeless form. I bout mine two years ago for $7500 with 62000 miles, so there old and good ones are out there.
Sc300/400 are reliable period, if taken care of properly by owners. The brakes are larger on the sc400 compare to the Sc300. SC400 came stock with 16x7.5-inch alloy wheels and the SC300 came stock with 15x6.5-inch turbine-cut alloy wheels, but the Sc400 '99 & up have larger brakes compared to other Sc400 models.

VigorousBrando, Consumer Reports 2008 ( in the link below) rate Kirkland & Everstart Best Buy...I have a Kirkland Group35 battery (date May 04) in my Sc 400. I also own a Battery floater for winter months when the Sc sits in the garage. Tip when buying a battery look for one that's no more than six months old. Batteries will have a shipping code on the case.

chrs5060, Yes on both, although the cleared headlights don't look good on the Sc IMO. Clear side markers can be home made.

It could be blown (rear) speakers, especially if they are still stock. I had this problem and thought is was my amp. I would check/test the rear speakers with a cheap 2inch speaker you can buy at wal-mart. Take the trunk lining down on the passenger side/Cd Unit and locate/disconnect the +/- connections attach the working speaker to the +/- clips and turn on the radio and prey for sound. Here was my DIY
First half to process:
