what cel code were you getting. i recently changed the coil. i had p0302 - misfire in cylinder 2. The symptoms were 1. flashing track light along with cel. 2. No 3rd gear engagement can't go over 45 mph 3. idle low rpm vehicle vibration. after researching this forum i narrowed it to either - sparkplug, fuel injector or coil. once i removed the sparkplug i noticed traces of fuel indicating that injector is good. the sparkplug gap also looked good. but still i replaced with a new sparkplug. same issues like before that led to coil replacement. luckily coil #2 is in the front left. have to disconnect the battery to clear the codes. hope this helps.

Tom what causes the ocv fail with such low miles. is there any preventative maintenance to avoid this.

Camlex: in the other post you mentioned that you have to strip the vacuum line in one end. is that not the fix.

exactly. it is the starter contact that gets worn out/corroded due to high electrical impedence. the wood and mallet basically clears up the corrosion temporarily. usually it is the contact towards the motor that gets corroded faster. you can get step by step diy instruction from toyotanation forum.

i had a camry which did the same thing. once in a while i hear the click (which is the relay open/close) but won't start. it was the starter contacts that went bad. if you are hands on you can put the new contacts yourself. any toyota dealership carries those contacts for the denso starters.

Did you try ebay for a replacement. or else you can try any stereo repair shop to fix your factory original amp.

The search function is fine but it would be nice to have a separate DIY section addressing the follows. how to locate and remove/install and cleaning process (pictures speak a thousand words) with step by step instructions. 1. 02 sensors 2. MAF sensors 3. TB 4. IACV 5. EGR canister 6. PCV 7. air flow meter I still have the old coil pack. is it repairable. i would like to keep a spare handy. Any suggestions.

may be you should read the tranny thread and feel comfortable with this car. i was in your position and decided to scale back and purchased a pre 2001 model with completed major service. i am quite happy with my coach edition leather with excellent nakamichi audio and looking towards 07 model after few years. Also you have to set aside $$ for the major service 90k service.

Thanks smooth1. i tried lubricating both the cable and throttle still the problem persists intermittently. When i tried by hand i did not notice any stickiness. while fishing the cable it goes to a black cover before it goes to the cabin. When i opened the cover i noticed couple of pulluys along which the cable moves on. it happens intermittently. whenever i step off the pedal and try to accelerate again i notice the stickiness. A slight thump on the pedal releases it. any help would be appreciated. is there a location i can find the 99 es service manual.

recently purchased a 99 es 300 coach edition with nakamichi audio from a dealer. silky smooth engine. i observed the following issues and hope some forum member could point me to correct links or DIY info. 1. nakamichi audio is awesome. however when i bump up the volume i hear a jarring noise. i suspect the woofer is going bad. do i need to replace the entire woofer or any quick fix. if i have to replace is there any online reputed location. 2. how do i know whether the previous owner used synthetic or regular oil. i prefer to use regular oil. 3. occasionally i am unable to depress the accelerator when i am at stop signal. it seems stuck and i have to press hard to unstuck or release. is this a common issue. 4. it came with only 1 key (black) which i can use for all -trunk, ignition, glove and door. Does the original remote comes with key or remote only. i would like to fill the void. i saw on ebay for remote with uncut key. I am planning to get one for spare and where do you get the key cut. i saw programming instructions on this site. if i try to program the aftermarket (ebay) key and remote will it mess up my original master key. what are the functions on the original remote. 5. the steering wheel has some chips due to heat. is it easy to replace the steering wheel. any assistance is appreciated.

just curious. why you aren't happy with the NAK option. I believe tha option costs over 1k when bought new.I am also in the market for a lex with NAK and it is somewhat hard to find. thx

Hello, I am in the process of shopping a 01 es 300 coach edition. So far i am unable to find a coach edtion car with nakamichi stereo. While searching the web and lexus HQ it was listed as an option for the year 2001. Has anyone owned or seen a 01 car with this option. Very much appreciate your feedback.
