  1. As far as I know. Aftermarket ones can run about $75 for the front and $110 for the rears....well the last time i checked.
  2. I agree, if it's not the rotors, then you should replace the wheel bearings next.
  3. What about the rave of Royal Purple Synthetic Oil? Must be some magic potion because on the back of each bottle it says: 1. "...proven to increase horsepower and torque" 2. "keeps engines clean" Is this just snake oil or is it really a high quality oil? Is it good for our SC300s or is this overkill?
  4. I knew some of you knowledgeable guys would chime in. I'll give it a shot. Thanks a bunch.
  5. Hey gang, I will soon be replacing my brakes and I was told that I can save some money and use Toyota brake pads with my stock setup. If this is true, I will be going this route. If this true, which Toyota pads fit stock calipers for a 1993 SC300? Even if it fits, will it work properly? Thanks.
  6. I would say 2.25" custom piping if you're running a stock setup. I have another car with a stock 4.6L V8 and I definitely lost my low end torque by going with a 2.5" catback.
  7. I hate to burst the ego bubble, but its a re-badged Toyota that youre driving. ← Sorry, let me rephrase that line. "We should respect our cars for what it really is - a Lexus SC300/400, not a Toyota Supra wannabe." Having a nice day! ;)
  8. Lame. We should respect our cars for what it really is - a Lexus, not a Supra wannabe. That pic would be a good definitiion of "rice". In other words, that huge wing (shopping cart handle -hehe) falsifies performance 100 fold. -yuck! ...well, that's my opinion anyway ;) ...on the other hand,. nice photochop!
  9. Did you use genuine parts or aftermarket? How much did your set up cost?
  10. DAILY DRIVERS: I've heard alot of people losing their low end torque (via SOTP dyno) just by adding a higher flowing catback system with their stock engine and were very disappointed. Just beware that although advertisements claim HP gains, that only occurs during wot. This was an expensive learning experience for me. I've changed the exhaust with new catback systems on 2 of my old cars with stock engines and lost my low end power. I hated it so much I put the stock exhaust set-up back on.
  11. HI! I'm planning to replace all four pads and rotors in a few months. I think I have about 4-5K miles left on the pads and the rotors are warped. My mechanic told me that's its alot cheaper to buy a performance setup as opposed to regular aftermarket/ genuine parts. I was told not only will they be cheaper, they will last longer and perform much, much better. This is a daily driver and I have no intentions to race this thing. Is this true? Best bang for the buck? Any recommendations on what I should do? Pro's vs Con's? Thanks. -Mike
  12. What a difference! Just got the car back from a Lexus independent svc shop and had the clutch master cylinder replaced (spent $170). Now I know how a Lexus clutch suppose to feel like (just got the car 3 months ago). The shifts are more firm and my SOTP dyno tells me it's a more powerful car. :D
  13. That would be great if anyone has some info how to do it safely and correctly.
  14. I don't have a problem putting it in 2,3,...5, but I do have a problem putting it in 1st. The only way to accomplish first gear is if I slide the shifter to second, and then forward to first. Putting it straight to first gear will not work unless some kind of grinding occurs. Spoke to the mechanics about the problem and they said the transmission is old needs to be rebuilt/ replaced. They said if what I am doing (putting it to second gear before putting it in first gear) works, then I'll be fine.
  15. Thanks for the input. The car was taken to the shop and the master cylinder was ordered. I hope they do the installation procedure correctly as you guys described. I'll see what happens next.
  16. HI! Newbee here. My clutch seems to slip only when I go up hill. It makes contact and barely catches but it does not do this all the time. My most annoying time was when I was stopped on an on ramp entering the freeway (up hill) waiting for the light t turn green. When I released the clutch to go, the clutch slipped again and did not catch all the way. I looked at the odo and it was already at 4000 rpm with the speedo only at 10 mph. ...and yes, my foot was already off the clutch pedal. The person behind me already started honking. I decided to try throwing it in second and the same thing happened again. At this time I smelled the clutch burning. :cries: I pulled over to the side of the freeway (flat ground) and waited a few minutes. The car worked fine from there. I just had the clutch replaced like 3 months ago so I don't think it's the clutch. I took it back to the place where I had it replaced and they could not replicate the problem. They said the reason for the problem was the 'master cylinder' that operates the clutch was leaking. hmmmm I have no recollection of any fuild drips on my driveway. What do you guys think?
  17. HI! I have a 1993 Lexus SC300 and I was just wondering if it is normal for the fog lights to illuminate only when I use the signal lights (this happens only when headlights are on). I find this very strange. hmmmmmmm
