  3. Just a little info to digest.... I have a friend whom is currently a certified mechanic at the Mercedes Dealership...He also has years of experience at the Porchse Dealership too... Very knowledgeable... He tells me the newer Mercedes, especially the AMG's are prone to break down and trouble...Even though the car will be under warrenty you may find it spending alot of time at the Dealership for repairs... The newer Lexus's are designed and built much better for the long haul... Something to consider.... Infact my friend says there is a newly purchased SL500 parked outside the dealership everyday with a sign on every window saying "I bought a lemon"...The owner of that car has been to dealership 10 times for repairs in four months after purchasing the new car...He is filing a lawsuit again Mercedes and just leaves the car there every day...The dealership is going crazy over this according to my friend and losing business....
  4. The never ending thread... I can always count on a few email notifications every day just from this thread alone....Funny... Ok combustion..... Horse Power
  5. Did someone say PARTY!!!!! I'll bring the beer....
  6. Dudes, gas prices are on the rise too...At 9mpg I may let the Surby sit and collect dust....Bust out the mountain bike or something instead to get around..... Anna Nicole Smith
  7. Yes the biggest problem with buying an older lexus is making sure all the maintenance service has been done....Older SC/s and LS's generally will not have huge maintenance issues if maintened properly...You may find suspension parts worn, dash lights and LCD's failing, brake work...Timing belts, etc.. You should not experience major engine and or tranny problems as both are designed to last for a very long time.. Ho So again, if you can learn how to do the routine maintenance yourself then you will save thousands.... Most lexus owners don't like to get greasy...So my suggestion is find a resonalbly priced mechanic that knows his imports... Someone you can trust..Good luck...

  9. Use genuin OEM brake pads, and use the Lexus anti brake squeek lube and it will never squeek again....
  10. 9mpg even on a Suburban sounds kinda low....The Ford Excursion and V10 dually's I think get around 10mpg.... !Removed!
  11. I hear you on buying a used car to get the best bang for the buck...With that being said the Escalade and Lincoln have been around for a few years....The Denali is not to shabby either...All three of those cars are very nice on the inside, the engines are all solid, but with high mileage you will get the rattles, play in the steering wheel, squeeks and stuff will break....Typical in high powered American built cars...Too bad... I was very impressed with the Escalade, got to be careful you don't fall asleep driving that truck... The H2 hummers seem to be popular these days...Don't understand why, big consel, and a Chevy drivetrain, and no better then a Tahoe in my opinion....
  12. Mini vans aren't my cup of tea either...... Have you considered a Lincoln Navagator and or Cadilac Escalade? If your talking new LandCruiser the price ranges are almost comparible with those two......
  13. Cam lift ps - 9 mpg sounds like a surburban to me...... Those huge SUV's can suck gas.....

  15. Grab your manual and find the fuses that run the A/C and dash...Change the fuses and if it happens again you have a bad ground wire somewhere....
  16. Make sure the car is in the park position...Shift it down then back to park then try turning the key... If that doesn't work disconnect the battery for a few minutes to re-set the factory alarm setting then try turning the key again...If that fails then lube your ignition with WD40 and work on it some more...Good luck
  17. I got a 1993 Toyota LandCruiser that I putt around with and it has the AWD full time emblem in the back... I always called it just AWD.... For years and years... I do find that AWD trucks really make for a smoother ride in comparison to 2WD trucks....New tires help too..
  18. Here's a good website that explains it: http://www.4x4abc.com/4WD101/awd.html Thanks, very interesting...Didn't know there were so many variations....
  19. You state AWD is not the same as Full Time four wheel drive....Wondering what are the differences between the two...Please explain???????? Also, Chevy Surburbans are just very big trucks, so are the Ford Excursion...Both are great for seating lots of people but are not nearly as reliable as lets say the Toyota LandCruiser...The American engines are good to go in both trucks (Vortec especially). Everything else may fail in it's due time...You will get rattles, pumps in the tranny, worn parts, etc.....While as the LandCruiser will just keep going and not deteriorate as quickly.... My family exchanged a new Chevy Tahoe (2005) with 65,000 miles for a 1998 4.7L Toyota Landcruiser with 97,000 miles....Let's just say the two cars are night and day and this family has no regrets.....Paid $50,000 for the New Tahoe and just $11,500 for the Land Cruiser.... The Land Cruiser was to be a second car but after driving it, it quickly became the primary car....The Tahoe immediately went up for sale.... Simply said the older Cruiser just rides smoother, has less rattles and noises, and feels like a more stable ride.... End of story...
