  1. Sorry, the sales/F & I department makes the most money for ANY car dealership. I've work for many dealers over the last 20 years, and believe me the service department makes far less that the sales depatrment does. You sell 1 LS460L at sticker price, the dealer made $9200 profit on 1 car. Sell 1 extended warranty contract=$500-$1500 profit. Sell the car loan at a higher rate than what you really qualified for, they come back with a 7% rate, when you really qualified for a 6% rate=$1000 profit. That's about $11,700 profit without the holdback the owner gets! On 1 car! Service departments can't come close to those numbers.

  2. I have to disagree, no aftermarket parts for Lexus or Toyota are better than OEM. Maybe for domestic car lines. I have worked at a Lexus dealer for over 13 years and have seen aftermarket everything and it looks, works, and is worse thatn OEM. From bulbs to starters and sparkplugs, wires, etc,. OEM is the best, for Lexus/Toyota.

  3. •CD-R or CD-RW playback may not be possible in some instances, depending

on the characteristics of the disc. ----This means the thickness of the burned cd can vary from a standard compact disc, it may get jammed in the changer. I've noticed the cheap cd-r's are way too thick and cause all types of problems. Buy quality cd-r blanks and you shouldn't have preoblems with the changer getting jammed.

  4. The nav is self contained no extra parts? Where do you get this? It looks like you powered up the head unit and played a DVD. What about the nav ecu in the glove box? and the GPS antenna? Wire harness from the nav Ecu to the stereo amplifier and nav display? Are you including these for that price? It's not a drop in unit. There's a lot of things missing to make it work.

  6. If you don't have access to a datalist scantool, or don't want to pay for a diagnosis. Take the plug, and coil for another cylinder and swap them with #5. Check the resistance of the #5 wire. See if your misfire moves another cylinder. I have seen many porous heads leaking coolant around the plug #5 shorting it to ground. I have seen some bad coils also, they fire 2 cylinders each and one side fires but the other doesn't. Hopefully you don't have a porous head, since you'll have to replace it to fix the problem.

  7. No, you'll need a scantool that is high end. Toyota/Lexus, OTC, Snap-On types will have a reset function that only resets the trans side of the engine/trans ecu. A generic code reader/clearer won't do the job. Most dealers will reset it for you if that all you need done. It takes about 1-2 minutes.

  8. After the trans is replaced, the engine ecu must be reset using a scantool. Disconnecting the batttery will not erase the learned shift values completely, even if you unhook the battery for a week, it will not reset completely. A scan tool must be used to actually reset the values to begin relearning the new trans clearance and shift characteristics. Conservative driving habits with premium fuel will relearn within 400 miles. Regular fuel will take longer and actually increase the time delay between each upshift due to lack of the engine ecu's capability to use it's full range of ignition advance from the cheap gas. I know this for a fact as I've replaced at least 90 of these transaxles.

  9. When the knock sensors were replaced, was the ground harness by the pcv hose and behing the intake bolted back on? The one behing the intake near the engine removal hook is easy to leave unbolted and will cause hard shifting from the trans. The one by the pcv hose should be 2 wires held on by a 12mm nut on the side of the intake. The one behind the intake is a 2 wire held on by a 1omm bolt. Check these first.

  10. Here's the instructions for a 1995 model.Still the same procedure. You don't have to remove the abs/trac motors. A good set of 17mm wrenches should get around them to get the pressure hose off. I like to put the wrench on the line, by the lower radiator hose and use a long prybar against the subframe to break the line loose, if you can't get it off from the aircleaner area. Use a chisel and hammer and take off the control valve off the rack and pinion first to drain the system and clean the solenoid screen. here's the pdf
